For a guy throughout stretches of his career characterized for not having heart in tough situations, Edson Barboza just showed all the heart in the world to come back and win against a tough young fighter in Sodiq Yusuff.

It's weird cause Almeida is probably best when he's super aggressive. Maybe this is indicative of what his approach might be against guys as he moves up the ladder. I guess it's win this one and tried to look better next time. I dunno.

I certainly don't think it was a "Yeah let's give this guy what he wants: Ciryl Gane." Kinda performances.

He's probably fighting Gane next. The HW division is pretty shallow. The other option would be the winner of Pavlovich vs. Aspinall next week.

If they're going to make the interim title holder defend, which is weird to me, wouldn't it make since to push for Stipe? I mean, if you have an interim champion why run Stipe vs. Jones for the title when Jones comes back? Like are we looking at a potential card next fall, where there are two different heavyweight title holders defending against different opponents on the same night? 🤪

Heavyweight is a fucking mess.

I think it's quite possible that next week's winner fights either Gane or Almeida in April/May for the interim title and Jones/Stipe fight around then with the unification coming later in 2024.

I mean you could always have the chicanery we had with the LHW title with the vacant title staying vacant cause it ended in a draw.
