Thomas Bugg Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 How about some LeVert and Heavy D? ...and The O'Jays 1
J.T. Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 MORE LEVERT~! Just Coolin' spent a lot of time in my road trip CD rotation. 2
Burgundy LaRue Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 IIRC, the Boy George song was originally written for Bobby Brown, but he refused it. BG was looking to revive his career and someone mentioned working with Teddy Riley, who was the go-to producer/songwriter at the time. 2
Thomas Bugg Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 I listened to that Just Coolin' album religiously when it came out!
Burgundy LaRue Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Guy is really under-appreciated now. Aaron Hall's voice was no joke. But he didn't write, and one R. Kelly did, with the voice to match. As it is: I had the Public Announcement album on cassette. Alas, before R. went into marrying teenagers/Piss on You mode: 3
J.T. Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 VIIIIIIIIIBBBEEEEE~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yeah, Aaron Hall had major pipes. I was sad that his solo career never really took off.
Burgundy LaRue Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Gossip-y tidbit: Aaron Hall was involved with hip hop model Gloria Velez. They had a child, and Aaron's been sketchy on his child support. The romance was quite rocky--rumors of abuse, Gloria getting a way-too-specifc tattoo for Aaron. I liked it better when I was a naive teenager and thought most of these talented folks were nice people, too. 2
The Comedian Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 This jam was the unexpected surprise of the Menace II Society sdtk. 1
Burgundy LaRue Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Hi-Five may be one of the most tragic stories ever in music history. 1

The Comedian Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Hi-Five may be one of the most tragic stories ever in music history. I had to go hit wikipedia to see what you meant, and SHIT...one of em stabbed his wife to death and another died huffing freon?
Burgundy LaRue Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Yeah. Russell Neal recently stabbed his wife with their kids in the house, and lead singer Tony Thompson was found dead next to an air conditioning unit in 2007. An original member, Toriano Easley, was imprisoned because he shot an undercover officer who came into Easley's apartment--something about thinking Easley was a drug dealer. Another member, Roderick Clark, was paralyzed after a car accident. Several years ago, Treston Irby was shot five times at a club. He survived with no major injuries. The group had an Unsung episode (urban version of Behind the Music) recently on TVOne. I didn't watch it, but I'm sure it was sad viewing.
J.T. Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Unsung is so depressing and it always makes me want to throw myself off of a cliff, but my girlfriend insists we watch it. I had to leave the room during the Angela Bofill episode. 1
Charro! Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Just a few New Jack Swing tracks: Teddy Riley was a huge part of the New Jack Swing sound with Bobby Brown, Keith Sweat, Guy, Blackstreet, working with MJ among others. I think you could overlook 'Remember the Time' as a New Jack Swing track but it definitely has that sound. 2
The Comedian Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 hey no one posted my favorite Guy jam yet... also we gotta get this one in... 1
Thomas Bugg Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 I'm resurrecting this dead ass thread for a song that I heard on Music Choice today. Damn this song is SLAMMIN!!!! Just shows that The Jacksons didn't need MJ to jam. 1
Thomas Bugg Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 And this is a jazz song, but it sounds just like New Jack Swing
Burgundy LaRue Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I heard this for the first time in years today. . . 1
