  1. You could, in theory, argue that it already has happened. Infield Fly in Left Field, and what not.
  2. Thursday, September 5 Baltimore at Denver (the tradition of picking against the defending champs out of nothing but pure petty childish spite and sour grapes begins) Sunday, September 8 Tampa Bay at NY Jets Tennessee at Pittsburgh Atlanta at New Orleans New England at Buffalo Seattle at Carolina CIncinnati at Chicago Kansas City at Jacksonville (Go Alex) Minnesota at Detroit Oakland at Indianapolis (what the hell, it's week 1) Miami at Cleveland Green Bay at San Francisco Arizona at St. Louis NY Giants at Dallas (the Giants have yet to lose at Jerryworld) Monday, September 9 Philadelphia at Washington Houston at San Diego Tiebreaker #1: Geno Smith total turnovers (fumbles lost + interceptions) 5 Tiebreaker #2: Colin Kaepernick total yards (rushing + passing) 335 Tiebreaker #3: Calvin Johnson receiving yards 175
  3. If anyone's going to organize a HIGHWAY TO HAM this year (hopefully someone does), we've got that pesky Thursday Season Opener looming tomorrow to account for.
  4. They don't have to. City/County governments will fleece the rubes FOR them and are so desperate to "lure job creators" they won't even take a cut of the action.
  5. Zito had an RBI in that game too, as I recall. I might be thinking about the World Series Game 1 against Verlander though. Either way, those two games should've erased most if not all Giant fan animus towards Zito and his hilariously bad contract. That, and him stinking up his next/last 3 or 4 starts, weighs nothing against that. I've come to think of this season as simply The Bill Coming Due. And I have no problem with that.
  6. Eh, at this point there's no point in getting worked up about anything going on with this team. "Next Year" started two months ago. Let Zito have his sendoff start/farewell tour this last month, why not?
  7. A shame. Kluwe's kooky enough to have made a good Raider. I felt a little less bad about Lechler departing for greener pastures when I saw Kluwe was coming in. Hope he catches on elsewhere.
  8. Probably about the same time all movies became the same.
  9. A-Rod homered to dead center. I missed his demonstrative finish to his home run trot, apparently. "lol that's how you retaliate: on the scoreboard" etc. etc.
  10. So Dempster throws at A-Rod's knee and misses (it goes behind him). Umpire says nothing while even the ESPN broadcast team acknowledges what's going on. Two more pitches inside, A-Rod is plunked in the ribs on the 3-0. Umpire warns both benches and ejects nobody. Joe Girardi, predictably, goes nuclear [what with the Yankees robbed of their chance to retaliate for this without suspension] and eventually gets ejected for screaming bloody murder at the umpire, I can only assume because he correctly called the guy a gutless moron. Fenway fans chant "You're A Cheater" at A-Rod, without a shred of shame or irony considering they will mightily cheer David Ortiz's next at-bat. I imagine Rippa is almost as wroth as Girardi right now. Between the fans and the umpire I'm actually watching a Yankees game and wanting them to win. How about that.
  11. Alex Smith is quarterbacking against the 49ers, and I'm glad it doesn't count because I still don't want to root against him quite yet. Forgot about the game until now, turned it on early in the 2nd Quarter, surprised (pleasantly) he's still in.
  12. Jae continues to watch the episodes of RAW that my user name (indirectly) stems from. Actually if he's up to October he's probably gotten past all those by now. Glad to see you're bringing this back, dude.
  13. As someone who does not want to see A-Rod catch Willie Mays (let alone Bonds) yet DOES want to see him stick it to the Steinbrenners and/or Bud Selig as much as possible, I am very conflicted right now.
  14. I am heartened to see David Akers has resurfaced in the league as the Lions new kicker. After all, not just anyone can replace the last surviving member of the Lions 1957 Championship Team Jason Hanson.
  15. I think that's the gag. Spoofing everyone else's Big Head Race by doing a mock one where the same racer (Rickey) always wins. Wait... wait... wait. How long has that being going on??? And if RICKEY~! is always winning then it needs to continue for infinity. I think it just started. The radio guys have been mentioning it in passing only in the last week or so. They've talked about it twice and both times Rickey has won (including Eck falling down once, but I don't think that was part of the act), so as far as I know it's a Parody Big Head Race [also note there is only three of them instead of the "traditional" four].
  16. I think that's the gag. Spoofing everyone else's Big Head Race by doing a mock one where the same racer (Rickey) always wins.
  17. "Saving the sport" from an endangerment Selig (and company) created in the first place, mind. Another reason Selig's words and actions invariably ring hollow.
  18. Pence would seemingly have to be a part of any sell trade the Giants make; who else do they have that they'd be willing to deal that would get enough to be worth trading? Pence + one of the left handed relievers (since that's something a lot of teams "need") as the outgoing package. It's been almost hilariously frustrating to watch this team -- which throughout this run has survived on a Thin Margin For Error -- suddenly lose that margin. This year marked the first time in FOUR YEARS [and even that was the about to retire Randy Johnson] there was an injury to the starting rotation. And whether it's age, injury, or simple regression, for whatever reason they've played consistently terrible defense since May. They were never a team that could afford to have either happen. So here they are. Oh and the Dodgers have finally mobilized their resources effectively and are on the ascent. But it's still a small price to pay for what I've gotten to enjoy the last three years. Even if the window closes early this was all totally worth it.
  19. And they never have. Which is why they never have (reference the greenies era and "two pots of coffee in the clubhouse" era for the thousandth time). Especially since this is America and thus the rube fans and the rube media members are all too eager to, when scandal breaks, heap all the blame and indignation on the individual players rather than management. So the owners don't even have to pay the PR price of customer outrage.
  20. Yeah if it's A-Rod vs. Selig I will take A-Rod's side every time and without hesitation or remorse. Selig is going after A-Rod for all the wrong reasons and trying to carve out a "Judge Landis of the 21st Century" legacy for himself, when A] he and his deliberate blind eye is responsible for the proliferation of steroids in the first place (he was for them when it was driving revenue and against them only now because it's good PR to be against them) B] they're just going to try and use A-Rod to establish precedent to divide the union/help his ownership cronies get out of guaranteed contracts they were dumb enough to sign in the first place (not just the Yankees) C (wholly unrelated) ] his "dealing" with the Oakland Athletics' stadium situation proves unequivicoally that he has Zero Guts and A Negative Number Of Testicles, and thinks the general public are idiots and/or In Kindergarten (admittedly possibly true), because he keeps deferring his SPECIAL MAGIC BLUE RIBBON PANEL that has been "studying" the situation since 2009 and has proven its own existence about as often and as convincingly as Santa Claus. So here I am, sympathetic to A-Rod for perhaps the first time ever. How about that.
  21. Did A-Rod really hire GENE SNITSKY as personal security or did I dream that? Seems like just about the most counter-productive person to hire from a PR standpoint in A-Rod's position.
  22. My patience was rewarded, and I picked up the last bit of Skyrim DLC (Dragonborn) for half price a few days ago. I'm amazed at how much MORE there is to it, in comparison to Dawnguard, which just adds what feels like a handful of quests and items for the same price. Dragonborn truly feels like a proper expansion and less a mere DLC. Apparently it's got a lot of shout outs and references to Morrowind, too, which go over my head as I never played it.
  23. It took me longer than I care to admit to check the main deathvalleydriver page for a possible link to a new board, instead of my Pavlovian ritual of trying the old bookmark to the main forum page and hoping against gradually dwindling hope that it would be back up. Gonna enjoy watching things start anew.
