  1. In retrospect, Apple Paltrow is downright mundane.
  2. No one knows who Gertrude Stein is. Fucking everybody knows who Harley Quinn is.
  3. Watching CHAPPiE. Holy shit the writing is terrible. Just head-scratchingly awful. But it looks great so far. This seems to be Blomkamp's MO.
  4. FWIW M-1 Facebook page is saying that Fedor is returning to MMA.
  5. I've established a real solid lock on last.
  6. So what kind of screen time does Byung-Hun Lee get? I love that guy.
  7. Not-so-deep thought: I like that Earl Sweatshirt uses a lot of alliteration, assonance, and consonance, rather than always relying on end-rhyme. I don't know if this is fairly specific to him or if more contemporary rappers do the same, but it detracts from the sometimes repetitive nature of rap rhymes.
  8. So, I have been listening to all of the album club picks--I just haven't been able to work up any meaningful responses. The last four choices have all been outside my wheelhouse, so I've been listening to them on-and-off and trying to formulate something.
  9. Lars von Trier's EUROPA comes to mind. I also recently watched PLAYTIME, which didn't do much for me as a comedy, but was sure something to look at.
  10. When the leotards come off: at home with Mexican wrestlers Not even sure which is the best picture. This one is pretty great:
  11. So I live in the top floor of a two-story house. We've had new downstairs neighbours for the last few months, and they're inconsiderate as hell. They've filled the backyard with their stuff, so my wife and I basically can't use it. They smoke pot in their bedroom, which is right below our bedroom, which means that our bedroom stinks all the time. I've got no moral/legal problem with pot at all, but I don't smoke and it stinks. My wife works at a bank, and doesn't need her wardrobe smelling like that. We've asked them to smoke anywhere else in the house, but apparently that's too big of an ask (the ask is also awkward given that they're 10-15 years older than us). Finally, we share the basement, which is where the laundry machines are. They leave their cat down there. Their cat hisses, spits, and slashes at me every time I go down. It's infuriating. None of this shit is breaking any rules (even the pot is legal); it's just fucking rude.
  12. Yeah, half my FB friends rainbowed their profile picks, and they're Canadian, where marriage equality has been the law of the land for a while now. It's a showing of support and celebration, not a colonization of the victory.
  13. EDIT: sorry, somehow ended up in the wrong thread.
  14. I'm watching ZATOICHI'S REVENGE. It's pretty great, even if it's the same formula as all the other ones. The supporting cast of characters is really fun. Zatoichi could occasionally use a foe capable of putting up a fight, though.
  15. You know, I'm no theologian, but I have a feeling that Jesus wouldn't be big on dudes beating the shit out of each other in a cage as a way of making a living. Yoel Romero, your reading of the Bible confuses me.
  16. I like The Elementary Particles a lot, actually--it's the first Houellebecq I've read, and now I've read all of his stuff. That doesn't mean he's my favourite author, by any means, but he's an effective provocateur, and there's so much cynicism and irony in his work that I think it's hard to dismiss him as a misogynist (as some have). I disagree with the (standard) claim that he's a nihilist. The Elementary Particles, and most of his books up until The Map and the Territory, is about how capitalism has colonized sex and the body to such an extent that love is increasingly impossible. Houellebecq is a moralist disguised as a misanthrope.
  17. Started watching the E-Space trilogy. The scene of K9 getting his head knocked off will haunt my dreams. Still, it was K9 who piloted the TARDIS into an alternate universe. Bad dog. I'd like to give Jago & Litefoot a listen. I realize I could start at the start, but if anyone thinks there's a standout episode to start with, let me know.
  18. He also announced his retirement show. Hopefully they can put together a decent match with which to send him off.
  19. Sorry 'bout the oversight. Missed it in the deluge of Dragon Blade.
  20. Denis Villeneuve's new film. I'm becoming a fan of Emily Blunt.
  21. I think Tajiri's leaving, too, or at least becoming a part timer. They're still probably in better shape than All Japan.
  22. It's probably all just problem solving, haven't y'all played Ico & Shadow of the Colossus?
