  1. In his first 18 starts this year, Adam Wainwright has 9 with 7+ IP and 0 runs allowed. Nobody's ever done that before.
  2. Yeah, he went from 31 HRs in 1970, the last year of Forbes (with some Three Rivers thrown in) to 48 in 1971, the first full year in Three Rivers. Speaking of Stargell, I wonder if there's ever been a HOFer who missed a higher percentage of his team's games than Willie? The guy played less then 3/4 of his team's games. He missed 36 games his MVP season (has anybody else ever done THAT?) He never once played in 150 games, something even "his body was always broken" Mickey Mantle did several times.
  3. Well, when your head is ringing, or you're knocked out, you can't feel the pain in your knees, so you're onto something. #RealScience
  4. Adrian Beltre is a HOFer. Four-time Gold Glove winner, lots of big offensive seasons, good career totals. He belongs. But he won't get in.
  5. Yes, it does. I literally use it all day every day.
  6. Your solution is what I was going to suggest. The only drawback is that the filenames are nonsense. But you can use a utility to rename them based on their ID3 tags.
  7. We'd get him when he's 46 and can only put up 8/4 every night. And he'd still start.
  8. Basketball dudes use those same substances. #MaybeLebron
  9. I suspect football players do a lot more side and direction change drills than other sports except maybe basketball. Combine that with the extra size of football players, the fact that they practice/train on grass/turf and not a court, and you get knee injuries.
  10. I know a lot of people that prefer mac & cheese with ham in it vs plain. Personally, the sight of mac & cheese gives me a very strong urge to barf (literally). It's only been the last 5 years or so that I can even be in the same room with the stuff.
  11. Mad Max dominant as the Tigers beat the Dodgers for the second straight night. Scherzer has been excellent in 4 straight starts and 5 of his last 6. Now if we could just get Verlander back to being himself... Fun Dodger/Tiger stats: Justin Verlander is 14-0 in 15 starts against NL teams after beating the Dodgers yesterday. Matt Kemp is 0-21 against Scherzer after going 0-4 with 3Ks today.
  12. Went to the Spokane Indians vs Tri City Dust Devils game last night (my guys waxed Tri City, 16-4!) Tri City has the son of former Los Angeles and San Diego Padres superstar Steve Garvey playing for them. Garvey also spent a year playing in Spokane back in 1970 as part of "the greatest minor league team of all-time". He'll be throwing out the first at tonight's game. But...he was in the ballpark last night as well. After the game, I turned around and, hey, look, there's Steve Garvey 5 feet from my box! Nobody bugging him or anything, I went over to chat, welcomed him back to Spokane and got this photo: Gonna try and get a print of this before tonight's game and see if I can't get it signed.
  13. Go up to Grand Haven - a legit incredible white sand beach on Lake Michigan.
  14. I made the twelve year old watch 2001 and he hated it so much that it is a viable punishment now. I haven't ever sat down and watched it straight through but I have seen the whole movie many times. It would be a viable punishment against me as well.
  15. I understand it but refuse to explain it to you.
  16. Again, this stirkes me similarly as not seeing THE GODFATHER, as in HOW is that possible? Even if you had no interest or desire to see it, it seems impossible that you wouldn't run across one of the zillion times it's aired on cable and eventually just give in to it. I mean, I guess with JAWS there's the additional factor of maybe you have an intense fear of sharks or a desire not to have the beach ruined for you forever. I've never seen Jaws either. Yeah, me either.
  17. The Colts lists nothing from the Unitas era. Surely that can't be right.
  18. I am sad that Kellen Winslow's FG block in that epic playoff game is somehow tied with LT's breaking the TD record. Yeah, Tomlinson's season was awesome but Kellen's play is iconic.
  19. Is he posing with a neck brace?
  20. Obviously a completely different era. Still, Dunn's best batting average in a full season was his .267 in 2009 with Washington. Killebrew topped that figure 8 times in a significantly harder era. I get that batting average is not a great measure of a hitter's worth but it DOES still matter. And there's just not a chance in the world that a guy with a .238 career average, which includes a full season where he was in Ray Oyler territory at .159, gets into the HOF. Absolutely none. Oh, he'll get votes because he's hit a million home runs. But...no. In 2012, Adam Dunn either whiffed, walked, or homered 57% of the time. That's just...remarkable. He K'ed 34% of the time alone.
  21. Guys who have never once hit .270 in a season have no shot at the HOF, even if they hit 1000 homers.
  22. Y'all need to watch the story on the blind kid who walks using echo location and can play fighting games facing away from the TV.

    Crying

Ain't no shame in crying to that clip. Powerful stuff that I hadn't seen since the original airing.
  24. Finished the Jeff Pearlman "Showtime" book over the weekend. It's a goldmine of sleaze and great stories. Probably spends too much time on all the sex everybody* was having. As a Pistons fan, I have a beef with the way the 1988 Finals were described, particularly the non-foul in game 6 that cost the Pistons the title ("Laimbeer hacked Kareem", which is absolutely NOT what happened). Other than that, pretty great. Some fun tidbits: - Mike Dunleavy had an offer on the table to be the head coach of the Pistons when he took the Lakers job. Keep in mind, we're talking the 2-time defending champion Pistons at that point. Guess Daddy Rich was going to retire or something. - I always knew that Pat Riley trademarked the phrase "three-peat" as the Lakers tried to win another title in 1989. What I didn't know was that he stole the phrase from Wes Mathews. Mathews was let go during that third title attempt and he was more than happy to see it go down in flames - while winning a CBA title for himself. Paraphrase of Wes: "That m-f'er Riley stole 'three-peat' but I'm the only one who did!" - Didn't quite realize how much the players hated Pat Riley by the time he was canned. He had no defenders on the team and had basically become an out-of-control egomaniac - Magic Johnson was well aware of his status within the organization and was more than happy to use it to get rid of a guy who fouled him too hard in practice, a coach (Paul Westhead) or whoever else Anyway, great book. Read it, you'll love it. * - except, of course, A.C. Green.
