  1. It's been quite a while, probably since 2014, where I had a real interest in film and here's a sort of resolution/shame list that I want to check out:
  2. Watched The Tale of Princess Kaguya last night for the first time and it was incredible.
  3. Has anyone seen The Greasy Strangler yet? I searched but couldn't find anything. The Red Band trailer is absolutely nuts. It looks like a mix between Troma, John Waters and Frank Henenlotter.
  4. I'm sorry about that. I meant to put my username in there but I must have forgot it.
  5. The 70s will probably be my most represented decade on my ballot (which I completed recently but will turn in closer to the deadline). Here are the ones I'd really pimp highly that haven't been listed:
  6. I really wish I would have participated in the 50s poll as I was really looking forward to that but I fell out of my film fandom at the time and virtually stopped watching films. Here are the contenders for my ballot:
  7. Here are the films that are in my current draft:
  8. I got over 300 films in one previous draft and now over 100 in this draft.
  9. Thanks for the recommendations. I'm gonna have to watch those when I get off work today.
  10. What are some of the best horror short films that you guys have seen?
  11. So any updates on this? I thought it'd be kinda cool to even have a subforum to talk about individual films like PWO did with wrestlers for the GWE project. I'm starting to really type out arguments for films and will share if we have pimping threads.
  12. I've really started the month out on a bang with some choice titles that are first time watches: Shock - Mario Bava's last film but it was quite fun and very atmospheric. Not a whole lot to write about but it was enjoyable if you love 70s Italian horror. The Neon Demon - Well, it looked good, didn't it? Pan's Labyrinth - I know it's more dark fantasy but I had it in my collection for years and never got to it until Sunday. Fantastic film! Black Roses - This is my favorite so far. Sooooo much fun! Now, it's not a masterpiece (who am I kidding? of course it is) but it's as good of a party movie with friends that you could have. It has great, ridiculous monsters, an equally ridiculous yet awesome soundtrack. It all centers around a mysterious heavy metal band comes to a small Canadian town to begin their tour but something is amiss. Are they subtly influence the town's high schoolers to become rebels in the name of Satan? There is also some magnificently high blown hair and even higher ranges in the vocals by the incomparable Sal Viviano. Even Carmine Appice makes an appearance as the evil band's drummer. This is a must see! House on the Edge of the Park - This is really ranks up there with some of the sleaziest films of the late 70s and early 80s. David Hess is really channeling Krug from Last House on the Left here. Ruggero "Cannibal Holocaust" Deodato directs this well directed and acted sleazefest. There really isn't a bad performance in here and every single character is on various parts of the despicable meter.
  13. I'm in! I made a first draft list chronological order that's at 425 films. 137 films from the 70s alone. I'm going to have to go through several drafts to narrow it down to 100.
  14. Just finished the set the other day. What a great set! I can see myself rewatching this once a year. It's so much fun and very little down time in it. Looking at my ratings, I only consider 3 matches as below average. I also have 44 matches in my top tier. Here are my Top 30: My Top 5 Wrestlers:
  15. I can't wait to take part in this project!
  16. Just saw the project this afternoon. I plan on submitting my ballot later today. 2010-2012 was the height of my film watching but unfortunately the last couple years life had gotten really busy and I couldn't see as many as I would've liked.
  17. A group of film podcasts that I listen to have joined together in the last few weeks to review a bunch of films themed for what they call "SLEAZY SUMMER". Kind of like the Halloween Havoc that goes on here but with some of the sleaziest exploitation films. It'll include The Gentlemen's Guide to Midnite Cinema, Silva & Gold, The Trashy Trio, Married With Clickers, Hammicus, Cult of Muscle and The Feminine Critique. So if you love Marvel Comics like crossover summer events but with down and dirty sleaze, check these podcasts out!
  18. Part 3 is great too! The biker gang was by far my favorite part of the film but I loved everything else as well. I think I'd rank the series as: 6, 4, 3, 1, 2, 5, Remake, 8, X, 7, JGH.
  19. Since today is the 13th, I'm gonna watch Part IV: The Final Chapter. What is everyone's favorite Friday the 13th film? Mine is Part 6: Jason Lives with Part 4 right behind it.
  20. Awesome lists from everyone! I will try to do a write up of my picks this weekend. I love doing this list a little more than than the year-end list as it's fascinating of what I've discovered over the year and I tend to forget about the new releases that I've seen after doing my list.
  21. I started watching Black Mirror on Netflix and I don't think I've seen such a bleak satire show on TV before. There's something to a show where I have the feeling to look away when nothing graphic is going on but what they hit with modern people's traits is really brutal and quite honest. I'm watching the episode with the "American Idol" type show is leaving me breathless.
  22. It's that time of year again. What is everyone's favorite film first time watches of the last year? My Top 30: 30. Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan [1997] 29. The Last Emperor [1987] 28. Universal Soldier: Regeneration [2009] 27. Paprika [2006] 26. Fright Night [1985] 25. Coogan's Bluff [1968] 24. Natural Enemies [1979] 23. Bohachi Bushido: The Code of the Forgotten Eight [1973] 22. Eye of the Tiger [1986] 21. Incident at Oglala [1992] 20. Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky [1991] 19. Scorpio Rising [1964] 18. We Were Here [2011] 17. How to Train Your Dragon [2010] 16. Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy [2010] 15. Millenium Actress [2001] 14. Charley Varrick [1973] 13. Ghost in the Shell [1995] 12. Road Games [1981] 11. Soldier Blue [1970] 10. Valhalla Rising [2009] 9. Wise Blood [1979] 8. The Incredibles [2004] 7. Senna [2010] 6. Grave of the Fireflies [1988] 5. Anatomy of a Murder [1959] 4. Shane [1953] 3. Brokeback Mountain [2005] 2. Trick R Treat [2007] 1. Lone Wolf and Cub Film Series
  23. I don't know if anyone here listens to the Gentlemen's Guide to Midnite Cinema podcast but everyone should. As their tag line goes: They bring the class to the trash. Very nice guys and they cover everything from the Korean New Wave to Eurocrime to Z grade 80s/90s action films. I created a list that's like the DVDVR 80s project in that I have 125 films (well, there are some trilogies as one entry). Their wheelhouse usually includes: Charles Bronson, Henry Silva, J&B whiskey, fingerless gloves, half shirts, Canadian Tuxedos, Zubaz pants, fanny packs, metal plated hats, etc.
  24. Anyone else fans of the Michael Mann heist classic Thief? I love blue collar crime films.
