  1. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that listed Gremlins on their Christmas movie list. I'm honestly not sure I had seen it since I was kid. I remembered almost nothing about it and straight up lost it when Phoebe Cates tells about her dad dying in the chimney. This was great to have on while wrapping gifts earlier tonight. Definitely going in the rotation each year from here on out.
  2. We watch an awful lot of Christmas movies and specials in our house. My top teneleven favorite Christmas movies: 1. A Christmas Story 2. White Christmas 3. Christmas Vacation 4. Die Hard 5. Elf 6. Home Alone 7. Scrooged 8. Bad Santa 9. Jingle All the Way 10. The Polar Express 11. Prancer My wife, daughter and I all watch the Tim Allen Santa Clause movies, Arthur Christmas, and Home Alone 2 plus the main specials like Mickey's Christmas Carol, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Charlie Brown, Twas the Night Before Christmas, Rudolph and Frosty. I usually watch Ernest Saves Christmas, Four Christmases, Fred Claus, Jack Frost(Michael Keaton), Die Hard 2, Christmas with the Kranks and Deck the Halls while I'm wrapping gifts. Then I DVR a lot of the other Christmas specials like A Year Without a Santa Claus, Jack Frost(Rankin and Bass), Rudolph's Shiny New Year, Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July, Nestor the Long Eared Christmas Donkey, Frosty's Winter Wonderland, Shrek the Halls, and Toy Story That Time Forgot plus my daughter has Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Frosty Returns, The Little Drummer Boy, Cricket on the Hearth, and Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol on a DVD set and Mickey's Once and Twice Upon a Christmas as well as Prep and Landing 1 and 2 on DVD also--I will sit and watch these with her because she enjoys them and wants someone to watch them with her, even though some of them are pretty hard to sit through. We start the day after Thanksgiving when we get the tree and decorations down. So far we've seen Home Alone and Elf twice, Home Alone 2 once, and then Rudolph, Frosty, the Grinch, Charlie Brown, A Year Without A Santa Claus, Jack Frost(Rankin and Bass), Rudolph's Shiny New Year, and Nestor. We'll probably knock out the Santa Clause movies, Prancer, and The Polar Express this weekend at least, maybe Arthur Christmas too. We'll probably watch The Little Drummer Boy at lunch tomorrow. The week before Christmas with my daughter off of school we'll knock out most of the other specials--and probably watch Elf and the Home Alones another time or two, those are her favorites.
  3. WWE Shop has a buy one, get one for $1 t-shirt sale today. Thought I was done Christmas shopping for my daughter, but went ahead and got her the Suplex City shirt she wanted and a Sasha one to go with the Legit Boss necklace and gold shutter shades I already bought.
  4. So much for all that, sounds like the Nats would non-tender Espinosa if they get a McCutchen deal done. I'm definitely surprised the Nats are willing to move Robles, I would have thought he was untouchable. But I guess they want to get a deal done ASAP, so no point in dicking around on the negotiations.
  5. Yeah, according to Fangraphs, he's really only been ok in CF three out of eight years, four if you want to be generous. But he fell off a cliff by all metrics this past year it seems. Maybe the Nats in-house metrics show a Cutch as a better defender than the publicly available info? I know the prevailing opinion might be to move Turner back to SS, but maybe putting him at 2B and sliding Daniel Murphy to 1B and Ryan Zimmerman to the bench might be better? The Nats are on the hook for three more years with Zimmerman, but he's been awful for three years running. Espinosa's bat hasn't been great but he was the better hitter of the two last year and his defense has been solid. I don't know the Nats system well enough to pick out a couple of mid tier position prospects, but I could buy that type of return. Hard to believe, the return would have been huge a year ago. I hope McCutchen bounces back, I've been a fan of his since he was in the minors.
  6. Assuming Lucas Giolito and Victor Robles are off limits(and from the sound of things, no one wants to move top tier prospects for McCutchen), the Nats would have pitchers like A.J. Cole, Austin Voth, Erick Fedde(in AA), and Reynaldo Lopez all with 6 years of control as well as Joe Ross with 5 years of control. OF Juan Soto has had some top 100 prospect buzz but is four or five years away, not sure if by high level you mean prospect ranking/value or upper minors/near ready prospects. I could see two of the arms plus Soto as a decent return if the prevailing opinion really is McCutchen isn't bouncing back to MVP level production, and that seems to be the thinking of teams looking to acquire him.
  7. My wife has a slight case of this, with her it's just the sound of people chewing food. The more tired she is, the more sensitive she becomes to it. So if we're watching tv late at night, there is no chewing while fast forwarding through commercials and no crunchy snacks.
  8. I bought my daughter a couple of the Chinese knockoff minifigure sets a couple of years ago for Christmas. They're nice looking and function as well as the real Lego figures. It was much cheaper than buying a discountinued set that was marked up on Ebay and Amazon to get her Black Widow at the time. I think she'll be happy with the quality on that set for sure.
  9. There is a small Mexican restaurant chain where I live that basically everyone knows to only pay cash at. There were servers at multiple locations punching in higher tip amounts, enough that it didn't seem like a coincidence. They weren't going crazy, just a buck or two at a time, small enough that people who don't reconcile their bank statements or match credit card charges to receipts didn't notice. Being a small town with a community message board site, one person posted something about getting overcharged and more people started looking into it and seeing they were too. The food is really good though, so even people who were overcharged would say "I'll just pay cash next time".
  10. After time traveling from Japan on one his 400 days a year schedule. I think the real question is whether Doc Brown invented the DeLorean time machine or if Hogan developed the flux capacitor technology first.
  11. Having worked as a delivery driver, restaurant manager, and bar owner I tend to overtip. Delivery, usually 30% if they're on time, but at least $5. I've tipped $5 for a free pizza before, most places don't give the whole delivery fee to the driver, some places it's less than half. Dine-in starts at 30% and can run to 40% or better for exceptional service. I also try and tip in cash whenever possible, credit card tips get added to paychecks and taxed at most places anymore. Carside to go service usually $5, the only place we do this is Applebee's and we only go there if the wife or I get a gift card for a birthday or Christmas gift--at least at our local Applebee's it's the hostess that runs the orders out so it's not a waitress or bartender pulled away from tipping customers. I always throw in a few bucks at the locally owned pizza place when picking up an order there, ownership has changed a few times but the quality remains high and it's been around forever. Haircuts $3-5. Furniture/appliance delivery $10-20 per person, depending on how many pieces/trips they have to make.
  12. I've used Money Inc., Devastation Inc. and Legion of Doom at various times.
  13. I'm so happy they did the right thing in the right situation, I don't care how or when they inevitably screw it up. I had forgotten it was an elimination match when Owens pinned Cass and was about to jump out of my seat, then immediately thought "Ok, this is going to be Owens big moment and he'll get eliminated next." When Reigns covered him, I thought that was it. When he kicked out, I thought "Ok, maybe there is a sliver of a chance he wins, but probably not." When HHH showed up though, that was it. My daughter was watching with me and I told her, "Owens is going to win, just wait and see." So great, it's been an hour and I'm not sure I've stopped smiling yet. I can't wait for Owens and Jericho next week and to see what his first program will be as champ.
  14. I kind of hate you right now. I mean, not really...but now you've put this idea in my head and it's never going to happen. So now I don't get to see Dash Wilder let Zack Ryder chase him around ringside right into an AA clothesline or Arn and Dawson both hitting guys with spinebusters at the same time. Nope, I was right the first time, I hate you now.
  15. Are Superstars and Main Event only on the Network or are they still on tv somewhere in the US? I know they are still in some international markets, but some sort of TV-esque title that is only on those shows for the lower/mid card guys that only win there would be a good idea.
  16. How long has UpUpDwnDwn been on the Network? I just noticed it for the first time today.
  17. I read Titan Sinking recently and it covered this. I believe it's ok to quote a small portion of the book, right?(if not, mods please remove) "In the weeks leading up to the Wrestlemania showdown, an increasingly concerned Bigelow confided in Taylor that he didn't want to be embarrassed and told him that it would be in his best interests to take his training for the match seriously. Taylor had no intention of looking foolish either and he agreed, spedning hours at a time being put through the paces and learning the bare minimum required to put together a semi-decent match. He worked with Bigelow on desiging spots, listening intently to the veteran wrestler as he was told what to do and how to do it. Bigelow was more confident in their ability to have a reasonable match when it came to the day of the showdown, but before the bout he still took Taylor to one side and warned him that if he screwed up or tried to make him look bad, he was going to forcibly call an audible(change the finish) while they were in the ring." "Bigelow knew the pace needed to slow further in order for Taylor to survive the encounter without losing his wind. Even though Taylor was a world class athlete and had been at the top of his profession, Bigelow was well aware from talking to other ex-footballers turned fulltime wrestlers that bein in ring shape was very different to any other form of conditioning. "Let's take it easy," he whispered, before turning Taylor over into a double leg hook submission hold known as the Boston Crab." From that, it sounds like he worked hard at it, but it doesn't go into any detail into how long he trained.
  18. I saw Harold Ramirez mentioned on Twitter as one of the prospects going to Toronto
  19. Padres still save something like $20 million overall though.
  20. So Tom Magee and Carrot Top were separated at birth. You learn something new every day. Maybe some props would have made Tom's offense look better, or maybe helped him sell the correct knee after the missed knee drop.
  21. If they book like Dallas, can they do "Who shot Vince?", only really shoot Vince and get him out of the way?
  22. Wasn't Cena learning Mandarin in the first or second season of Total Divas? I think he was trying to teach a few words to Nikki in one episode.
  23. Thanks. I looked at Walmart's website and saw the Brock box as well as the retail box I got from Amazon. The Brock box has one less card per pack which seems odd, but it does come with the guaranteed relic card as well, which is cool. I will definitely have to buy a box there soon.
  24. So after seeing this thread the other day, I decided collecting wrestling cards would be something fun my daughter and I could do together to further her love of wrestling. So I ordered a box of what I'm guessing are just the standard WWE 2016 Topps cards from Amazon. They came today and we had a good time opening them. The box came with one relic card: It's listed as 021/199. Obviously, my daughter was very excited the "special" card was John Cena, so we're definitely keeping this one. I did tell her I thought we could probably buy a box a month or something(at least until we complete the set) since they only run $20 a box. So I'm curious where I would find values on the relic cards from this set should we end up with a more rare one or a desirable relic of a wrestler she's not a fan of to possibly recoup some of the money spent on the boxes. I remember Beckett being the end all, be all of pricing guides for sports cards 25 years ago when I was collecting various cards--is there any sort of resource out there or do you just gauge value by what cards are moving for on Ebay?
  25. What's the consensus on Shameless(US version)? I just started watching it on Netflix last night and after a few espisodes it seems fun and the time goes by awfully quick. I definitely like it so far. If I look back a few pages, will I find a separate thread for it?
