I'm very close to being out on the show, as well. I've got maybe one or two left in me.As an episode of AGENTS OF SHIELD, I thought "Eye-Spy" was the best of the 3 post-pilot episodes, but at this point, "an episode of AGENTS OF SHIELD" is such a fundamentally flawed endeavour, that's not saying much. Bottom line: The team stinks. Coulson doesn't work as the lead, and the rest of the characters suffer from either poor casting or being redundant.Everybody wants to know why they junked Melinda May's reluctance to get into combat so early, and I think the answer is simple: They realized Ming-Na Wen stinks at playing the stoic, ruminant badass. She brings nothing to the show, in fact actively brings it down, any time she's not kicking ass. Seriously, she's terrible. I nominate her to be the first Joss Murder of the main cast. At least if she dies, Coulson can feel bad about getting her back into action and stop being Mr. Glib all the time, and, you know, maybe she'll have had some positve impact on the show that way.One of Fitz and Simmons can die, too. I don't know why there had to be two of them to begin with. It's a fucking comic book show. Just have one super-smart person who possesses all world knowledge as your "scientist" character.Yeah, I swear they casted this show from a Sears catalog. Everyone looks almost the same, all good looking but not overwhelmingly so. If you were to watch the pilot and then replace the entire cast with a team of other brunette unknowns, how long would it take you to notice. They are just too generic, if I didn't spend so much time commenting on it here, I don't think I would know their names.So true. But I guess that shouldn't be surprising. Casting has never been Whedon's strength. With the exception of FIREFLY, which was loaded, his track record is pretty spotty, at best, and he definitely has his types. The guy who plays Ward (hold on let me look this up........Brett Dalton) is exactly the sort of anonymously handsome "leading man" type that Joss has been casting for...ever.Maybe it made sense to cast like that 10 or 15 years ago, but it's sad that we're here in 2013, when the doors have never been more wide open to cast interesting people, and he's still using his cookie cutter.It's really almost an accident when a relatively unkown great actor gets cast on a Joss show. His strength has always been cultivating the characters to work within the limitations of the sub-par actors he casts. Unfortunately, he has minimal involvement with this show, which means we're just stuck with the bland actors and little chance of that spontaneous epiphany when he realizes, "Oh, Alexis Denisoff can do *that*."

I would easily bump Malkovich for Kilmer. Of course, that may just be hindsight talking. Both Malkovich in IN THE LINE OF FIRE and Jones in THE FUGITIVE seem like lesser performances today, mainly because both guys would go on to give the same performance in similar roles many times over in the years that followed.

The problem with season 3 wasn't so much the ending, because it was a fairly appropriate ending, so much as that it was just SO digressive with a bunch of story threads being introduced and then going nowhere. Everyone remembers the theatre troupe, but there was also the matter of Odell, as well as the Earp brothers. They all showed up, got a lot of screen time, and then shuffled off with none of it meaning much. And a lot of well-liked regulars got their screen time cut due to these false-starts. I think most people would have preferred the final season to have a sharper focus on the regulars. (Doc Cochran isn't in the final episode AT ALL.) Anyway... He gets overlooked a lot because his run was so short, but Keith Carradine is tremendous as Buffalo Bill.

Triple H's Twin really wanted them to do this show.

That's one of the greatest fights ever put to film. Like watching two kodiaks locking up.

I feel similarly. I don't know if I can really make a solid case for it being "better" than a lot of other shows, but for me, it's second only to BREAKING BAD in terms of pure enjoyment. I've rewatched more episodes of DEADWOOD than THE WIRE, probably 5 to 1.I could queue up an episode and listen to those guys talk any night of the week.

I think you just figured out what was ridiculous about it. It was a horribly contrived scenario.

I finally caught up on the 2nd and 3rd episodes of SHIELD. It's very alright, although it definitely comes across as offbrand Whedon, which is what I was afraid of. His brother and sister-in-law do a decent impression, but it is so obviously not the same thing. Got a laugh out of Coulson going on a stealth infiltration mission in a business suit.

Those are two very different people.

I though it was okay-ish. The roof collapse was ridiculous, but at least they went for the gusto and made it ridiculous in an over-the-top way you've never seen before (I'm not a zombie buff, but "zombies falling from the sky" is a new one for me), as opposed to the countless times they've been ridiculous in boring, commonplace ways in the past. And Nicotero was in his glory directing this episode, delivering money shot after money shot of outrageous gore effects. If nothing else, this series has served as an endowment for make-up and effects artists in the field of goo.
