  1. As someone who was in his teenage years when the Goldberg streak was going on, at least in my circle of friends Nash pretty much seemed to be the right choice. Was never WCW champion, was big enough and protected enough to seem like a legit threat to him, he fit most of the criteria that made sense to us. More importantly, and I can't say if this was just us or was something beyond that... but by that point we were rooting for Goldberg to lose. We still liked him but at some point just before this (it may have been because of the DDP match actually) we shifted on cheering on this conquering indestructible hero to hoping for someone to do the impossible. That's why I think those saying "he should have just not lost" are a bit mistaken, or blinded by how utterly stupid the aftermath to all this was. He was only champ for so many months, but the streak had gone on for ages at a time when everything was moving in fast-forward. I'm not saying he had to drop it on that show, but I wonder if he held it even six more months if we'd be looking back and criticizing them for not taking the belt off him until too late.
  2. I don't believe anyone said it was a good gimmick. The point is that she did a markedly poor job at it to the degree they wouldn't even air it. If she picked it up poorly, or if she mailed it in hard because she didn't care, either one reflects very poorly on her. If the company is scared that she can't pick up anything out of a narrow comfort zone, or that if she is asked to do something she doesn't like (and this will happen to anyone in WWE for any stretch of time, hell to most wrestlers in general) she will just do a shitty job of it... would you invest much in that person when there are others who would love the opportunity and don't carry that baggage? People end up in situations like this in all walks of life all the time. You either start over elsewhere or work your way past it. She's lucky she is in a somewhat thin division, if she works hard and doesn't have any issues she'll get her chance sooner than it otherwise would have come. And if something else comes up before then (or god forbid another injury, she has had terrible injury timing) then nothing of worth would have been lost or jeopardized.
  3. Reports are that Emmalina died as much from Emma not really committing to it as much as simply not being good at it. Given how one could say something similar about her Dancin' Emma run on the main roster... WWE would be pretty dumb to invest much in her at this stage. Fair or not she likely needs to put in a steady stream of good work and effort before they'll be comfortable using her as anything other than a background player.
  4. If I was Chiesa I'd be thanking god that Yamasaki made that bad call as he was likely unconscious in the next few seconds and now he can claim he was robbed. He should make a big show of wanting to fight Lee again and then go fight someone else, it did not look like he had much of a shot.
  5. I almost bought the entire Hickman Avengers run >_> Settled for the Vision thing everyone talks up, got tossed an amazon credit for a free digital TPB from a list of 100 so I picked up the big collection of some of Priest's Black Panther run. And yes, Hickman's FF run was exceptional.
  6. I've said this before, but as bad as the booking around Bayley has been on Raw it's not like she's been doing much better herself. She has been dreadful on the mic and mediocre in the ring. The booking has been worse, but if this is the best she has to offer on the main roster I'm not sure that good booking would be enough.
  7. I hold the opinion that while the phoenix splash is a great move, there should probably never be three of them in three different matches on the same show.
  8. Yeah, I think at this point we should just accept that anytime Orton is by a table something bad will happen to someone. In addition to all those above ones I think the one time Seth curbstomped him on the table he happened to land face-first on like a pen. Orton is a bit... let's say dry as a wrestler but is generally more than safe, he just has some sort of table-based curse. Also worth remembering is that Kennedy's suplex on him was not a one-time deal that resulted in him being fired out of the blue. He'd already been blamed for hurting Cena, bothered a bunch of opponents with his "flail my arms whenever you try to pick me up" deal, and dropped Orton on his shoulder he just got back from injury on. Add in his horrifically timed wellness violation and a few other minor things and he was not long for the WWE world.
  9. I am... torn on this. On one hand, it is swell. On the other hand, if it is as they say and works retroactively it points towards DLC practices that feel a bit sketchy. It would be hard to say for sure before it is released but it suggests that at least a significant portion of it is already in the game and has been since launch, with it being locked out until one pays for it. That is bad if true. It is also possible that the way the game automatically saves every so often results in a permanent record of the locations at those times, and they found out after the fact that you could make it into a map tracker at a later date. I'd be more comfortable if that feature was in a free patch and the rest had to be paid for.

    Hap & Leonard

Great to hear that this will get another season. Life has been hectic enough the past month or so that I'm only halfway through season 2, but it has been consistently great so far.
  11. Pre-New Day Big E, while not a failure, was sort of in that odd Jack Swagger spot where he was either being actively pushed or more or less vanished. He was doing nothing before they decided to make him IC champ, and then after that he didn't do all that much again. Heck I think all the New Day folks ended up in limbo for some months before reappearing.
  12. I've said this before, but I think NXT actually hurts a number of people who end up on the main roster due to the way things are currently set up. Bayley is the easiest example: she got to start off their as a lovable goof, she got to naturally build up and expand her gimmick while she became a more credible contender. By the time she gets to her big title matches the crowd has gotten the chance to watch her grow and are invested in her. She has her title run, gets called up to the main roster and... she's stuck in a bit of a no (wo)man's land. All of that build and growth she's had has not been seen by enough of the audience for it to really work, yet it has been seen by enough people that they just can't start at step one all over again either. This has happened with a number of acts. No one had any idea how to react to Dancin' Emma, American Alpha (who got over some due to their work) were hurt by no one really having an idea what their deal was, hell even Sami was confusing being billed as an underdog while being presented as a legit threat day 1 thanks to holding the NXT title. WWE still knows that watching wrestlers climb the ranks and grow as characters is a big thing in getting people to buy into them, they've just stuck most of it on a show that only a small section of their audience watches. It makes NXT stronger (also rarely having to balance pushing champs back down the card while still keeping them looking strong makes it easier to book) and helps the talent get some buzz on arrival, but I think long-term it has legit drawbacks. So yeah, I think the NXT talent that doesn't get the full build or comes up with characters or gimmicks that don't need as much build or backstory benefit because of this.
  13. I've seen a few comments here and there saying how WWE has ruined Bayley, or how it isn't her fault and I just have to say something: She's been actively poor if not outright bad on Raw. The booking around her isn't good but we've all seen tons of cases where that is the case sadly, even then if the person is decent you get some sort of sense of that. There is none of that with Bayley. She is bad on the mic even by the standards of the women's division. She's usually having mediocre to poor matches (I liked the Charlotte title switch, I think it was mainly due to Charlotte). Most of her offense is bad, I actually don't mind the belly to belly finish as it is one of the only moves she throws that looks halfway decent. There is a lot of truth to the thought that certain acts are in a way hurt by NXT as moving them onto a new show without the backstory and build just doesn't work. I think Bayley might be a good example of this. Still... even ignoring all the stuff outside of her control she has been bad at all the things she does control. Better booking would be nice but if she crashes and burns a lot of it will be her fault. Blame the booking too, but I think using it to excuse how subpar she has been isn't exactly fair. Quite frankly I'm not sure if better booking would be enough without her improving dramatically.
  14. You don't understand, that spot happened rather early in the match. I think the match went like 25 minutes or so and that was well within the first ten. BTW, I was actually more mad about Aries not really working over his wrecked face rather than him agreeing to do that to poor Nigel. I think he did like one knee drop to it during the remainder of the match and... hell, if a guy is bleeding that noticeably you really should call an audible at some point.
  15. Yeah, with Romero he's the guy with all the gifts who doesn't quite show up throughout the duration of his fights. When he's dialed in he may murder GSP but I could see GSP combining movement and a jab (regardless of reach issues) and Romero passively letting him do so for too long. Jacare would likely just maul him in a brutal fashion, and I think everyone involved knows this. That is why I'm kinda cautious about what the fallout will be should GSP win as would they allow that fight to be made even if he ends up being the legit top contender?
  16. My thought, beyond how much this sucks for all the top fighters at middleweight, is what happens if GSP wins which I think is a legit possibility. Him moving up to fight Bisping, who is a weight class bigger and champ but has traditionally been about the #7-10 guy in the division, is one thing. Him having to fight any of the other top four guys in the division is something else entirely. What does he even do against say Jacare? I'm not entirely sure he sticks up at 185 for that in which case chaos. I get the whole money fight mentality and won't argue against it from a business perspective, but I'd be lying if I said I don't miss the days when the titles were less subject to the whims of them. 145, 155 and now 185 are just looking like messes.
  17. The turnbuckle exploding really should have been the finish to the Braun/Roman match at Fastlane as it'd give Braun an impressive win while protecting Roman with the whole "the turnbuckle came loose and nearly decapitated him" deal.
  18. So basically it depends entirely on how one holds the controller, and is unlikely to be fixed via an update as it would hurt the battery life. That's... not great, but fortunately Nintendo does hardware revisions from time to time.
