  1. ALL IN dvd arrived today. will likely be weeks before i watch it, so look elsewhere if you want to know the differences between this and the live broadcast. also, sorry the 2nd pic is so blurry (edit: also sorry that the pics didn't embed. dvdvr board vs. imgur vs. twiztor's phone is a triple threat where there are no winners) https://i.imgur.com/Z1R2OMu.webp https://i.imgur.com/UzkJoEU.jpeg
  2. NWA POWERRR! Episode 128: Keep Your Enemies Close 10/3/23 @ Nashville, TN #1 Women's Tag Contenders: Natalia Markova & Taylor Rising vs. M95 decent enough match, but it was structured a bit oddly. Markova completely dominated everybody, every time she was in the ring. Really made Taylor look inferior. the high points of the match were whenever Madi Wrenkowski was in the ring and on offense, as she was the best person involved. Junior Heavyweight Title: Colby Corino (c) vs. Matt Vine fun match. Vine used his size and power to slow the match down and try to break Corino physically. Colby was smaller and more wiry, so relied on quickness and high-risk maneuvers. Solid action all around and worth watching. Aron Stevens and Knox & Murdoch face off at the podium. Long story short, K&M will face BFT at the PPV in a "Medieval Knights of the Round Table Tables Match". Chris Silvio, Esq. vs. Jax Dane this was essentially just a promo from Silvio, although there was a bit of a match i guess you could call it. came off as kind of lame IMO. National Title: Silas Mason (c) vs. Dak Draper pretty decent match here. Silas has really developed into a great rough-and-tumble brawler. He's fun to watch. Draper is the epitome of "OK". he's got a pretty bland presentation. While he doesn't do anything that's bad, he also doesn't do anything that's great. just a guy who's just kind of there.
  3. three days ago: #RaysUp today: fuck baseball. NFL4EVER! #FlyEaglesFly
  4. my takeaway is that Madusa's opponents hated working with her so much that they had to resort to getting messed up ahead of time. is that what we're going for here?
  5. OK, but i'm going to need a Dan Spivey appearance too. Maybe it will help me not get confused when reading either/both of their names.
  6. glad to see the ECW Zombie getting some love. usually his appearance is derided. i thought it was hilarious and awesome.
  7. well OK, but if i get busted, now i have a scapegoat.....
  8. NWA POWERRR! Episode 127: The G Gets The Love 9/28/23 @ Nashville, TN NWA TV Title Qualifying Match: Chris Adonis vs. Mims vs. Jordan Clearwater vs. Blake Troop i liked, and was surprised by, the finish and the winner. the match itself wasn't bad, but felt too discombobulated for me. It just didn't flow. I'll look forward to the TV Title match. Murdoch cuts a fiery promo about winning the tag team titles. crowd eats it up. Knox brings the energy down with some weird talking about dreams and spirits and a Jackalope. ok. Kamille vs. Madi Wrenkowski the story going in is that Kamille may have lost her focus on wrestling since losing the title, and she's shifting more to supporting her beau. Madi takes it to her early, but Kamille's size and strength is always tough to overcome. Madi leans into some underhanded tactics to retain control until the big comeback. Pretty decent match. The finish was not really in doubt, but the journey getting there was entertaining. US Tag Team Titles: Brothers of Funstruction (with Violent J) vs. Daisy Kill & Talos (c) if you like the clowns' schtick, this was probably fun. it just feels dumb to me, i can't really get invested in what they do. Post-match, we get La Rebelion brawling with the clowns and also Vampiro and Violent J getting heated. an awkward promo from Brady Pierce, formerly of the Spectaculars. Yikes, this was awful. NWA World TItle: EC3 (c) vs. Jay Bradley mostly a power battle. i guess this was OK. i didn't dislike it, but it felt like these guys didn't get out of first gear. Tag Team Titles: Blunt Force Trauma (c) vs. Knox & Murdoch another match with big dudes, although this highlighted the brawling of both teams. we only get about 5 minutes until Aron Stevens slides a chair into the ring. Knox gets DQ'd when he DOESN'T use the chair because the ref DOESN'T see it. if i was an overly positive person, i'd say that NWA was subverting tropes and expectations with that finish. Since i'm not, i'll call it what it was: bullshit. Last week, i mentioned that it seemed like they were loading this episode up. Well, for me it certainly didn't come close to delivering. also no idea what the episode title means.
  9. i kind of wonder if we end up with 12 PPVs a year regardless: 8 AEW + 3 ROH + Forbidden Door, or something like that.
  10. also opposed to the aforementioned MNW-era Nitro shows where the "main event" would "start" at 9:57 and end in a clusterfuck before 10. somewhat related, i always thought the 20 minute promos to start off Raw were somewhat business exposing. Most weeks, the main event would get booked right there in the ring. What was the planned main event before that? why are these guys showing up if they didn't have a match? You don't see the Houston Astros showing up in Miami because they wanted a game against the Marlins.
  11. what do you think this is, TNA? also, how does Google not have a meme of Mike Tenay with the "We Know Who That Is" caption? the internet has disappointed me today. i may have to make one when i get home from work.
  12. @just drew i am losing it at the Bautista bit. Just sitting here at work fucking dying. kudos, good sir. and might i mention, i look forward to your next movie.
  13. i think there's enough 'evidence' to prove this point. no tin foil hats needed. in the WWF, anybody associated with WCW was a heel. They were portrayed as heels on TV since the moment they debuted. Look at the two biggest stars: They completely neutered and buried DDP. Booker T was turned into Shane's bumbling lackey. They made it a point to single out that this was a "WCW match" and changed the announcers, referee, and ring announcer. Vince McMahon, ON TV, went out of his way to mention he didn't want WCW matches on his show. It didn't "look" or "feel" like a WCW presentation, so no actual hardcore WCW fans would have cared. Plus, you know, the whole thing about WWF Raw being in Atlanta one week later. there's nothing wrong with the match. see for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g32efb5gaF8. it's no all-time classic or anything, but it's a perfectly acceptable match. It goes less than 5 minutes bell-to-bell before the WWF guys run in and wreck the whole thing (to a huge pop BTW). If the implication is that the match was SO bad that they changed the entire trajectory of the angle due to a 5 minute match, it must have been the absolute drizzling shits and the worst thing of all time. i re-watched all of the Invasion stuff a few years ago and made a thread that i updated weekly to recap the shows (http://deathvalleydriver.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6883-invasion/#comment-740182). the search feature is broken right now, so i can't find it, but there was no way Vince/WWF was going to let WCW get over at any level. seriously, the ONLY person from WCW/ECW that got over to ANY level was RVD. The whole angle was garbage from the jump.
  14. checking wikipedia, that sounds like a pretty damn good movie. like WAY too ggod for a drunken satirical review. still, it sounds worth checking out.
  15. need a recommendation: my wife is out of town for the weekend, so i'm making it a point to watch good/bad foreign films. already watched Martial Club (1981, Hon Kong kung fu flick) and Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla (1994, Japan (duh)). i want to watch at least one more, preferably from a different genre and region, but i'm really not all that picky. are there any African films that i could semi-satirically review that would be worthwhile? South American? HELP?!?
  16. i haven't watched Rampage yet, but i just finished Dynamite. let me just say, AEW RULES THE MOTHERFUCKING WORLD~! love ya, @DEAN
  17. NWA POWERRR! Episode 126: The Dark Carnival 9/19/23 @ Nashville, TN #1 Contender: Ruthie Jay vs. Natalia Markova vs. Missa Kate the two underdogs team up on Markova early until personal ambition gets in the way. timing was a bit off at times, but this wasn't bad. i agree with the outcome and think Kenzie Paige can have a pretty good match with her. Interesting finish that involves an intriguing take on a low blow. they (re?)play Tyrus' retirement speech from NWA75. i assume this aired on the PPV? i haven't rewatched it yet. i'm not going to live through that again, so i skip ahead. Zyon vs. "Double Barrel" Boz we seem to have settled on the "Zyon" spelling, after some inconsistency earlier ("Zion"). Boz gets the jobber entrance, which is the first time i recall NWA doing that. Definitely more of a competitive match than i expected. Certainly not a bad match, but also nothing special. Interview with Violent J: He likes to chew ice. this dude is super animated. How has there not been an ICP cartoon or something by now? Rush Freeman vs. Thom Latimer Freeman is kind of vanilla. this is pretty one-sided and fine. La Rebelion vs. Magic Inc. CJ is the only good part of this magic team. She is barely above a one-note character, but it is done EXCELLENTLY. La Rebelion carry this to a watchable match, but these magic guys are just kind of dumb and uninteresting. Timing was all sorts of off for the finish. they seem to have loaded up next week's show: an NWA World Title match (vs. Jay Bradley), a Tag Team Titles match (vs. Knox & Murdoch), plus Kamille (vs. Madi Wrenkowski)!
  18. won't get to watch this until later next week, but this is also going down this weekend:
  19. now i won't be able to read his posts in the MMA forum without thinking of MMA Jarrett.
  20. alternatively, i hope @Sammo~! roots against Danielson. Just to show that he has.....
  21. i had the same score as you. Grasso 2,4,5. Was rooting for Val, but that slip up in rd5 caused her to lose. I had her up in the round until that point. i may have told this story before, but once i moved back to my home(ish)town, my friends and i decided to get together, watch the monthly PPV cards, and create a yearlong betting pool. we had all watched for at least a few years by that point, so it's not like any of us were novices. The first event? UFC 127 (Feb 2011). the main event was a nontitle clash between BJ Penn vs. Jon Fitch, which ended in a majority draw. not the greatest start to a betting pool. sidenote: i picked Penn, proving that i have always tended to favor aging former greats. i didn't win the year.
  22. well it would certainly turn out better than when WCW would trot out Lee Marshall for the women's matches. i always kind of appreciated that idea in WCW (obviously moreso with Tenay and the cruisers) because it did give you JUST a slight more reason to pay attention.
  23. i'm sure it's mainly my unfamiliarity with current Impact Wrestling, but i did not enjoy this episode as much as i expected. good moment for Sabin, at least. and congrats to Traci Brooks.
  24. Pat was scheduled to make his return to MMA next month (vs. Mike Jackson. Yes, the Mike Jackson who holds a victory no contest over CM Punk). Wonder if that still happens.
