  1. I've been bored, depressed, and stuck in the house for 2 months, so I've been playing shitloads o' games! Darkest Dungeon: I put this down until it's out of early access, but it's so goddamn good. Fiddling with classes, abilities, and positioning to optimize your squad is incredibly satisfying. The combat is basically "JRPG, but better," although I wish it wasn't quite so RNG-dependent. Sunless Sea: I want to like this more than I actually do. It has so much personality and flavor, but the gameplay feels lacking to me. I love the idea of news and stories being a kind of in-game currency, but the way it's implemented makes it feel like I'm just finding the correctly-shaped peg to put into a whole to move the quests along. And the combat, at least in early game, is not satisfying at all. I'm hoping this is like FTL and just takes some time to get going. Helldivers: It's like Smash TV meets Destiny meets Starship Troopers. So dumb and fun and fast, but with lots of great design decisions. Little things like having to enter a Konami-code style pattern to get resupply and support drops, and then having the possibility and getting smashed like a bug by your own drop, add another layer of interest to the shooting. Guacamelee - Great look, great combat, I wish there was a bit more exploration. The puzzle-type rooms are enjoyable and well-designed. Escape Goat 2: It's a puzzle/platformer. It does its job admirably, if unexceptionally. Civilization V: HOW DID I GET SO BAD AT CIV!?
  2. I am definitely getting sick and I am way in the hole on time off from work so I guess I get to tough this one out.
  3. I got out of the flash sale with only Don't Starve, Escape Goat, and Peggle 2. I also picked up Helldivers because it looked ridiculous and, surprise, it is! If anybody wants to Helldive I am BurrOul on the PSN.
  4. She ruptured her patellar tendon in January of '13. She has a genetic condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome in which your body doesn't produce collagen correctly, which among other things gives you weak tendons that tear easily, and really fucks up the healing process. So the repair, and then replacement, they did back then didn't take so they tried to go back in and repair it this year and she got an infection. We've been dealing with the consequences of that. I was going to bitch about the flat tire I got this morning, but it seems kinda small next to y'all's stuff.
  5. My girlfriend is going in for her 4th knee surgery in 2 months this Friday. Getting real tired of the hospital.
  6. I'm right there with you. I love the idea of playing RPGs but I'm really not willing to invest that kind of time in video games anymore. All of save folders have like five different saves with 5-10 hours on each because I'll stop playing for 6 months, forget where I was or what I was doing, and have to start over.
  7. I think the idea of a black-focused culture/sports site makes tons of sense. Hiring Whitlock to run it, and giving him the amount of leeway they have, is such a self-evidently terrible idea.
  8. There's no way Simmons has the available cash on hand to bankroll that himself. Which means bringing in investors, so now has bosses to answer to. And then they would have to build a CMS, hire technical, marketing, and editorial staff, people to manage all of that staff, develop relationships with sponsors, and all the other shit that comes with starting a new company. Whereas if he partners with an existing company most of that infrastructure already exists and he can just plug into it.
  9. I think Turner and Yahoo make the most sense for him since they both have the combination of an established online platform and experience with TV/Video production. HBO has the benefit of indulging his starfucker tendencies, but I don't think they'd commit the resources that he'd want.
  10. I think Fox Sports would literally murder to get him, but they're in this weird place where their coverage is way too rinky-dink to attract the kind of talent that would make it not rinky-dink.
  11. I can't imagine them just closing it outright unless Simmons has some kind of licensing deal with the name. Maybe roll it in together with Whitlock's new site with someone besides Whitlock as EIC. I'm curious to see who follows him out the door. I think Lowe will go wherever he does, although I wouldn't be surprised if Turner made a strong play for him. I could easily see Rembert heading to Salon, Slate, or somewhere similar.
  12. Word around the campfire is that Simmons and ESPN ended negotiations and are parting ways. EDIT: New York Times is confirming.
  13. I've got some real bad news for you...
  14. On the one hand it's probably pretty awesome to be bros with James Dolan because you're guaranteed a high-profile six-figure job no matter what kind of degenerate fuckup you are. On the other hand he probably expects you to go to all of his band's shows and who has the patience for that?
  15. Because Jim Dolan is a never-ending font of terrible ideas, Isiah Thomas will be the new president of the New York Liberty.
  16. Donovan to OKC is for real. 5 yrs, no word on the money yet. I'm skeptical about him. His college teams have historically been average or below-average on shooting 3s and getting to the line, which are the bread and butter of NBA offense these days.
  17. I've heard good things about ACBAS and will probably pick that up at some point. Although I've been playing a bunch of Dwarf Fortress and Banished lately so the whole scrabbling by and trying not to starve aspect sounds appealing to me.
  18. I got my tax return and there have been some good sales so I've been on a game guying kick recently: Love Letter - Very fast and light, but doesn't really work with only 2 players. Haven't had the chance to try it with more yet. Forbidden Island - Plays like a slightly stripped-down pandemic, although I like the flooding mechanic better than the outbreak mechanic. Agricola - I just got this one and haven't had a chance to play it yet. It looks...daunting. It doesn't help that the rulebook is pretty shit in terms of organization and explanation. Should be giving this one a try this weekend. Descent 2nd ed - Should come in the mail tomorrow. I've been wanting to play this for years so I'm really looking forward to trying it out.
  19. That avocado one is fuckin' harsh, man.
  20. Paul Pierce's troll game is off the charts:
  21. I have reached peak PC gaming because I already own all the games in that from other bundles and haven't played most of them.
  22. Anybody who votes for DPOY based on rebound numbers should be forced to watch hours of Kevin Love post defense, Clockwork Orange style.
  23. I would take Draymond by a hair because of games played and I think he's a more versatile defender. But Leonard's ability to generate steals without getting out of position is mind-boggling. His hands are so incredibly good. You really can't go wrong with either. What's pretty messed up is that a third of the voters left Green off of their ballot entirely. How the fuck does that happen?
