  1. Boris Diaw is my favorite NBA player and somehow I had never heard this amazing story about him:
  2. Did anyone ever mention that Disgaea is coming to PC? Because Disgaea is coming to PC.
  3. The release of Fallout 4 gave me Bethesda fever, so I started a new game of Skyrim. Sit through the long-ass intro, create my character, and the game bugs out when I'm supposed to go into the keep in Helgen. Never change. I've been on a big city-builder/strategy kick lately. Switching between Settlers 3, Tropico 4, and RimWorld. Tropico is my favorite of the lot; it hits that nice sweet spot between depth and accessibility and I really enjoy the theme.
  4. Harden was an above-average defender at points through last year, but he (and the rest of the team) have been dogging it hard so far. Which makes me think this might be more than your usual "you can't fire the players" coach firing.
  5. Watching Thibs get madder and redder at James Harden's defense would be a fun thing to watch. Supposedly we'll be getting a new Lowe Post today or tomorrow.
  6. Eh, they're (mostly) fine. And RPGs are a good way to channel their ridiculousness into something entertaining.
  7. I've also come back to D&D in my 30s (I was way into it as a teen and quit playing in HS) and I'm having a blast with it. Although I'm less interested in the dice-rolling, killing parts of it and more into the fruity roleplaying bits and farting around with my friends. I'm gearing up to run a campaign for my girlfriend and some of her friends, all of whom are or were theater people. I expect it to be amazing.
  8. Sound the Zach Lowe siren, he has a column up on ESPN.com today.
  9. That was a less-than-ideal way for Wisconsin to start the season.
  10. People have been treating him as a joke for years for dogging it and getting fat once he got a big contract, but Hedo was transformational during his first run in Orlando. Such a weird prototype that didn't play like anyone else in the league.
  11. *Extremely Bill Simmons voice* Who says no?
  12. Jesus Christ, I'm not sure the Kings have ever Kingsed this hard. The highlights: -Boogie cursing out Karl in front of the entire team -Boogie feeling bad and asking teammates if that was over the line -Vlade Divac asking the team if they should fire Karl -Ranadive's embarasing boner for John Calipari
  13. They looked so close to turning it around when the Maloofs sold the team, but just cannot escape being a goddamned calamity every year.
  14. That's an awful nice court. Cheick Diallo lawyered up to fight for his eligibility. It's looking increasingly unlikely that he'll play at KU this year, which is going to be a real dick in the zipper for their season. Mickelson/Lucas/Traylor are mostly OK playing center-by-committee, but nobody is really bringing the grit and defensive intensity he was supposed to provide.
  15. Uhh, that's 2-time WORLD CHAMPION Mario Chalmers to us plebes. Kings are apparently already unhappy with George Karl and Vivek wants to make a change. Just in case you were worried that they got their shit together.
  16. Jonah Keri said his stuff is going to be on espn.com from now on, so they're doing something. It's a little weird they would have the baseball stuff up first since the season just ended while football and basketball are going on.
  17. Axing Simmons during the playoffs and depriving us of Lowe right as the season starts can't help but feel like a big 'fuck you' from ESPN.
  18. Lowe is still on twitter but hasn't written anything for espn.com. I don't think any of the Grantland alums have.
  19. Went to UW's exhibition last night. Hard to tell much when they're playing a team that's all 6'6" or shorter, but they looked OK. Ethan Happ did nice things near the basket and is going to be a really good rebounder. But he can't do anything away from the basket and is a pretty bad free throw shooter. The defense was pretty bad for a Bo Ryan team; if you can beat your perimeter defender then you will have a clear path right to the basket. I ran into Andy Katz buying a t-shirt before the game, which was very unexpected.
  20. Even if they can find a team to give up picks for him, still gotta match that $24M. Really, the thing that makes the most sense is for the Nets to buy him out before the deadline and let him sign with a contender. But they have no incentive to do that.
  21. Is anyone really giving up picks for Johnson at this point in his career?
  22. I forgot about the swap. That trade was so fucking bad.
