  1. No one can honestly feel comfortable saying "Just because it's a summer comic book movie that's getting really good reviews doesn't mean it's going to make a lot of money." (Granted, I'm the guy who was saying "James Gunn directing Chris Pratt, come on now people" a couple of months ago.)
  2. It's inexplicably at 100% right now with 10 reviews.
  3. The critics are actually not too harsh on Rock's version. See also: the weeping and gnashing of teeth in the blockbuster pool thread.
  4. The match is Ricochet & Yoshino vs. CIMA & Matt Sydal from Dragon Gate Kobe World 2014 this past weekend.
  5. First batch of movies announced for the Toronto Film Festival. http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/tiff-2014-lineup-includes-the-imitation-game-while-were-young-nightcrawler-men-women-children-more-20140722 I gotta look at these more closely later. I've heard of Foxcatcher, This Is Where I Leave You, Wild, and The Imitation Game. There's something called The Drop with Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini (Gandolfini's still showing up in movies?) that I would probably see just based on those three alone. Apparently there's a Pasolini biopic directed by Abel Ferrara, with Willem Dafoe as Pasolini. Yikes.

    2014 G1 Climax

Wrong PPVs plural for me... I watched Battleground and Dragon Gate Kobe World (which wasn't bad, but was below expectations). Womp womp.
  7. For the record, Pixels was filming in downtown Toronto in early June and my facebook feed was littered with friends' pictures. Apparently the Sandler-Gad-Dinklage-whoever else team drives around in appropriately colored Mini Coopers with license plates that say Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde. So, I don't know, if there are a lot of old video game references, I could see myself enjoying it more than Grown Ups (which is the only Sandler movie I've seen in the last 10 years).
  8. Just in the middle of the note to line 287. Oh my god, this guy is the fucking absolute worst.
  9. Pretty rare for a horror sequel to do better critically than the original. I put it second last on my RT list, behind Transformers 4, so I will not be long for the top spot.
  10. Wellllll that's embarrassing. I left Apes off both my lists, so that's probably why I jumped to #1.

  12. My facebook feed informs me that Lay's will be releasing four new potato chip flavors later this month, on sale until mid-October: Wasabi Ginger Mango Salsa Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese Cappuccino First two sound like they'd be worth trying, third sounds like it's essentially already been done, fourth one sounds like a horrible mistake.
  13. Could be wrong but it doesn't look like Horns has a North American release date. The Halloween release is UK only.
  14. Could be one of those deals where some unscrupulous person is using a spoofed version of your card and the bank has shut it down due to unusual purchases.
  15. Yeah, it should. X-Men was only at $174 million after 14 days. But clearly my $350 million tiebreaker prediction for Transformers will be more than a little off. For HTTYD2, after Fowler's post, I tried to look around online to see if there were any good theories about its box office performance. Apparently there's a tv show based on the franchise that started up a couple of years ago, and some people think the existence of the tv show may have made the movie seem less special. Or maybe when you're aiming a movie at young children, 4 years is pretty much forever to a kid, and it's too long of a wait to capitalize on the first one's performance (but there are probably examples of animated sequels that had huge waiting times and still did very well). I dunno.

  17. LeBron wanting titles makes sense to me, because you need a lot of titles to be considered GOAT. It makes less sense to me for Bosh, because no one thinks he's at that level. But mostly it's that "I have to wait until I know where LeBron's playing before I can decide where I'm playing" is this second banana, sidekick mindset that sort of makes him look like a chump. Granted he's not going to end up in a bad situation either way.
  18. I'm through the poem, and about a page or two into the notes. I'm thinking my best bet is to make a copy of the pdf and have both copies open at once so I can look at the poem and the notes at the same time. I've got an opinion on it right now, but I'll hold off on posting anything about that until I actually finish.
  19. I don't know about those last two. The most points ever by one team in an NFL game is 72, and the most points ever by one team in an NBA game is 186, so both those numbers would be higher than a team in those leagues has ever scored. But the most goals by one soccer team in a World Cup game is 10.
  20. Wondering about the judge who scored it 49-45 for Weidman. That means he scored a round 10-8 for Weidman, right? There's no such thing as a 9-9 round in a 10 point must system?
