  1. ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ Spinoff From ‘Cobra Kai’ Creators & Bill Posley In Works At Paramount Pictures – Deadline A film about the two valets who took the Ferrari on a joy ride in the original film is in development. Who knows? If this works, maybe we can have a "Back to the Future" spinoff all about Red the Bum or the woman handing out "Save the Clock Tower" paperwork.
  2. I laughed a bit too much over the remarks regarding Excalibur living in an exclusive gated community for masked wrestlers. Now I'm imagining him hosting a BBQ with Liger and the Thunderfeet present
  3. It's pro wrestling from the Philippines, which is actually half wrestling, half weight training trips and hard sells for unisex vitamins and rubbing alcohol. And this comes from a U.S. broadcast, so we have ads for syndie stables like Zamfir and Encyclopedia Britannica. CRACKER NUTS!
  4. Saw this in an Observer news update -- someone posted SIX HOURS of Spanish-language telecasts of wrestling from San Francisco and Los Angeles in the mid-70s.
  5. His daughter announced on Facebook that actor Roger E. Mosley died earlier today at age 83 ... Blaxploitation film regular in the 70s, "Magnum P.I." star in the 80s (and appeared in the reboot) ...
  6. Discovery has a decent global sports portfolio with NBA, NHL, MLB, U.S. Soccer (starting next year), plus intl rights on golf and the Olympics. I presume AEW fits under the sports brand. IIRC, AEW came aboard the Turner brand before AT&T took over, so it's not one of the HBO Max/Jason Kilar pet projects that David Zaslav wants to kill or gut.
  7. CMLL's Anniversary show on 9/16 will have a pair of apuesta matches ... The straightforward one is Jarochita vs. Reyna Isis, mask vs. mask The second one will be a one-night incredible partners tournament consisting of four teams. The winning tag team will have an apuesta match to end the show. The teams are ... Atlantis Sr./Fuerza Guerrera Atlantis Jr/Stuka Jr. Soberano Jr./Templario Averno/Ultimo Guerrero So it's six masks, one hair and one mullet on the line in this tournament.
  8. Down to three on network TV ... https://deadline.com/2022/08/days-of-our-lives-moving-from-nbc-to-peacock-1235084639/#comments
  9. https://www.thewrap.com/hbo-max-removes-original-movies-streaming-the-witches-locked-down/ At least six HBO Max films appeare to have been pulled from the streamer, along with plans to release the House Party remake
  10. RIP Pat Carroll, 95, the voice of Ursula in Disney's "The Little Mermaid" ... Growing up (70s and 80s), she seemed to guest star on every sitcom, cartoon, game show and talk show imaginable.
  11. Dory Funk Jr.'s autobiography comes out August 22 ... https://www.amazon.com/Last-Great-Breed-Stories-Wrestling/dp/166785058X/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=4ZPKM9VHV7RM&keywords=dory+funk+jr&qid=1659221723&sprefix=dory+funk%2Caps%2C131&sr=8-1
  12. In one of HTMs shoots, he mentioned that Savage, Elizabeth, Vince and Dick Ebersol had a meeting at Ebersol's home about the Main Event primetime special, focusing on having Savage win the IC belt from HTM. HTM said he was told by Vince at Titan Towers about the Main Event plan after the Ebersol meeting, and was told that his character would be "rebuilt" after the title loss. He took this that he would be lost in the shuffle and, at worst, out of a job. So he fought the decision -- he said Savage supported him -- and the ending was changed to HTM keeping the title. In regards to Warrior, HTM said in the same shoot (I believe) that he was OK with dropping the title because Vince was direct with him about plans for the IC belt-- that he would get rematches on house shows with Warrior, etc.
  13. When I was in college one weekend, I gathered with a few friends to watch and talk movies. Someone asked the question to name one or two actors that always made a film or TV show better, regardless of quality, just because they were in it. The two names I mentioned were Jerry Orbach and Paul Sorvino. Both were rarely the lead, but they commanded your attention when they appeared on screen. You wanted to see what they did next or what would happen to them. I saw "The Firm" in a sold-out movie theater in 1993. When Sorvino popped up on screen for the first time, the audience went crazy. One guy behind me yelled "Sh*t's going to get real really soon" 3-4 times. But by the time the filmed ended and ... ... the audience pretty much turned on the movie and started throwing popcorn boxes and soda cups at the screen. Same guy behind me yelled something to the extent of "Why didn't (Sorvino) kill anybody? This is bull!"
  14. Immediately thought of Regal playing the Paxton Whitehead role in a "Back to School" reboot ...
  15. BLACKBIRD Starring: Michael Flatley, Eric Roberts, Patrick Bergin In theaters in Ireland September 2; U.S. unknown Have you ever said to yourself that you would love to see a James Bond/Eurospy epic starring "The Lord of the Dance"? Well ... Michael Flatley stars in this spy film, which was directed by, written by, produced by and primarily financed by the Irish dance king. Premiered with a private screening in 2018, only to vanish from sight until today's announcement of a theatrical release in Ireland. Who knew Flatley had the goal of being Ireland's Tommy Wiseau?
  16. ‘Fletch’ Reboot With Jon Hamm Heads to Showtime, Lands Same-Day Streaming Release (thewrap.com) Looks we are getting a new "Fletch" movie after all. Premiering on Showtime a month after a theater/VOD release? Not getting my hopes up.
  17. The new Salems Lot movie has been moved from this coming September to April 2023 due to "COVID-related post-production delays."
  18. This was at the World Games, which is going on right now in Birmingham, Alabama. The games include a sumo competition. Gold medal match is Egypt against Ukraine. Egypt guy wins, but then proceeds to do a backflip to celebrate and is disqualified. Coach goes balistic, bringing out the cops (!) Judges decide to have a rematch right then and there, and Egypt guy wins again. Egypt coach is a former sumo pro named Osuna-arashi, who famously fought Bob Sapp in a Rizin MMA fight a few years back.
  19. Tony Khan mentioned yesterday on Twitter that Penelope Ford is out with an injury but is still part of the AEW roster. Abadon's presentation screams a strong interest in Japanese culture (and most of their non-jobber matches has been against Japanese talent -- curious if they have at least a conversational handle of the Japanese language), so a Japan tour would be a no-brainer. Comoroto could learn how to be a Gordy/Williams/Hansen-like hoss with a few Japan tours. I have no idea why, but I'd love to see AEW make Bear Country its rep for the G1 Tag League this year (if AEW sends a team).
  20. With my daughter visiting her grandparents on her late mother's/my late wife's side out of state, now was the perfect opportunity to go to the movies to see a "grown up film" in a theater for the first time in forever. The Phantom of the Open is a "based on a true story" film about Maurice Flitcroft, a crane operator who decides, at age 46 and having never played a round of golf in his life, to try and qualify for the British Open. It's essentially a story about an eternal optimist who put his dreams aside decades earlier, only to pursue them again as his children grow up. It's humorous, but doesn't attempt to be "mile a minute" funny that most popcorn flicks try to do these days. Mark Rylance is great as Flitcroft -- one can argue dark horse Best Actor Oscar nominee for his work. There are times where you should just sit back and enjoy the film and not question its accuracy ... Did have some minor issues with the plot -- tension seemed to be a bit forced near the film's climax. And there was at least one scene that sparked a few groans in the theater ... Regardless, I thought it was a good film and a welcome respite from talking animals, cartoons and other "bells and whistles" types of movies. One other thing I got a kick out of ...
  21. LYLE, LYLE CROCODILE Premieres in theaters October 7 Estimated date my daughter will ask to see this film: September 7
  22. Basically, it means failing to act in the interest of stockholders and others -- mismanaging money, failing to let stockholders know of certain things, etc.
  23. Zac Efron to star in a film about wrestling's Von Erichs for A24 ... https://deadline.com/2022/06/zac-efron-the-iron-claw-a24-sean-durkin-1235046496/
