  1. I'd be curious to see how Tiger would fare in the Pure Division. That's too good an idea for him not to at least do a job for young Yuta. This tag bout sadly gave me doubts about the Boys From Brazil. Before the bell, they look great, and I have been impressed with Bononi's job duties, but together here they looked awkward and lost. That said, are they worth developing? Again, they look great. Tully's got his team, but could we bring back Nana? I'm not sure I'm ready to attempt willing it into existence, but I like the idea of Brock being a towel boy, and sometimes third for FTR. And his old man managing. But then two on the outside is a bad idea for a babyface - see the American Nightmare for reference. FTR make everybody other than the Lucha Brothers look their best, but in particular their Rampage bout with Brock/Lee had young Anderson looking like a (quarter of a) million bucks. I don't think we should count him out yet. Ppl counted out the Gunns and Wheeler Yuta, and they were proven impatient with both. There's a precedent in AEW of letting seemingly bland youngsters, like Brock, develop before giving them any reason. I do like that mask idea tho. I bet it'll work in the long game for Vance. It's totally fair to rate Kaz as a nothing happening guy, but he's great in his role of testing out newcomers, and taking a loss for an ascending talent. That said, how would you feel about them moving him to the new ROH, moving him to the midcard, and perhaps in a heel role? That's kinda where I hope he lands. He and Daniels, but not as a team. ROH might be in need of a new Prophecy. The QT pants-ing was a nice bit of comedy wrestling. Thanks @The Naturalfor that clip. How did that not get into the clip package for Chris Jericho's 'Sports Entertainer of the Week'? Or did it - am I forgetting? Oh yeah, the Workhorsemen rule. Let's Will them onto the ROH roster!
  2. Ha, okay, I guess a kneedrop to the teeth is a nice piece of business. Still, I dig his commitment to the Superfly Splash. And I get ya. In all honesty, I think you probably liked it more than I did on first view.
  3. Human beings are made up of multitudes. We all have strengths and weaknesses. I have nothing but love for the provider of this fantastic product. Nobody should be on twitter. Other than maybe the joyful comedians like the Nyla Roses. Or Naylor. Velvet over Willow Nightingale was one of the few moments in this company's history where I felt like 'the made person' got an undeserving win. Tho, unlike the E at it's finest, I can understand the decision.
  4. I dig your analysis (as per usual), and understand the comparison, but, in conclusion, it feels a little too much at the sake of overshadowing this great match. Side by side I would definitely take the Danielson match, but no reason to resist two great matches both unique in their presentation. You hit the nail on the head - he's bloody surviving here. I was fine with the Superfly Splash. I think that was about the biggest one he's hit, and likely to make that move special going forth. And why not a straight up Splash? Who needs rotations? Between Yuta's and Jonah's devastating finisher version I'm sold in 2022. I mention all this moreso because I had a similar personal issue with the Bucks-FTR-Briscoes situation, so enamoured with the former, and it overshadowed the latter. But found the antidote with an encore viewing. On this show, we had a fine match with Trent and Dragon overshadowed by the Main. Going back, I'm as enamoured as most here with that opener. Note: going back means watching the far superior FITE version of this show.
  5. Unlike most weeks I haven't read the spoilers, and will be rooting for a big Willow win. For Velvet, I'd like to see a string of losses, a heel turn, and a moratorium on the awkward finisher. She can stir it up all she wants with a proper heel agenda. Some big matches. And I'm not complaining about a Swerve-QT battle either.
  6. I can't remember a piece of heel chicanery I've enjoyed in recent history more than Lethal's lowblow. Gresham-Bandido and Woods-Yuta were also excellent and forgotten by the Briscoes-FTR classic.
  7. Could be, but I suspect the guys who worked the Supercard are at the very least under consideration. Hoping Dalton Castle gets a chance to shine. Titus isn't somebody I'd root for to get signed, but he did a helluva job dropping the belt to Suzuki. My guess is we'll see a number of former talents brought in sparringly for job duty or a short program. @RIPPAWas there any other ROH updates in the Observer this week?
  8. What an exceptional run this company is on! Bucks-FTR was definitely their silver medal match after the gold against Mark and Jay. To be fair to the excellence of this bout's execution, I needed to shed that Briscoes comparison and give this Bucks match a second spin. And it definitely worked! Wherever it lands in the MOTY polls, this was a classic! Christian-Cole put on a nice opener. I'm a fan of Cole's scumbaggery, but I do think he'd benefit from a little less spot repetition. I don't know how Christian's knees survived that dive to the floor. So too Joe's dive. Nice debut for the big man. Even in a sound loss, Caster continues to impress, and both he and Bowens are clearly headed for future Main Events. I absolutely love Heel Jay Lethal!! His low blow at Supercard (should've got that in the package there) and everything that followed was outstanding. Excellent promo here. I also love heel manager Sonjay Dutt. What's the big surprise for Joe!?! The Wardlow run-ins are fun, but two's enough for me. Eddie Kingston's intensity and delivery is remarkable and can make most anything work - even a kinda ridiculous 'we'll commit crimes and announce them to the public beforehand' promo. Santana's portion was weak here, but I still love him. Tho he didn't really say anything special Ortiz continues to surprise on the mic. I'm not sure why, but I loved Hager as the getaway driver. Also, nice way to start a promo segment. Jade's a big bright shining star, and it seems impossibly not to love her. Hayter-Storm had some forced sports entertainment (seemed like quite a lot on this show), but whatever, Hayter and Storm have each other in their crosshairs - so the end result is magnificent! I dug Julia and Shida just fine. The crowd seems to be hip to the greatness of Serena Deeb! God bless Boston! They need to do some PPV shows there. Impressive crowd. And... Re: The Tables Match First, it might be the influence of Eric from Segunda Caida's love of vulnerable performers (late era Andre etc), but I'm digging the Hardys. I mean I assume the pained expressions are the real deal, but could it be at least a little of the Boyz beautifully selling of their pain? I was early to shitting on their late 90s throwback attire, but I've grown very amused and accepting. Also, the Blade was really great in this dumb match. I have little doubt that TK didn't see, like everybody over here, how wonky this came off. I'd love it if AEW called a moratorium on this senseless 'Tables Match' because of what we saw here. Anybody else feel like tables in general are pretty fuckin stale in 2022?
  9. Darby seems like a somewhat tasteful dude. Let's get the 'will it for Dynamite' DVDVR team on it being the next pre-match Darby short film. I bet he could have a fantastic match with Penta. Is there any word on Rey Fenix?
  10. Their appearance in the 'Road To' video is giving me a glimmer of hope. Goddamn I love the Briscoes.
  11. I'd love to see these guys get a shot. And maybe a wee bit more cohesive team look.
  12. I really dug the Pure Title Match. I do think they need to provide a tidier presentation of said rules. I'd like to see a video package that showcases the rules with highlights of previous bouts. Or something new that's nicely filmed. The billboard of rules as is looks like a lot of jargon that is easily missed for a newcomer. I wasn't a newcomer but my pal was and she was full of questions that could have been better answered. I assume those numbers are PPV buys only(?). I wonder what the Honor Club numbers look like. That's how I streamed this. Also, curious as to how these numbers compare with past shows. I'm guessing this is a huge leap. And I'm hoping this helps, as TK alluded to in the post scrum, in getting them a weekly timeslot. The future looks very bright for this Ring of Honor.
  13. Really interesting seeing a Cody Rhodes WWE promo. Definitely upped the ante on the 'ACTING'! Sliding in a few inappropriate faces that should, at least going forward, help garner some of that mixed reaction he claims to love. 'I'm an avid reader' was perfect alongside all the forced diction. The hammy tears for the father plea... This promo laid out quite nicely the fairly clear distinctions between how the big two in general present promos. Especially those involving amped up emotion.
  14. Oh man, I have no memory at all of this. I was a big fan of both teams. The Stampeders more so for Flyin Brian. As a regular viewer of both the AWA and Stanpede, these two namesake teams locking horns was absolutely a dream match for me. Tho I much preferred the DDP led Tanaka-Diamond team. Now I’m wondering did Pat Tanaka and Pillman ever do battle? Or for that matter did Paul Diamond and Pillman ever square off? To the topic, Bruce seems like an excellent choice. I don’t remember thinking a whole lot of Keith either. I assume I could be proven wrong on Keith tho.
  15. I bought Honor Club for the fantastic PPV, but wondering if anybody has any suggestions for other content? Of the more recent ROH, I've only really seen the shows I saw live at Ted Revee Arena here in Toronto. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I'm sure Tony is competitive enough to want to be number 1, but I could honestly care less. I just want them to do what they're currently doing, be profitable, and be where the best wrestlers want to wrestle. And can be paid comparably to do so. I guess I should have been clearer on the 'Bischoff desperation' comment - referring more to stuff like Jay Leno, Master P and the Kiss deal. The nWo is maybe my favorite angle in the history of wrestling and clearly a winner. I have a great deal of respect for where Bischoff led WCW to, but I won't or don't disregard the rest of the story.
  17. Perhaps I'm wrong. Can somebody pull up the year to year numbers on AEW's ratings? I'd heard a pretty substantial percentage increase from the shows happening in March of last year in comparison to 2022. Obviously growth is important, but growth seems steady enough for Warner Media to be happy. A happiness that will no doubt result in a substantial rights pay increase. I don't see the issue.
  18. How many weeks, or days, before Cody becomes an afterthought by the non or casual WWE viewers that have been locked into this (pretty legitimately exciting) story? The WWE roster is full of super talented ppl, like Steen and Zayn and a few of the ladies for example, that I love, but I never watch WWETV to see any of them. I don't see Cody attracting my attention anymore than wanting to see his Mania debut (which I liked). I'm sure I'll check out a clip of him on Raw, but I have doubts that I'll be following up much more than that. Curious how others feel on this.
  19. If you examine the pretty fantastic escalating numbers, year to year, in ratings and PPV buys it would suggest there's nothing they need to do, but continue putting on the best weekly pro wrestling show in at least 20 years. I like that they aren't making Bischoff-WCW-like desperation moves to fast track that. They're staying true to the vision and it's working beautifully. I feel little doubt they'll be the number 1 wrestling show on cable by some point in the not so distant future.
  20. Dug Bailey-Bandido and Moxley-Biff. Is there anything on any of the Indie shows (non ROH) that's been up to that level? Just watched the Ki/Homicide-Briscoes Main Event. Love to know what set Low Ki off. I did hear the fan yell something to the effect of ' you're blacklisted' after returning to his seat. Both Ki and Homicide came across horribly with their cornball mic work. Homicide actually said something incredibly lame like 'I fucked your girlfriend last night', and then followed by stroking the microphone as if it were his dick. What a fucking bonehead! Didn't leave a great impression.
  21. Beyond the unification match, I wonder how long await until Purrazzo's contractual obligations are complete? Let's get her out of the Impact Zone and onto a Turner station already.
  22. Joe killing it at the media scrum. Great promo on the potential Gold (around the 49:00 minute mark). Maybe it's the influence of how beautifully Taz, at a somewhat similar stature (at least in comparison to the competition), carried himself in ECW, but I really wanna see Gresham get an obnoxious whistle blowing manager like Fonzie. The potential benefits for him to offset his stellar in ring with a mouthpiece could be greatly beneficial. Josh Woods would also certainly benefit from a similar partnering. Smooth in ring, a bit clumsy elsewhere. He could also benefit from a better presentation - better ring gear, something more trad. Something in line with the Angles, Alexanders and Varsity Clubs. It looks promising for Dalton Castle sticking around. It's difficult to gage his health, but he was certainly bumping all around against the not so impressive (here) Hendry. Really dig his act and wanna see him get something to work with. Tully Blanchard Enterprises will be a joy to see watch and grow. It might be wishful thinking, but I'm curious if he can help get Brian Cage on the right path. Of this new faction, Kaun seems to me to be the true potential breakout star tho. Let's hope that Visa issue gets sorted with Bandido. Who does Chavito bring in for revenge? I'll gladly take the return of Dragon Lee and his brother Rooosh. Or the Kings of Wrestling.
  23. Rampage was the cherry on top of a great Friday night of wrestling. I love the direction Rampage has been taking - specifically cutting less important gaga (entrances) for essential services. This in no way punted opposite the ROHPPV. Dug most everything here. Not so much a complaint, but I'd like to see Danhausen tighten up his promo. Bucks, Top Flight, Hayter, House of Black, Fuego, Grayson, are all gasoline on the fire that is AEW. Keith Lee and Hobbs was Holy Hoss fucking gold, and everything that followed was just as great. Hobbs promo was excellent too. It's a slow and steady rise to the top for the Papapowerhouse!
  24. That Lowell Memorial Auditorium is beautiful! Yeah, that would be incredible. I'd love for somebody to start a thread of photographs of those early Monday Night Raw venues. Amongst other comprably attractive spots. Very happy with FTR in the mix, but also like the idea of rotating other special AEW attractions in. Also, a few vets stationed like Joe, Lethal and Mercedes Martinez. And fingers crossed - the Briscoes. That said, my hope for this roster is mainly a mix of emerging acts. 'The not ready for prime time players'. Tho, who knows, coming out of this PPV it does sorta feel like the whole thing could suddenly catch fire.
  25. I was and am still trying to gage this as well. I think maybe it could be likened to the fruitful trading that used to take place in the territory system, or the 90s WWF Memphis relationship. It'll be interesting to see this roster take shape. It's interesting that they didn't announce any further dates (or did I miss such a thing?). I hope they find there way to the root Northeast cities soon. Maybe a Manhattan Center return. A nice mid-sized venue in Philly - the old ECW Arena? And here to Toronto. It'll be interesting to see what kind of venues they work. Geez, there are so many interesting questions going forth. What an excellent start tho. Was Lord Regal not advertised? Or were they announcing he'd simply be in attendance? Perhaps they misspoke, but I thought I heard commentary say he'd be joining them for Yuta-Woods? I may have been daydreaming? I was definitely daydreaming a Kings of Wrestling debut. I saw them alongside a salty Chavo.
