  1. I was a huge mark for the poet laureate of the WWF, and loved the frisbees with the poem into the crowd.
  2. I'm back in Austin and my house still has no power, going on 57 hours and the power company has no estimate on when it will be restored. While I will likely be moving with my wife and cats to a friend's house this evening so we don't freeze, they don't have cable so I will have to try and catch this one on YouTube or illegal streaming later on. Based on the announced matches, nothing seems like Can't Miss at least. edit to add: I'm currently at my office charging up all the electronics and external battery packs, and also using the shower.
  3. Knowing he is straight-edge, I assume that by not using alcohol or heavy pain-killers to numb the pain helps him be more aware of what he can and can't do and when to take it easy.
  4. Weird to run the first show in what’s basically a suburb of Dayton 6 weeks after they run Dynamite/Rampage in Dayton. These venues are like 30 minutes apart.
  5. Opener was just another brutal all-out brawl where I wasn’t sure who was going to win. Very enjoyable. Makes sense to have Bunny be paid to distract Hayter while Saraya and Toni jump Britt, since BB&B are total mercenaries. Hayter is going to beat the crap out of her now. Outrunners, yes!! Fun little squash! Good luck trying to turn The Acclaimed heel, don’t see anyway that happens against the Ass Boys. I guess I can handle Cage as “huge guy who makes strong face look very impressive”, Takeshita looked great in this. Danielson-Thatcher was excellent but I would actually possibly prefer a match where there isn’t already the “damaged body part target” storyline just to see some more fun catch stuff. And then Lard Lad brawls with MJF and gets a match next week! And we get Danielson-Rush! The Jade-Velvet match kinda sucked, she’s plateaued right now match and story wise. The visual pin wasn’t earned, at not point was there any real sense that Velvet was a threat, nor did Velvet come off particularly good or strong. And then they need to decide if Jade is face or heel. Is she getting her comeuppance? Then she can’t keep having her kid with her. Is she the next Hulk Hogan, wrestling like a heel but acting like she’s a face? Darby is a masochist. Joe is a sadist. This wasn’t their most violent match but it was still a lot of crazy shit. Joe got busted open hardway when Darby dove into the table he was holding up, the leg caught him right above the eye. And that was a fun 5 weeks, but now it’s back to the hoss fights.
  6. The Texas ice storm has me stuck in a hotel in Abilene instead of at my powerless home in Austin, where I was supposed to be by now, so I guess one plus is being able to watch Dynamite.
  7. Well, that was a lot of fun. Strap a rocket to Billie Starkz. Let her be the Action Andretti to Jade Cargill. I legit bought into the idea that The Workhorsemen were going to pull a minor upset over Silver and Reynolds. JD Drake is the fucking best. He's a top notch southern style brawler and also a great base/catcher. I would build my theoretical promotion around a guy like Drake. Rush beating the shit out of Pillman was good stuff. That family at ringside had no idea what they were in for. Athena is the fucking best and deserves better than her current position but I'm also kind of okay with her having the freedom to just be a goofball and then just maul people in the ring. Yuka's music sounds like Dance Dance Revolution. Once Billie Starkz is working full-time, she and Skye Blue have to become a tag team and pull a shocking upset to win the inaugural AEW women's tag team belts. Having Smart Mark as the mouthpiece for plain yogurt with abs and Ari Daivari is a good idea. Dante really does defy gravity, but he needs to realize that he can lay in his forearms and punches a little more snug all the time, not just when BCC are laying them in. Not sure how Darius (with the schwa sound Riccobani-style) got busted open. I want much more of the Outrunners. I DEMAND an Outrunners-Workhorsemen tag. Anyway, Menard's reactions to the whole match really made it. Speaking of Action Andretti, I'm not saying Blake Christian deserves Action Andretti's push...oh wait, maybe I am. Claudio is so great, and I may have to track down Cesaro-Big Show. Time to go watch the Billie Starkz-DMD match since I'm fucking iced into my hotel in Abilene for like 3 days and also on my fourth beer.
  8. Polaroids are being made again, they’re super hip with Gen Z teens
  9. To be totally honest, when I saw the thread title I assumed that the post was going to say that Jayme-Emi was such an obvious #1. I am glad that I didn't have to choose between that and the tribute match, which I thought was amazing on its own merits.
  10. All my exposure to Emi was loving her through Dark/Elevation along with just knowing her history, so last night was fucking wild and amazing. I don't know how she can go back to being the beloved Queen Emi of YouTube, who heats up the mid-card women on their way to title match squashes.
  11. Too funny, too true. Have I mentioned that the reason I started watching AEW was because a TV writer and wrestling fan (and DVDVR lurker/possible poster) I followed in Twitter (Owen Ellickson) retweeted a tweet that confirmed the rumor that Tony Khan had been a long-time DVDVR poster?
  12. I don't think Bischoff liked the Horsemen because they weren't his creation (and I know he and Flair didn't like each other), and he also didn't like that they continued to be way over with the fans no matter what dumb angles they got stuck with.
  13. I saw the other thread locked and was like "what in the world could possibly have happened with the 10 people who post about AEW YouTube to get that locked?"
  14. If those are 4 star matches then 4 star ratings are meaningless.
  15. The only wrestling T-shirt I have ever bought was a Monday Night Jericho shirt that I don't know what happened to. I know I was always talking him up on the RSPW/-M. I loved when he did the Man of 1,004 holds and just kept alternating random things with "armbar" and then used the Dr. Seuss reference (Moss Covered Three-Handled Flying Gradunzle). And of course Ralphus.
  16. One thing I liked about the commentary at the start of the Briscoe tribute was someone (probably Ian) saying that people grieve in different ways and on different timelines.
  17. Jay Lethal's visible sobbing got to me big time. Fantastic match. Couldn't pay much attention to the rest of the show due to stupid work. Also, get well soon Dean! Sending healing vibes.
  18. Did you see this article by our own Phil Schneider? https://www.theringer.com/2023/1/22/23566293/keiji-muto-great-muta-pro-wrestling-legacy
  19. I couldn't remember her name last night but I thought that would be a fun tag team. Shalonce needs to add some kind of big sweeping operatic backhand to her moveset.
  20. Is that one of the most wholesome ribs of all time?
  21. Really great write-up of Bryan-Bandido, added even more color to one of my favorite recent matches.
  22. I would definitely like to see her on my TV/laptop again (I'm still trying to settle down). A very unique character and then the weird ballet based wrestling style to match, made for an interesting match.
  23. If you haven't seen the Athena-Shafir Dark match, it's stiff and borderline uncooperative in all the best ways without any blood or special hardcore spots.
  24. Teasing that he's naturally a Sports Entertainer and is going to turn on Starks for the JAS?
  25. I'm glad others liked this show. I actually liked Cage-Mack, and I don't generally like Cage, so that was good. I thought the rest ranged from fine to there to mediocre to awful (Jade squash). Dynamite is looking good again, and I will be interested to see Brian-Bryan just to see how Dragon handles a relatively athletic roid monster big muscle guy.
