  1. the local theater is playing the first two eps of luke cage tonight. got my seat and popcorn, can't wait for it to start
  2. i kind of wish that the PPV was in like 3 weeks but WWE bought TNA today. Then they used those 3 weeks to make a TNA reunion show of sorts. AJ, Joe, Daniels, Amazing Red, MCMGs, Jay Lethal, the hardcore midgets, Scott D'Amore and a version of Team Canada, etc. bring back the six sided ring. Have America's Most Wanted reform for one night only, but by the end Storm turns on Harris and we get Beer Money again. Hell, a Jarrett & Global Force run-in would be fantastic. I feel like people would watch that and flip their shit, getting all excited about old TNA footage on the WWE Network. of course, they'd tune in for one or two old shows and be like "oh yeah now i remember why this sucked so much ass in the first place"
  3. i enjoyed the RIZIN show. most of the guys in the tournament were new to me, so i had little to no expectations, but i was definitely entertained for the entirety. i don't get the appeal with Gabi Garcia. her match at the first RIZIN show last new year's was just atrocious. this was better, but the girl she fought looked to have zero experience on the ground. i've already seen people calling for Gabi to be brought into the UFC, and i'm just over here shaking my head. perhaps i missed it, but who is the 16th entrant into the Grand Prix? they had six first round fights, and Wanderlei gets a bye. there's still room for one more person to get a bye into the second round but i didn't hear any sort of announcement about it.
  4. i'm not a fan of the idea of three title fights, because inherently one of them gets glossed over. whether it be the first one, or the least exciting match-up, or whatever, it just makes that one division look less important than the others. but hell. i always watch all of the fights on a PPV card. i tune in to fight pass for the early prelims and i enjoy the show until midnight (central) and have no complaints. we've seen boring 25 minute fights (title or not) and we've seen a hell of a lot more boring 15 minute fights. mma be crazy.
  5. started reading "Ready Player One" after having it for over a year. about a third of the way in and really enjoying it so far.
  6. yes, Barao looked much better in this fight than he has recently. but i still don't see him getting anywhere near title contention at 145. at this point i can't even see him approaching top 10. i still feel like that first loss to Dillashaw just decimated him emotionally.
  7. i must admit, i totally marked out for the koppu kick. my buddy (who's obviously not a wrestling fan) looked at me like i was crazy.
  8. At welterweight or middleweight? That's not going to go well. Stupid question: why not? to put is simply, there's just WAY too much skill level at those mid-weight classes. At heavyweight if you have a strong proficiency in one field, you can use that to win matches or at least have a close fight. At MW/WW, all of the guys at the top are just so skilled and well rounded that you would be out of place. Plenty of people still incorporate wrestling and riding and that, but it's just one aspect. you also need the jiu-jitsu. you also need the kick boxing.
  9. is Ric Flair's first title win available in full? that could be something for them to look for, for historical purposes.
  10. i watched all of the "Evolution of Punk" episodes, and, while CM Punk has come miles in his training, it has really made me think that he is losing this fight. i know that's opposite of what these things are made for, but to me it just didn't look like he was ready for this.
  11. i can't think of a more perfect heel move than this. excellent analogy.
  12. for me personally, i have little/no connection with a lot of that stuff so it doesn't interest me. i had an investment into the Last Battle of Atlanta match (admittedly entirely because of the hype), but past that, not a whole lot caught my attention. i hope to really dig into 1980s NWA/territory stuff in a few years, but i'm just so swamped with other stuff right now i don't have an opportunity to fully embrace it. NWAOnDemand will absolutely be a big source for me when that time comes. i really hope it is able to hold on and be successful for that reason alone. Besides that, everyone should give it a shot because it does have an awesome lineup!
  13. Roddy Piper has told the story of when he wrestled in (i think) California, vs. Chavo Guerrero, and he came out to apologize for whatever happened last week. As an apology, he was going to play the Mexican National Anthem on his bagpipes. So he started playing "La Cucaracha". i would personally LOVE to see that for the fan reaction alone. in 1996, WCW participated in a World Wrestling Peace Festival (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Wrestling_Peace_Festival). the WCW matches have never been available AFAIK, i'd like to see them. speaking of WCW, they did a "Festival de Lucha" taping in 1999ish that has never been released. they also did some "Pay-Per-Listens" in '97/'98 that i would be interested in. The concept was not much different than the Network Specials that WWE does now. PPV quality lineup without the PPV availability.
  14. not sure if serious. the Last Battle of Atlanta is reportedly one of the best (and bloodiest) cage matches of all time. Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer battled it out in an enclosed cage in October of 1983. no footage has EVER been released from it (not on GCW/WCW tv at the time, not on any compilations, etc.) and it is reported to be a fantastic fight and fitting end for their near two-year feud. there have been discussions for YEARS that footage did not exist. Or did exist, but Ole Anderson destroyed it. Or that only one man had it but would never release it. and on and on. the fact that we are mere days from literally the rarest and most requested match in history showing up is quite the accomplishment. link: a KayFabe Memories thread discussing the video availability of the match (from 2009): http://www.infinitecore.ca/superstar/index.php?km_km_ict=3c9e27c589db2a1b7195853080d30a0a&threadid=63013&page=0#pager
  15. last battle of atlanta? holy shit i can't wait for tuesday
  16. i'd still like for Bader to get a crack at champ DC at some point. His best bet is as a late replacement, but i think he's been consistent enough that he'd slot in well enough. a Bader/Gus match would be pretty compelling tho.
  17. these overseas cards mess with my internal timing. i always forget that they happen in mid-afternoon, so i tend to stumble onto the results. i guess i'll be watching this tomorrow.
  18. i just saw a trailer for this and came to post the same thing. looks WAY better than i would have expected, and it looks like it's releasing worldwide in February. i REALLY hope we get a blu-ray release around this time as i'm pretty damn sure that my town won't bring it to theaters.
  19. the only article i read on CBR is the Legends Revealed series every week. had a hell of a time finding it.
  20. i only heard the "Phil 'CM Punk' Brooks" thing as an option, i never heard one way or the other if that was 100% what they were going to do. that said, anything can happen between now and fight time. Personally, i'm just curious what his entrance music will be. Will he stick with "Cult of Personality"?
  21. was surprised that Miller got the win, i scored it fairly easily for Lauzon. no complaints tho. amazing switch kick high kick from PVZ to get the KO. that was a thing of beauty
  22. so, behind the times obviously, but finally caught Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. Really enjoyed it. He does such tremendous character work and (especially) dialogue. Don't see myself rewatching it anytime soon, but you never know. the only film of his that i haven't enjoyed has been kill Bill. i keep thinking i need to revisit it, but i'm (still) holding out hope for a complete version, instead of two halves.
  23. yeah, Watts had a bit of a mini-run. he was pretty decent too, if uninspired. then again, he never really had much to work with (except the Gambler, who is awesome!)
