  1. The Plot Against America was really good, as you mentioned those phone call scenes with Bess and Selden were harrowing and both Zoe Kazan and the kid who played Selden deserve awards for them.
  2. He was in long tights and boots for the Tommy Dreamer kicks out of the splash angle.
  3. Did Snuka ever go back to wrestling barefoot after he switched to the long tights? I wonder if he made the switch to cover up knee and/or ankle braces.
  4. They changed it to a flag that is basically the First National Flag of the a Confederacy so they really shouldn’t be getting props. They had a “compromise” flag for a few years but it switched to the current flag after a Republican governor allowed a heavily weighted referendum on the matter. Also the state of Mississippi still has the Confederate Battle Flag as part of their state flag.
  5. For years the WWF had three of the best ring announcers of all time with Howard Finkel on MSG Network, Joe McHugh on Championship Wrestling and Gary Michael Cappetta on All-Star Wrestling.
  6. How much of a fight was it between the groom and the brides parents to get this to happen? I'm assuming he promised them a grandkid asap! I can see the brides dad not wanting to soil the banquet hall from Johnny Sac's daughters wedding with in his words "some friggin wrestling guy." Also if you were at the wedding this would be fun for the first three bridesmaids and groomsmen, after that it gets more and more annoying since you're starving after sitting through an endless wedding mass you pre-gamed to hard for.
  7. Is it just me(half Sicilian) but these English dudes trying to play Italian-Americans is just wrong and always comes off as a caricature.
  8. It's possible that NBC is going after one of the other NFL tv packages, so they could be bringing in Brees for one of those.
  9. Looking at the summer of 1988 here's who I think would have been in a Brawl for All, these guys seem to fit the same kind of mold as who was in the 1998 BFA. B. Brian Blair - High School Wrestling Champ. Bad News Brown - I can see Vince and Pat thinking the BFA is a way to build him up for Savage and Hogan. Bam Bam Bigelow - pretty much the same idea as Bad News, they'd put them on opposite sides of the bracket. Davey Boy Smith - Bulldogs are winding down their run and is peer pressured by Dynamite Kid to be in it. Don Muraco - going nowhere and looking for the extra $. Dynamite Kid - the JBL of this tourney. Greg Valentine - see Don Muraco. Haku - the odds on favorite with the boys in the back. Hercules - gets asked because they need more names to be in the tourney. Jim Neidhart - Bret Hart passes because he sees that it's a dumb idea but The Anvil jumps at the chance to get in Vince's good graces after the whole head butting a flight attendant incident. Ray Rougeau - can't remember if this was when he was injured but he was the fighter of the family. The the following to fill out the bracket. High Chief Afi - he was still popping up from time to time. Jos LeDuc - worked a tv taping that June with Frenchy Martin as his manager. Paul Roma - supposedly could throw hands. Pete Doherty - why not. Steve Lombardi - see Pete Doherty.
  10. Bad News had really bad knees so the chances of someone like Smash jacking one of them up during a take down is plausible. Also the super jacked guys like Muraco, Herc and Reed would be so gassed after 30 seconds whoever they fought could use the Homer Simpson method and push them over for the KO win.
  11. I don’t think Big Daddy squashing wrestlers with Irish names would fly in the US.
  12. I always thought that movie was ripe for a sequel set 25ish years after the band broke up. There’s competing Wonders on the oldies/state fair circuit(one with Lenny and one with the fill in bassist from the tv show), That Thing You Do is used in a commercial becomes a hit again and the original band reforms. It could go a darker route or stay with the tone of the original.
  13. Back then and now JR think’s that the fans of pro wrestling have the same mindset of Mid-South/UWF fans circa 1985 to 1987. To him a “legit tough guy” who could “handle himself in a shoot” who also “PLAYED FOOTBAWL!!!” should be pushed to the moon, even if that wrestler is old, broken down, not that great of a promo and not familiar to 90% of the audience. I think Corny is always working so his comment about Russo “costing the WWF $5million” is total bs, since that’s what he think his fans want to hear.
  14. JR and Cornette back then and now look at pro wrestling through 1986 googles, they saw the 1986 Dr. Death and not the broken down 1998 Dr. Death who was out of sight out of mind of North American fans for years. I bet they pushed like hell for Dr. Death vs. Austin but Vince McMahon shoot it down in a matter of seconds along with Austin who was pretty selective on who he worked with. Remember Austin shot down working with Vince Russo's "boys" like Billy Gunn & Jeff Jarrett so him passing on JR's "boy" isn't far fetched, look at who Austin worked with on PPV's from when he won the belt until he was sidelined with the neck surgery. Also, The Brawl for All finals were the Monday before SummerSlam 98, there's no way their deviating from the Austin vs. Undertaker vs. Kane which was the ppv storyline for the fall or in the winter when it's the build for Rock vs. Austin at WM.
  15. Are they going to play the games at 5AM when the temperature is around 102F?
  16. Vince also would have Harley listed as just “The King” for shows in Memphis and maybe Nashville, Lawler ended up suing.
  17. They look like henchmen for a Moore era Bond villain.
  18. They did André vs. Studd on house shows for what seemed liked decades so they needed the retirement angle to spice things up.
  19. Why do they have chairs set-up? They should light it Raging Bull style or break out the green screens and have each match look like it's taking place in some crazy location, have this segment in the Sistine Chapel.
  20. It bombed because the whole thing was badly booked and they still kept Sting as the #1 face. The hot shot angle putting the belt on Simmons was fun but there was no build up and they had him feuding with The Barbarian who was a mid-carder and Cactus Jack who was moving down the heel ladder, either start the feud with Rude early(they were supposed to work Starrcade) or have a feud with Vader. With the exception of Flair, WCW/JCP never seemed to book babyface champions right. Simmons should have been booked along the lines of Bruno and Backlund, grateful and humble but will go into raging ass kicker mode when pushed too far. Have Vader and Harley beat up Teddy Long or some rookie Simmons is mentoring and use that as the jumping off point for Halloween Havoc and possibly Starrcade.
  21. Because Bill Watts and Jim Ross treated anyone that played football as someone special, even if they only played high school football in suburban Marietta.
  22. They really need to do a spinoff covering A.J. Glomb's life of crime! That his path in the underworld started after doing amyl nitrate with Harold Robbins is nuts! Also Glomb has the Pittsburgh accent that's more common than the "Yinzer" one most people associate with the city.
  23. Yesterday the Governor of Michigan(Smackdown is in Detroit) asked that events with 100 or more people be cancelled, hopefully the Gov. or Mayor of Detroit forces them to cancel. It makes no sense to put people at risk when the Performance Center is an option for doing tv.
  24. The Lambada movies wasn't either of those it was Golan and Globus trying to out do each other.
  25. Contractually they had to offer the role to Sinatra, the whole deal was talked about in that Netflix doc about Die Hard. Wasn't Die Hard 2 or at least the novel it was based on tossed around as a Commando sequel?
