  1. I loved KENTA's various runs in ROH, particularly his 2 matches with Danielson from GBH 2006 and the second PPV in 2007, and the match against Hero on Hdnet in 2009. Special mention also to his threeway vs Joe and Danielson from 2006 where they all seemed like they were trying to legitimately hurt each other, is there a reason Joe vs Kenya never took place one on one?
  2. I have loads of ROH DVDs from the beginning to the present day and reading this thread has made me want to go back and watch them all again: Off the top of my head as far as memorable matches/cards go, the first ones I remember watching and being absolutely blown away by were the three way main event from the first ever ROH show - Low Ki vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Bryan Danielson, and then from the second show, Ki vs Danielson with Ken Shamrock as the guest referee. Both of these matches seemed state of the art to me at the time, and really turned me on to watching things away from the WWE, which is pretty much all I was watching at the time. I recently rewatched the Ki vs Danielson match and it still holds up (commentary trumpeting it MOTY aside) and this is certainly a match I would recommend as a top tier ROH match, both by itself and also in the greater context of what it meant for ROH in establishing the tone and style of the promotion going forward. Other matches that spring to mind are pretty much the whole of the original Manhattan Mayhem card from 2005, which has both the Aries/Shelley match and a fine example of a Whitmer/Jacobs vs Strong/Evans match which have been discussed earlier in this thread, as well as Joe vs Lethal, Gibson vs Black Tiger (Rocky Romero), Rave vs Punk (Dog Collar!), McGuinness vs Cabana, and the impromptu Homicide/Low Ki vs Lethal/Joe main event (Cop-Killer/Doublestomp!) with an incredible crowd and atmosphere. Speaking of Gibson, his 2005 run was incredible, and I think the matches where he won and lost the title should also be in the discussion. I will have another look at my collection and put some more up later, excellent idea for a topic!
  3. We're being pretty lenient on the definition of "film" now... And 'women'.
  4. This gets extra points from me for the bit where Legolas gave Bolg a running hurricanrana off the side of a collapsing tower as it was falling down the side of a mountain. Agreed about the missing subplots although hopefully they will release an extended cut next year with extra footage. Fwiw this film was 'only' 2.5 hours long which is pretty short for a Jackson Tolkein film...
  5. Cena vs Harper on RAW that time was great, also loved the Shield/Wyatt's rematch from just after Elimination Chamber with Rollins going crazy!
  6. Last I remember was a Summerslam 96 preshow loss to Austin wherein the ropes/turnbuckle snapped He came back randomly as a heel with Cornette and jobbed to HBK soon afterwards, either this or the Survivor Series 96 elimination match was his last televised match I think...
  7. I haven't read them for a while but Pride and Passion:Stampede Wrestling, and Stu Hart: Lord of the Ring, are good companion pieces in going through the history of Stampede Wrestling. I also liked Sex Lies and Headlocks as something on the overall US scene post WWII but again haven't read that for ages so not sure if it hold up. Also loved The Wrestling by Simon Garfield as a great look at WOS British scene...
  8. Great, thanks, look forward to going through this even more now!
  9. Awesome, cheers, any gems in particular? I was thinking of Stud Stable stuff but not sure if that is later in the year?
  10. I have just acquired WCW Saturday Night 1994 and 1999 (and Heat 1999). Can anyone recommend matches from these seasons? I have seen Regal vs Zbysko from 1994 but not much else!
  11. I don't think he had a singles match in ROH, good showings in multi man tag marches with Jimmy Rave and Alex Shelley against Gen Next at the end of 2005 and at the 2006 Trios Tournament.
  12. Finlay and Funk wrestled in Germany, it's on a handheld and part of the Goodhelmet Finlay comp, great match!
  13. And then Michaels transitioned pretty smoothly into the Jericho feud immediately after the Batista one - it was very organically done and one of my favorite recent WWE runs...
  14. Didn't Swagger also injure Ziggler in a similar spot last year? He seems a bit reckless with weapons...
  15. I like the January 2006 one on Smack down that Angle won for the Championship. Also the one mid 2011 where Mark Henry killed the Usos
  16. That's awesome, wish he'd hit someone with this sticks though...
  17. I would have liked to see all of this match... [/media]
  18. I thought the DX 2006 imitation of Vince and Shane was the best part of that run.
  19. Maybe it was the day of the election Lawler was running in in Memphis?
  20. This is sad, I loved his Big Daddy V run in ECW - great monster heel booking, throwing Boogeyman through a blackboard, squashing jobbers in handicap matChe's, destroying Dreamer in a Hardcore match. Shame his match with CM Punk for the title wasn't up to much as I totally brought into him winning the belt by that point. Still, his later team with Mark Henry looked very intimidating and was too short lived. RIP.
  21. I loved the whole Benoit/MVP series, although it ended on a slight downer with the Judgement Day match, I loved the way the way the matches and finishes built on each other. The best match, though, was the fantastic one from Smackdown - they also IIRC, announced a hardcore match at Extreme Rules, which was cancelled in the same week...
  22. I have all the ovw TV stuff from 2000 and 2001, are their listings for these anywhere?
  23. Excuse me if I'm missing something really obvious, but did Yojozuna ever get a televised rematch against Bret following WM10?
  24. The Eddy thing was in his comeback right after No Mercy 2000 when he in as much said that he wasn't going to give anyone who wasn't a main eventer any offence in order to make him look as strong as possible after his return. He squashed Eddy and others on RAW around this time and was criticised for it online. He ended up kick starting hishis run of good matches against Angle and Benoit in November/December. I particularly remember a match with Benoit where Austin was booked to go toe to toe with him. In wrestling holds with commentators putting his wrestling ability over strong... He definitely did want to work Eddy in 2002, yes.
  25. That will likely be Sandow's best match of his career. I didn't think he'd win it at the start and by the end I was sure he'd get a 3 week reign. If that's the match on 28 October then that has been included - I would agree that it is his best match, although from this year there were a couple of fun sprints vs Cody from Summerslam and the TV afterwards (not on the list), and a few good ones against Sheamus (one of which did make the list). Incidentally I think Sheamus really made Sandow look his equal in those matches, and he is pretty good at doing that in general when working with people just below him....
