  1. wow. thought that was an early stoppage until the replay. crazy comeback tko for ortega
  2. damn penne took a beating. nice ko win for dariush. made vick look like an amateur
  3. mutapcic deserved that decision, regardless of rogen verbally fellating Casey
  4. holy mother of god that fight was fucking nuts. bothguys put everything they had into it
  5. ha, i did that a couple of months back and the heel manager got in my face and said "your chant is misguided" with a puzzled look
  6. so, i finally got around to reading Grant Morrison's "Multiversity" storyline in its entirety yesterday. i had previously only read Multiversity #1 and the Pax Americana issue. i was going to go into an issue-by-issue breakdown, but i'm too lazy to do that. All i will say is that i enjoyed it, despite it's flaws. The Pax Americana issue is pretty spectacular. a tremendous homage to Watchmen, but a solid story told on its own as well. what really irks me is that here you have Morrison, a writer who is damn near worshipped by a certain segment of fans, coming up with TONS of ideas for characters, creating worlds and conflicts, and just crafting this realm where all sorts of stories can be told. And then.....nothing. I mean, we're like a year or two past this thing, and ZERO threads from it have been tugged at. He left so many openings for other writers to springboard off of, so many story opportunities for the powers that be to exploit, and DC just acts like it doesn't exist. such a missed opportunity.
  7. it kinda sounds like exactly the way to pull you in, since you're getting 4 books and all four are the iconic characters. pre-Rebirth, my only DC title was Grayson. post-Rebirth, my only DC title will be Nightwing (which is bimonthly, so 2x the money for DC). i will see how the Batgirl series goes. if it is teenage hpister Barbara, i'm still out. if it's more like an actual superhero book, i may pick that up too.
  8. when i heard that show announced i was looking forward to it. i was hoping it was stars from the early days. i'll probably check out the Din Thomas and Shonie Carter episodes. was there a big demand for a Noah Inhofer or Tait Fletcher return?
  9. warning: long winded post ahead. it deals with my pro wrestling viewership and Owen Hart. i'm going to spoiler tag it for anyone that doesn't want to deal with one guy's emotions.
  10. oh, that's definitely the truth. i just thought it was odd that the only thing he ever liked better than WWE was TNA, for however brief it was.
  11. a friend of mine has watched Raw live every Monday since 1993. he pretty much never watches SmackDown! and will catch the occasional PPV but isn't hooked on them. In the past couple of years, he starts watching Raw halfway thru (via DVR) and fast forwards so much he is caught up to realtime by the end. yet he still watches it every single week. but he's got weird taste in wrestling. he's never seen an ECW match, hated WCW during the Nitro/Monday Night Wars era, but, for a time in 2005-2006, preferred TNA to WWE (but still never missed an ep).
  12. wow. did not see that coming. while i'm interested in seeing how it plays out, i sure as fuck won't be buying anything that further taints said property.
  13. so, i just read this article on sherdog: http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/With-Knee-at-Full-Strength-Georgi-Karakhanyan-Ready-for-Pat-Curran-at-Bellator-155-105231 and it upset me. he's been "on the cusp" of a title shot for almost two years? he WON the WSOF FW title in december of 2013 and lost it in june of 2014 (his first defense) then he joined Bellator, where in this run he is 1-1, and coming off a loss. hell, his overall Bellator record is 3-3. i like the guy, but let's not pretend that he's some worldbeater that has never been given a shot. he's been in (and lost) in two previous Bellator tournaments. Granted, in both tourneys he lost to the eventual winner, but don't play that off like he's never had an opportunity. if the hype you're trying to build is based on straight up bullshit, then your reporting stinks. and i won't even get into the folly of calling Bellator "one of the world's most powerful MMA promotions" i mean, it's probably technically true, but in the same way that TNA is a powerful pro wrestling promotion.
  14. still waiting for word on CM Punk's UFC debut. i've heard talk of 202 being the new target, but i can't help but wonder how much the hype has cooled off.
  15. i really liked the infinite crisis logo they debuted in 2005. obviously the bullet logo was classic before i was born so that was ok too. the "peel" logo i never hated, but i didn't love either. this new logo reminds me of something that could be put on a ring, like a Green Lantern ring. it would look good on a tshirt too, so i think they've found a good one. the font on the "D" looks familiar, does anyone know which title the font was used from?
  16. fair question. i have enjoyed most of Mark Millar's work that i've read, but he and i are in fact not the same person. then again, i've only read his indie work: Kick-Ass, Wanted, and Nemesis besides this. i just looked it up and he wrote Marvel 1985 also? i didn't understand that story so either it sucked or i just don't appreciate it. and no, i am not Scottish.
  17. this has absolutely nothing to do with your quote, but i just wanted to point out: are we seriously in 2016 and both Shogun Rua and Lil Nogueira got a victory? and both fought a younger fighter than themselves. and both were underdogs. i don't even understand mma sometimes.
  18. i just re-read the Civil War comic event. just the main series, 1-7, so no spinoffs or anything. i quite enjoyed it. i will always be a firm pro-Cap guy, so obviously i sided with him. Plus, i'm a rebel at heart and don't trust the government to do ANYTHING right. can you imagine trusting a Congress that can only seem to agree that they all need raises with EVERY SUPERPOWER IN THE NATION? gods, that's horrifying. anyway, i like that Tony descended further and further into madness. Cyber-Thor killing Goliath being the tipping point for many, specifically Spider-Man, was absolutely on-point. The way Cap differed from Iron Man's use of villains/Punisher was done perfectly. The split of the Fantastic 4 was picture perfect too, especially the reuniting at the end. Steve Rogers surrendering at the end was fantastically done also. He never gave up the ideal, but he realized it was an unwinnable war and was causing more harm than good.
  19. so essentially they just got rid of their Heavyweight and Lightweight champions? that is truly bizarre. Brooks has won like 8 in a row or something. and isn't Minakov still undefeated? you couple this with their treatment of Askren (the undefeated then-Welterweight Champion) and i really question the sanity of the people running the promotion.
  20. i quite enjoyed Cap3: Civil War. i find it the least of the three Captain America movies, but it definitely handled the large cast of Avengers better than Age of Ultron. i'd rank it on the higher side, but overall probably right about 5 or 6. have never been a big Zemo fan, so the difference between the movies and comics didn't enter my mind at all. Black Panther was a great addition to the ensemble and came off very well. Spider-Man, as mentioned, killed it. Ant-Man fanboying out was fantastic. Paul Rudd is awesome.
  21. i was a bit underwhelmed as well. my LCS changed ownership during the past year, and there were a ton of releases we didn't get. whether that's because the new guy didn't order them, or he got shorted, i don't even have a guess, but the selection was pretty minimal. He also did next to nothing to promote it, only hanging a small poster by the door a couple weeks ago. Also, he opened early but didn't tell anyone, and then booked a Magic: the Gathering tournament for all afternoon, thus leaving little room for the comic book fans. Just a bit disappointing after the last couple of years seeing kids and parents all over in there, checking out not only the free books, but there'd always be a Batman and/or Spider-Man display set up. Not many of the books looked very appealing to me anyway, but i generally pick up the new Tick comic every year. i did grab Civil War II, Suicide Squad, the Valiant sampler, and ROM. the ROM comic was pretty decent. Haven't read Suicide Squad yet. Valiant had some pretty interesting setups that i most likely won't follow thru with. Civil War II leaves me intrigued. i'll probably end up picking up the series. damn you marvel!
  22. Bigfoot is beyond done. there's no way he keeps his job after this, is there? he's 1-4-1 in his last six, which also includes a failed PED test. as for Arlovski, i think this was his last best chance to get another shot at the heavyweight crown. He's now lost 2 in a row, both by TKO stoppage. He's getting up there in years. I can see him still sticking around a while, facing lower top-10 guys and doing perfectly fine, but it's just a matter of time. I'm still hoping that we can get a AA-CroCop match somewhere before both guys are completely finished (i expect CC makes a return in Japan at some point).
