  1. It's a Vita kind of week in the US on PS+: Free - Machinarium (Vita) - Was free on the PS3 a few weeks ago, still haven't played it yet myself but I've heard it's good. Discounts - Spelunky (Vita) - $12. I think this was free before but can't remember. - Draw Slasher (Vita) - $3. Another weird indy action game. - Lots of other discounts with the highlight probably being Journey for $3.75. I didn't like the game but everybody else did.
  2. That would explain the 13 hits he gave up to the Tigers over the weekend. Sucks for him that he's going to out awhile
  3. Are we counting televised house shows? Backing went an hour with Valentine and Muraco...
  4. Pic of me and my good friend Ronnie at a Spokane Indians game from Friday night. Ronnie and I met each other on a forum dedicated to sports jerseys when he came across a post I'd made about the Spokane Indians. Turns out he lives in Spokane as well. We've been to a bunch of games together, took a weekend trip over to Seattle to catch a Mariners game, and so on. Heck, our wives even get along Anyway, just a pic of the two of us from Friday night. The guy in the back is my buddy Mike. He's hiding in shame because he's wearing a Seahawks jersey
  5. http://www.theonion.com/articles/new-evidence-confirms-arod-invented-steroids,33583/ Dang it, I knew he was up to no good when he was here in Seattle. Give him 211 games now!
  6. Mystic River - Timothy Robbins plays a guy who was kidnapped as a kid and raped. Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon were his friends who saw him taken away. They've drifted apart over the years but are brought back together when Penn's daughter is murdered. Long movie, kinda convoluted with a lot of stuff going on as each guy continues to deal with what happened on that fateful day in their childhood. Great cast (Lawrence Fishburne, Laura Linney, and Marcia Gay Harden are also in it) and a good story, directed by Clint Eastwood. Good flick with a slightly dissatisfying ending.
  7. What was the holdup? That movie is seven years old.
  8. Another random watch for me last night: The Rainmaker - Matt Damon stars as a lawyer fresh out of law school working for a charlatan and suing a big, evil insurance company for killing his client by failing to pay for his leukemia treatments. Danny Devito co-stars and Mickey Rourke plays Damon's boss. And you get Danny Glover as the kindly veteran judge trying to steer Damon through his first case and Jon Voight as the evil corporate attorney opposing Damon. There's a good story here - the book is your typical excellent John Grisham novel - but the execution is not good. The questioning that Damon does is terrible, not asking important questions, not knowing proper court procedure and just generally is a mess. Stuff that they try to pass off as "rookie mistakes" but really aren't. The music is 1970s cheesy and the whole thing just feels real cheap and cheesy. Definitely not the best Grisham adaptation I've seen, that's for sure. 4/10.
  9. So you actually have a problem with all three? You know, that whole double negative thing...
  10. Pretty typical of the Schwartz era. They are so frigging undisciplined.
  11. Ho hum, another night, another 3-run homer for Miggy. .356/41/126 and we're not even to the last week of August yet. He's 5 HRs back of Chris Davis, who's sitting on .304/46/117 right now. Happy for both guys - one's a Detroit Tiger, one's a former Spokane Indian, so it's all good!
  12. You'll note he's still not admitting he did it strictly as a performance enhancer. It was "while rehabilitating an injury". He should have gotten another 50 games for the false anti-semite thing. . . Yeah, I'd have no problem with some extra games tacked on for that.

  14. When did all movie commericals start using the exact same format? By that I mean, widescreen presentation but with a bar at the top and one at the bottom with the date and name or whatever. They all look exactly the same now, even across studios and so on. When (and how?) did that start?
  15. Great game. First one is a touch better, IMHO. Now go back and play it through with the opposite alignment (evil instead of good or vice versa).
  16. Tried a couple demos for the PS3: Thunder Wolves - Helicopter shooter. Looks pretty, has decent sound effects, cheesy voice acting. Exactly the kind of game I should like - lots of stuff to blow up, not a whole lot of thinking needed. Except it's terrible. Feels unresponsive and it randomly stutters for no apparent reason. Pass. NHL 14 - Now with NHL '94 mode! I only put about 20 minutes into this demo but I liked it a lot. I haven't played an NHL game in a few years (I think NHL 10 was my last - and I liked that one a LOT) but this one feels really good. I will almost certainly pick this up, the only question is whether I wait for it to drop in price and if I want to get the PS4 version instead (assuming I don't cancel my PS4 pre-order).
  17. Japan isn't fake baseball but let's not pretend it's the same thing as MLB. Not even close. It's a nice AAA, maybe AAAA, but it's not MLB. And, for the record, the full title of the HOF is the "National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum". It's an American museum dedicated to American baseball. It's not like the basketball (or hockey) HOFs that are worldwide things.
  18. Nah, but they could join the illustrious "first to worst" club. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/will-giants-join-the-first-to-worst-club/ They might be the worst WS champ that didn't intentionally gut their team the following year. The 1998 Marlins are the worst WS defending champs but they intentionally trashed their own team.
  19. His poor attitude and performance dropoff the last couple years in Seattle dropped Ichiro a bit in TT eyes but I'm still a big fan. I just think the 4000 hits thing is a fake milestone.
  20. An "eh" milestone in my eyes. Yeah, the Japan league is a tough league but it's really AAAA ball.
  21. I may try Zenni for the prescription sunglasses. I don't need anything spectacular and could maybe even handle single vision on them, as they're really for short-term use (vacation in Hawaii in March). I do like that Zenni has a thing where you can upload a picture of your face and try different glasses on yourself.
  22. My insurance is actually my company self-insuring so I can go anywhere and just get reimbursed. Anybody tried Zenni?
  23. So I need glasses. And I'd like get regular ones and a pair of prescription sunglasses. My insurance only (sort of) covers one pair. So I'm looking to get some online. Anybody got experience with any particular sites and tips that I should be aware of? If it matters, I need bifocals.
