  1. IV is still one of the top 10 most played games on Xbox LIve. I've read that also. One thing that helps a lot is to only tap the accelerator enough to keep the plane level. This won't burn as much fuel and helps to prevent oversteering. SA's biggest problem is that it throws in too much stuff, so not everything is done as well as it could be. I hope V doesn't have this problem since it seems like they are trying to cram a ton into it.
  2. It's kind of a shame that they never did San Andreas Stories. I would have loved to have Berkley in there and help him screw over Zero.
  3. I got that back in the day but I have no idea how. I recently replayed most of SA before my PS3 died and I barely got a bronze. That Super GT is by far one of the worst vehicles in any GTA game. I just played through VC on my phone. I still really liked the game. But man, there are some missions on it that make flight school and Zero's stuff seem like a piece of cake. No Escape and The Driver in particular.
  4. IIRC the cars controlled like shit on the Xbox version too. And the liberations are the best part of both games. I got Crazy Taxi for my phone. Good version, though it is hard learning to re-do all the special moves. But it does have the original soundtrack. Also picked up Aliens: Colonial Marines because it hit that $20 price point that I won't kick myself if it's a shit game. But it's not bad so far, though I am only about 3 missions in.
  5. I predict that by the end of the year, Phil Fish will commit suicide. EDIT: The more I think about it, the more I think Marcus Beer was in the wrong for his comments. Marcus Beer should stick with what he's good at....drinking beer, not writing about video games. That is a situation where both sides look incredibly douchey, but Phil Fish looks worse in the end, because he could have just taken the high road and not said anything versus the internet equivalent of "wahhh, I'm taking my ball home". Also the "take the money and run" comment was uncalled for. I think even people that support Fish would take offense to that. I don't have Xbox so I've never played Fez, but isn't the game supposed to be not all that great anyway? It's stuff like this that really annoy me about indie games - some people take themselves FAR too seriously. Fish certianly came off as an ass in Indie Game.
  6. That's stuff's really there for the OCD players who have to have 100% completion. I liked how one of the achievements for GTIV was that you had to kill a Rockstar developer in a multiplayer match. They should stick in some really tedious, annoying tasks that are not necessary to finish the main story. Maybe something like a "Make It Rain" achievement where you have to go to a strip club and get a lap dance for 50 consecutive songs but you have to tip the stripper after every song so you can't leave the game running and come back later. I don't go for trophies and I didn't play online that much in public matches but I did get that Rockstar developer achievement. Just got lucky, I guess. And that was basically how you bought the strip club in VC. You had to sit and let the stripper go for like 10 minutes until you spend $500. I don't think it is a glitch. There are a couple of gang "territories" that are basically just like a block, a little sliver on the map, so they're almost impossible to see. This is one time the homie will help because they will shoot at/attract rival gangs. Also IIRC there are a couple of territories for the Los Santos gangs in Bayside, the resort town north of San Fierro where the boat school is. I need more tips like these guys. Since the option of gang wars was presented to me I plowed through them in Los Santos in like 3 hours, which sucked because now that I'm in San Fiero I can't just go around farming AK's e SMG's from dumb Ballas. For the SMGs, raise your stats on the Uzis to the max so you can dual wield. Best weapon in the game IMO. Now, equip them and go into an Ammunation that has a gun range. Complete the challenges and now you should have infinite ammo for them. Otherwise you can just buy over 9999 rounds and it will become infinite.
  7. Bryant Lake Bowl actually used to have a pretty good arcade itself before it turned into a hipster bar. Rusty Quarters has been trying to get a liquor license but the city isn't going for it. They do have "club" nights sometimes with a DJ playing music. I don't know how much longer they can afford to stay in that spot though. I know they've run a few Kickstarters through their Facebook page so they can pay their lease.
  8. The homies in SA are pretty much useless. They might help a bit when you are trying to take over territories by being a bullet sponge, but for those parts, you're better off just increasing your weapon skills so you can shoot more accurately at a greater distance. Having your friends fight alongside of you in IV is pretty much the same, but at least they have some personality to them. The Lost and Damned did address this somewhat by having your gang members have stats that went up the more you used them, but they were still not that great. Saint's Row did the gang/posse mechanic much better.
  9. Just Cause 1 or Just Cause 2? I guess it doesn't matter. I liked both games, but both of them underutilized the grappling arm and other gimmicks, mostly you're just as well off running and gunning.
  10. Michelle is more of a tutorial on the girlfriend/friend mechanic. That's also one of my complaints with IV. The first act is so slow. There are way too many BS tutorial missions. One thing I really like about the Episodes from Liberty City is that they go right into the action. Hopefully V follows suit. I'm sure there will be tutorial stuff around switching characters but I hope not much more than that. I would also like the side missions to add tanigble rewards. The stuff you got from friends in IV wasn't very useful for the most part. I think if it added to your character's stats/abilities, more people would play the side stuff instead of doing it once or twice because it's required in a mission. There are some open world games like Saints Row and Sleeping Dogs that are really good at that, so it shouldn't be a problem for GTA to incorporate something similar. As for music, if K-DST comes back, I'd be cool with that. I loved flying around listening to stuff like Freebird. And it would be great to have custom soundtracks on PS3.
  11. There is an option to turn off the ringer on your phone, which you will eventually want to do because Roman will be calling you every five minutes to go out and get a drink or play pool, and if you don't, his feelings get hurt and your approval rating with him goes down. The whole girlfriend/friend mechanic in IV was one of the worst things they've done in the series.
  12. Insert Coins opened up in Minneapolis a little while ago. I don't go out much to downtown Minneapolis any more -- too many college d-bags and thug wannabes during the weekend, plus drink prices are outrageous -- but I've been there a couple of times for happy hour and it's pretty cool, a nice selection of oldschool machines and decent drink prices. It's certainly a lot better than the Gameworks that used to be in downtown, that place was a total ripoff, plus the good machines (the few that they had) never worked. http://insertcoinsmpls.com/ I've been to Dave & Busters here once and won't go again. First off, it's way out in the suburbs and takes forever to get to. There's very few actual video games, most of the machines are those stupid ticket redemption scam "games". The drinks are overpriced and the bar/food service was awful. And I got food poisoning from their chicken wings. There's also an Insert Coins in Vegas that is worth a look if you ever go to the Fremont Street Experience area, though I would put the Pinball Hall of Fame way over it if you like oldschool games. If you want a drink, you can go to the Crown & Anchor bar next door and get a big pint for a couple of bucks. The PoF also leases some of its' machines out to the Riviera, which is really the only reason nowadays why I would go in there.
  13. I only played GTAIII on PC, but I used a cheapie digital pad (basically a PS1 knockoff) and then used the mouse for aiming the sniper rifle. It actually made the sniper missions like Bomb Da Base really easy. I just got past that mission in the Android version. This game is glitchier than the Android version of Vice City, but it's still very playable. I don't think the Dodo will by flyable at all in it though. I finally finished donwloading my PSN stuff onto my new PS3 so I'm ready to start playing on it soon. I can't really go back to Dark Souls at this point so I think I will start up the copy of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood that's been sitting around for a couple of months.
  14. Yeah, you do want to save after every mission. I'm not sure what you mean by lack of GPS, do you mean the voice that told you when to turn? I found that awful and not useful. You can mark points on the map and it will appear on your mini map though. FYI there are some weapon pickups near CJ's house that really help out early on in the game. I also recommend doing the bike or treadmill at the gym so you can sprint longer. Getting 100 fares in the taxi will get nitrous on all taxis, which is pretty useful and it will raise your driving skills so you're not spinning out after every turn. There is also a horse betting shop that can get you a lot of money. Save before you go in, bet all your money on the 12 or 13 to 1 horse, save if you win, reload if you don't. You can quickly earn a few million dollars this way, more than enough to buy all the properties and ammo as you need it. And get ready to feel the seething hate for Zero
  15. I stopped listening to Carolla's show for the most part a long time ago. He kept rehashing the same stuff over and over. I think between doing 5 shows a week and live appaerances, he stretched himself too thin, and his material suffered. It doesn't help that he surrounds himself with no talent cronies like Bald Bryan, who is fucking useless IMO and him playing the same three drops make the podcast sound like a second rate morning zoo show. The live shows were particularly horrible, they were just mostly a clusterfuck of a half drunk Adam repeating the same stories. Also a lot of the guests are just horrible. And then when Adam does get a good one on, he never lets them talk anyway. I don't really care about Adam's political views, it's just that he is so hypocritical to me. Like when he rails on people for being bad parents when he is having his nanny basically raise his kids and he does stuff like call his son derogatory terms for a gay person or his daughter a bitch.
  16. You're not going to have an all in one service, because you have the different streaming companies bidding with the studios to try and entice new subscribers with their exclusive content. Also, now you have the studios themselves preparing to get into the subscription streaming business, which is why Warner Bros didn't renew their contract with Netflix. It's kind of like wishing at this point that there was one pay cable channel that showed all of the new movies. It's only going to get more and more splintered, because there is a lot of money to be made and everyone wants a piece of the pie.
  17. Since Sony/Columbia owns the US rights, Kung Fu Hustle is on Crackle along with a handful of Jackie Chan movies and a couple Bruceploitation/old school kung fu films. I think the only other Stephen Chow movie on instant Netflix is King of Beggars. It's not among his top tier, but it's a fine film. A lot of kung fu in it (it is his take on the famous Beggar So character) and he is paired with his sidekick "Uncle" Ng Man-Tat, so there is some good humor as well.
  18. You can just leave the envelopes in your mailbox/mail slot and the mailman will pick them up. You don't have to take them to a mailbox.
  19. I still do discs as well. $8 doesn't even get you a matinee ticket in most theatres around here, and Netflix still has a lot of stuff on disc that has gone OOP like older kung fu movies and the like. I usually get one disc a week if I watch them right away, so it works out well for me.
  20. Sorry for the double. These are some non-Jackie Hong Kong/Chinese titles on Netflix I would recommend: The Assassins Flying Swords of Dragon Gate The Viral Factor Dragon The Great Magician Bodyguards and Assassins Ip Man Ip Man 2 Detective Dee Legend of the Fist True Legend Lust, Caution The Warlords Golden Chicken Golden Chicken 2 Shaolin Soccer 2000 AD China Strike Force Happy Together Fallen Angels WIng Chun Farewell My Concubine The Heroic Trio Days of Being Wild As Tears Go By Mighty Peking Man Flash Point
  21. There is a part where you see a guy's bare ass, some "sexy" bikini clad gogo dancing, a few uses of profanity, and scene where a guy is put into a wood chipper (inferred, not shown). It was rated R when it came out, but it would be PG-13 now, and a light one at that. The body count isn't anywhere near something like the James Bond movies. Most of Jackie's movies (even the ones that are rated R) would fall into PG/PG-13 territory IMO and I wouldn't have a problem with kids watching them. Jackie has gone for a family audience for years. The MPAA seems to have a problem with "realistic" fighting but it's pretty bloodless, and you might see an occasional bare ass once in while (such as Jackie's own in First Strike) but they're chaste for the most part. Jackie barely even kisses his female co-stars. He's only done a handful of what most people would consider serious or adult movies, such as Crime Story, The Protector, and Shinjuku Incident. Those I would probably not recommend for little kids, though compared to some R rated movies, they're still fairly tame. Jae, Police Story 3 is Supercop. There was a spinoff with Michelle Yeoh's character, Project S, that was renamed to Supercop 2 for the US release. There are a good amount of Jackie movies on Netflix, but they are the Miramax versions, which means they're dubbed and edited.
  22. Shaundi #2? Is this a clone? I haven't read/watched anything on the game. I wonder if they're going back to the SR/Red Faction connection through Ultor. And Johnny Gat needs to be a playable character or have some sort of DLC spinoff.
  23. You would get the cops on you in Vice City also, but there are a couple of jumps that you can take where you can trick the game into not triggering the 5 star level. It's not really all that useful to do unless you want to get all of the hidden packages so you have the weapons at your hideout and the Annihilator helicopter. There are some areas that will always trigger a 5 star level if you don't go in the right way, such as the miltary base in VC or Area 69 in SA. By the time you get the Dodo in III, you've unlocked all of the map. I think you were thinking about the Ghost City, a part of the map that is high up in the clouds that is used for the initial cutscene of the bank robbery. You can fly up to it, but you can't land on it. The Dodo is a pain in the ass to fly, but I got good at it, so I didn't have a problem with Flight School in SA.
  24. Jackie has said in interviews that he was pretty influenced by Gene Kelly, particularly the way he incorporated normal objects like chairs into his dance routines. If you haven't seen Miracles, it's Jackie's favorite film that he has done and is a homage to 30-50's Hollywood musicals (it's a loose remake of a Frank Capra film).
  25. My 40GB fat PS3 died. It wasn't a full on YLOD, but it wouldn't power on and the power light blinks red. I knew it was on its last legs for a while because the fan was always on, but I was hoping to keep it going for a few more months until PS4 comes out so that I could either get a PS4 or a cheap PS3. And apparently no one, not even pawn shops, will take this model, even for parts or to refurbish. Oh well. I did get a pretty good deal on a 250GB slim, so it will be nice to not have to clean the fridge everytime I want to install a new game or download something from PSN. The only thing I really am kind of sad about is that I was 50+ hours into Dark Souls and I wasn't able to rescue that save. I really like the game a lot, but I don't have anywhere near the time at this point to invest in it again. So until my new PS3 arrives in the mail, I have been playing random stuff on my Wii through the Virtual Console, mostly Neo-Geo games I downloaded but never spent too much time with like Nam 1975. I've also been playing some more stuff on my Android phone. I got through Vice City. The touch controls aren't too bad once you get used to them, though the first-person aiming for sniping is still really touchy. The mission where you have to beat Phil's score at the gun range was pretty tough. I just got GTAIII. It's a little less refined than the phone version of Vice City, but I'm having fun playing through it again for probably the 10th time. It's at the point where I remember most of the locations of the hidden packages.
