  1. I guess I join the sectarian war with this post: I always liked Friday better. Freddy's great but the humor is terrible. I actually prefer the braindead nature of the Friday films. Maybe it's just sleazier... Couldn't sit through the remake past the pre-credit sequence though. The Nightmare one, I gave a half-hearted attempt, but just switched the channel.
  2. Ooooo, I just thought of something. In the Inferno match Kane's arm got set on fire. Wyatt has that black wrap on the one arm... I bet they're gonna re-do the spot.
  3. Well, WWE is PG so they're saying that to save their ass. As far as I'm concerned Wyatt WANTS the fire match, so why should he fear it? I'll third the respect for the Maddox cane shot. That's one of the only plunder headshots in the federation in ages and I'm sure it hurt like a bitch. A gripe: why does everyone have to do a faceplant finisher? Wyatt, Rhodes, god there are like three more I know. I forgive Cesaro's because it's supposed to be a Gotch-style piledriver (nice for Cole to mention that, btw). Finally, JBL namedropping Kendo Nagasaki was great.
  4. I cannot believe I've had this match forever and never got around to watching it. This is the classic Torneo Cibernetico from '97 in CMLL, which for the uninitiated is an elimination match where partners on both sides switch constantly. Here you get a little over 20 minutes of nothing but beautiful matwork before the first elimination before everything speeds up. In the meantime there are multiple angles going on with Santito vs. Casas of course being a highlight. Dr. Wagner Jr. has huge heat here and there's a great moment where he breaks up a pin on Casas by pulling him by his hair out to the floor so the rudos can mug him en masse. Satanico and Brazo de Oro share maybe the greatest and most fluid pin exchange sequences I've ever seen, then Shocker does a tope through the ropes that he goes UPSIDE DOWN on. The winner is in tears at the end and I cursed myself for never having gotten around to seeing this. Even if you don't "get" lucha you will love this. And if not a pox upon your name.
  5. So I actually have a Dragon Gate match? I'm amazed. (No offense meant to anyone, it's just not my thing) Cool match though.
  6. Missed some of this (like sadly most of the 6-man) but it was a really fun show and a very solid go-home overall. Bray is GREAT at the crazy character and I'm all about him. It reminds me of early Mankind but the messianic vibe gives it a nice twist. And Brodie Lee still looks scary as fuck all the time. Everyone was bumping huge tonight, especially Christian who looks older facially every time I see him which makes his bumping look more reckless. The match finish with him and Sandow was pretty innovative and cool, plus Sandow threw in the cartwheel which I haven't seen in awhile. Never seen Drake Younger before but he's got a great character-actor kinda face (and even he bumped big!). Surprisingly, none of the shenanigans with the Bryan match bothered me. It was almost "12 step" (TM Raven) booking but it worked... maybe Vince's absurd color-clashing wardrobe made me not mind, or Bryan is just that good. Probably both.
  7. I have a Japanese match from several years back with I want to say somebody like Shinobu? in a tiny room with no ring. Everyone just surrounds them, and they do highspots off chairs and a window in the wall. Had to have got it from Ditch or FLIK or Lenny. It's funny and actually pretty damn good. We also cannot forget the greatness of Survival Tobita vs. KEN THE BOX
  8. I'm waiting for you to get on the blonde chick in Piranha that was eternally on some CBS soap opera my mom used to watch all the time
  9. Dick really did end up losing to Brody in a locker-room brawl over money back then. Actually it was more of a tie (Brody said he must've been hell to fight when he was younger) but cheap-ass Dick finally had to pony up.
  10. TWO TIME Slammy Award Winner Owen Hart was the best. Heel Bret in WWF was too. Considering he literally had multiple versions we should talk Foley. OG Mankind was great, those skits were so awesome and then his interview with JR was gold later on. But is it better than Cactus Jack in ECW? Hmmmm...
  11. Thanks man, it's really a tossup between the first two for me, all the Jerry Blackwell and Bockwinkle vs. Hennig talk makes me want the AWA but I can wait, and I can see myself disliking Texas for the same reasons you do. So: Memphis or Mid-South? I'm leaning towards the former just for the brawls and promos but I really don't know the unsung heroes of Mid-South, like Butch Reed etc. And I have seen some of the big Mid-South (both noted angles above) and a good bit of Memphis Youtube and from Phil's comps, so I'm torn.
  12. I'm not a huge kung-fu guy (my knowledge is probably limited to The Street Fighter films, Master of the Flying Guillotine, Drunken Master and Bruce Lee films to be honest) but you guys might be interested in this article considering Weinstein's Grandmaster production. http://dailygrindhouse.com/thewire/dg-op-ed-ric-meyers-history-disrespect-weinstein-company-kung-fu/ ...and here is your new found footage horror flick, directed by Renny Harlin. If you look up "Dyatlov Pass" on Wiki the story is very interesting (I might've even found out about it here, memory fails me) but the film... well, Renny directed Prison, Cliffhanger, and Die Hard 2 so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. And I am completely hyped for the Ali doc!
  13. The castle show is Doomsday Castle on Nat Geo. The downward slide for said channel apparently increases, but at least we still have Drugs, Inc. and Inside the American Mob.
  14. Battle Royale 2 came off like an overlong, pretentious remake to me. Then again I watched it before the original, and honestly didn't like that one much either. A rewatch will be in order for probably a really long time.
  15. From my apparent musical tastes you might not think I'd like the following songs but BOC is my favorite band and Allen Lanier was a great songwriter. He passed away yesterday of COPD. I had the luck to see him when I was teenager when they played the state fair, before he quit/retired. One hell of a keyboardist and the three-guitar BOC will eternally rule with him on the six string.
  16. I'm still pissed that nobody's put the photo from Harley's book of those three holding the NWA title in front of them together backstage on the internet. I'd do it myself if I had a scanner. JACK looks tougher than HARLEY in that one, if you can believe it. The look on his face is so threatening. Because this was connected to the Spivey Spike video I have to share it. Anybody know the story behind this? It looks like a gauntlet match starting with Sakiguchi (or probably someone lower down before him). The look of panic from the rookies, then footage of people scrambling to get away from Hansen are priceless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNbM3Rv4LuE
  17. For some reason every time I try and click on the Movies and TV or Music boards it redirects me to the DVDVR homepage. I can even click on the recent threads for said boards but not access the main. What's up with this? I badly want to start an "RIP Allen Lanier" thread in Music which has galvanized me to post this
  18. The streetfight between Goto and Onita/Kurisu and Kendo Nagasaki in FMW was so fucking violent. I don't know who was more intense, Kurisu (who comes in dressed like an old man going to the Sizzler with tucked in plaid shirt and cowboy boots) or Nagasaki, who was just waffling people with no regard. I'm definately hitting up his matches when my net time rolls around end of the month. I have to second the love for the Stairway to Hell re-do. There's a great moment when Sandman had the halo of wire around his head, he leans back against the ropes covered in blood, and Joey just quietly says "oh my god" and you can tell the crowd is officially freaked out by all of it. The only other time I saw an ECW crowd act like that was Born to be Wired. Rude always looked weird to me with those skinny legs.
  19. Since I'm finally re-employed, I need to get one of these after having the NJPW set forever. Which should I get first: Memphis, Mid-South, Texas, AJPW, or AWA?
  20. I doubt I'll be watching because I fell asleep before Global came on last night, but AWA has a three or four hour block starting at 2 AM tomorrow. Makes me want to buy a DVR but then I could just buy Will's set instead
  21. Does Zima exist in Japan? It certainly doesn't here anymore. If this is true then I almost want to forgive Onita for being a perv
  22. Re-watching The Wire doesn't work that way. You will sit down and watch an entire season in huge swaths of time. It has this power that refuses to let you leave it alone. This talk of Bodie reminded me of McNulty saying to him "you're a soldier", and him saying "definitely". The only reason he snitched is because he didn't have a general worth dying for anymore. But the game is the game...
  23. It's awesome that in 2013 there is Papa Shango no-selling on my TV screen without me putting a disc in
  24. This talk made me bust out Technical Ecstasy and really they should've done "You Won't Change Me" instead. Even if just because Ozzy's fallen off the wagon again, aside from the fact that it's great. Here's this. Crack some beers for Witchhunter, RIP. Or don't because that's why he died
