FEBRUARY 2018 WRESTLING DISCUSSION.
(BP) replied to The Natural's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
In a vacuum it's kind of dumb, but Sting/Hogan is one of the only things TNA actually did right as far as storytelling, so I'd say with that continuity added to the tapestry of Sting/NWO it makes more sense. -
They do. He's either being a pain in the ass while they're trying to promote the biggest show of the year or they're making it appear that way to play off the last time he negotiated a new contract. Brock's business. Roman's not going to get nailed to the wall for any PED stuff. I don't think the match is really in jeopardy, and even if it was they have plenty of other viable matches to close the show if Braun has to be subbed in last minute.

The Cena stuff works for me because it's a story that doesn't make sense in previous years but does as we've watched time finally catch up with him recently. When he was cutting the promo on the post show it was jarring how much older he looks in closeup. That being said it would have been much neater to just have Taker show up at the Rumble to get his revenge on Roman only to be eliminated by Cena. It's simple and it fits Taker's recent characterization as a petty old sore loser.

The thing with Kevin Smith is he's not just writing that because he had a near death experience. He won the lottery of life in a really crazy and unusual way, and then he found out his wildest dreams coming true still didn't make him happy. So, he set out to reinvent himself and what he did for a living and became an omnipresent media personality who acts as a mascot for making and just loving art. He probably really could die happy today because he's followed his bliss, and in a way that sets his family up for life. I'm happy he's going to keep going of course. I grew up with the movies, but I really admire the person he is now.

That was a hindsight is 20/20 scenario. No one expected the match to be that hot and Roman to win the crowd over. It seemed like a smart way out of a booking conundrum. Obviously it's caused nothing but headaches for them since. It really is the clear self consciousness of the booking more than who they're pushing that's their problem. Either have the balls to unabashedly push whoever you want to build the company around straight to the moon or don't pull the trigger.

It is a great icebreaker.

Herzog's done a Tom Cruise movie and Rick and Morty in the last couple of years, so there's an outside chance he would narrate a Five Feet of Moral Ambiguity documentary for the network.
-
Cena's giving a pretty great broken man promo on the post show right now.

That Thelma movie is a Norwegian LGBTQ psychokinetic horror fantasy (you know, that old chestnut.) I was disappointed to find out it wasn't the beginning of a rebooted Thelma and Louise universe franchise.

It's the same purpose Miz serves when new faces come up, he just does it infinitely better.

Sure, but they are just going to feud with Dolph as soon as they get there.

"No I'm not Green Lantern Fan, you lunkhead security guard. He wears a Green Lantern shirt and this is clearly a Black Lantern Corps shirt. I want you to go get your supervisor, and I will be timing you!" -
Yeah, if I see a guy in a leather vest I know he's cruising or about to tell me a story about having to beat someone to death with their own shoes.

I mean, there was a period before the conquistadors landed there. -
You would think writers didn't do it at least twelve times a year for decades. I'm guessing it's a mixture of WB probably deciding a female writer/director was better, Whedon cutting his losses and getting out of DC movie productions in a self effacing way, and his awareness that scrutiny about him maybe not being such a great feminist would increase again.

C'mon Drew, say his name! -
They had Cena headline with Orton for six months straight, and that was pre-network. They'll figure out a way to spin their wheels with Roman on top until they switch the title.

Anyway, RIP Reverend. -
If they manage to make this movie without killing Madeline I'd be shocked. They're probably breaking the story by throwing darts at a wheel of death scenarios.

It's like Hall going in as Razor. Everyone knows the background and he'll get to say whatever he wants for 25 minutes. And the HoF video packages are a kind of advertisement for the network, so it makes sense to frame it that way. Is JJ the most current/modern era (i.e. not an Inoki or Fujinami deal) guy that they've put in where they're missing almost two decades of tape on that they don't own?
