I went to the show and although I can't say anything about the main event was bad but I nearly nodded off. These shows are just so long. I wish that 15 minutes of the main could have been given to Azumi and Mayu. It is hard to review a show in such a big arena. I was also behind a corner and the light rigging behind the corner. I really liked Naito vs. Hiromu. Going by what reviews I am reading, I guess that I really liked it because I really like both of them. I had an aisle seat which gave me easy access to the beer girls, bathroom, and room for my American legs in a Japanese stadium.

I'm going to Atlantic City to see Nick Gage Saturday. That sounds normal, but it is for Combat Zone! My expectations are not so high.

Because the Wiz only did TV every 3 (or so) weeks plus MSG, he continued as Abdullah Farouk at the same time. I think that stopped when Sheik money went down and NY money went up. I remember seeing him on channel 41 with The Sheik at the Olympic and on channel 47 from Pennsylvania as the Wizard in the same week in the 70's.

Battle Royals were cool in the 70's and early 80's when they were once a year and also the most dangerous match of the year. In every other match at that time throwing the opponent over the top rope was an immediate DQ. Then "his momentum carried him over the top rope" started and soon the DQ rule was discarded. They can be good now when they are very scripted. But they really have lost the feeling of being important.

WRESTLING ON THE INTERNET NOT FROM THE NOW

Thanks for this. Double thanks for this. -
I was ring announcer for BRAWL (Bloody Rage American Wrestling League) and remember introducing "from the north he is Tundra" for the man who is now Big Boom AJ. I'm getting a kick out of seeing him get this sudden popularity 20 years later. I might try to re-connect with a couple of BRAWL people and go to the show.

You can double blow your mind with Dream Orca vs Tokyo Sweethearts. I started watching just after that time. I loved when I found some tapes of them. Tokyo Sweetheart (Toyota & Shimoda) vs. The Dream Orca (Yamada & Mita)

That's why it does work.

There should be 9 counts when 1 person gets in the ring and the other person looses on the 10 count. When one guy is out of the ring and then his opponent follows him out the ref should be doing two separate 10 counts. When rules matter, breaking the rules also matter.

Vince saw it work great with Spiros Arion turning on Bruno. Arion continued to be a draw when he came back to fight Backlund. -
I think that there should be more disqualifications and count outs. Just not double DQ and count outs as BS finishes. Need to show that there are rules to follow. Multi-person matches should be elimination. They should also be tag rules most of the time. Undercard flippy guys can do whatever because those matches don't mean anything.

Is there any lucha broadcast in US other than AAA on Unimas or WWC on WAPA America? My cable no longer has a search function.

Yes. He wore the suits with the Mr. AB monogramed shirts in Japan. Baba made them all dress well in the hotels and public situations. -

I believed from the time that it happened that the week after Abdullah was electrocuted in that cage in WCW he should have been on TV the next week wearing a suit and his monogramed Mr. AB shirt and speaking perfect English. I remember babyface Abby dancing with manager Joe Don Smith on a stadium show in Puerto Rico, but I can't find the video too. I'm sure that I have it on DVD recorded from the Sunday classico match on recent WCW. -

We have a friend named Champ. We say that to him, but he has no idea that it is from wrestling. -

Go Mikey! Go! When I drive on the NJ Turnpike with two of my friends, every time we go through the toll and the sign says go we yell go! like Grunge. -
World - They have Okada. Use him. Run him and Osprey. Throw Kenny in with them when he is ready. Tag - GYV, Bucks, Jay & Juice and all of the rest of the many teams. Use Jericho and his group to utilize his star power and cut down on his ring time. Women - Riho forever. Book her like Sheik in Toronto. They could fire the rest of the roster and just bring in a new challenger every month. TBS/TNT - Make it a real TV championship with a 15 minute match on TV every week. International as the secondary singles.

And they would sell or transfer the contracts of the wrestlers to each other, usually leading to a face turn of the wrestler.

AEW Navel-Gazing Thread Number Two
ka-to replied to Gordi the BJW fan's topic in ALL ELITE WRESTLING
I really enjoy going to BJW shows. They have some of the craziest merch. Raw eggs, deathmatch (super spicy) popcorn, seaweed, curry roux and usually one of the wrestlers is selling it to you. I've had my beer poured by Yamakawa and had a frank cooked by Frank Ohashi. Go to one of their shotengai shows if you ever get the chance. Kids get to train in the ring, very family friendly with no death stuff, and whatever food and drink you can get from the shotengai. One time a tiny liquor store had a keg of beer out on the sidewalk with an old woman selling cheap draft beer. I endorse everything in your post except for the umeshu and cheesecake. I'm a little picky. -
I've seen pictures of someone from the family making yakisoba at outdoor spot shows. No cooking at Korakuen Hall. They did what happens in some books and movies of taking two things that happened (yakisoba at wrestling shows and wrestling at Korakuen) and combined them together for the story. I have seen yakisoba made at the merch tables outside of Shin-Kiba sometimes.
-
Did they have the rookie matches that went from endless bodyslams and dropkicks to the shoot finish pinfall back then? How about the weird martial arts matches? Of course matches that mattered had booked finishes.

I haven't started Rampage and Collision from 9/6 yet. They have more skippable and ff material on their shows this year. I have erased a couple of shows when I fell three weeks behind watching. I'm starting to think that I just don't like English language TV wrestling anymore. They also have way too many wrestlers. I haven't gone to see them because I don't know if the wrestlers I like will be on the show.
