  1. This, generously, is complete nonsense and a profound misreading of the 6th amendment.
  2. I'm sorry, what civil liberty is being violated by the public believing credible assault accusations against someone? Must be stuck somewhere in the back of the constitution. If I started ranking my concerns about the world "The public is overly credulous towards rape accusations" would not crack the top 500.
  3. You're creating rights where none exist. Right to due process is not actually a thing outside of a courtroom; folks on the internet (and everywhere else) can make their opinions based on whatever evidence they choose. The only difference is that people stopped giving the benefit of the doubt to the perpetrators and started giving it to the victims. Absent a contract, the answer would be 'no'; you can fire someone for any reason except for their membership in a protected class. With a contract it's going to depend on the specific contractual language. The realistic answer is that if this scenario actually happened and the actor sued the studio would almost certainly settle to keep their business out of the street. In this case the actor's legal recourse would be against the person who made the false accusation.
  4. Did I miss all the dudes getting thrown in jail without a trial?
  5. I had the Nexii 5 & 6 and really liked both of them. But part of the appeal was that they were an affordable flagship phone and the Pixel phones dropped the affordable part. I ended up getting the Note 8. AT&T had a deal where you got $300 credit if you traded in a phone, and my Nexus managed to behave itself through the inspection, so it ended up being cheaper than the S8. I like it so far; the narrower screen means it fits better in my hand than the N6 did. But because of the weird aspect ratio there's a fair bit of wasted space on the screen when you're actually using it. The stylus is neat but not something I can see using a ton. And TouchWiz is actually good now? I was not prepared for that.
  6. LaVar Ball is a loudmouth but the NCAA is a criminal fuckin' conspiracy so if he can find a path for his kids (well, for LaMelo) to the NBA that avoids it then more power to him.
  7. Ugh, I dropped my Nexus 6 a few days ago and now it's being slow, freezing up, and not always charging. Dammit, I really liked this phone and don't want to replace it. I'd like to get a Pixel 2 but can't really justify dropping all that money on myself right before Christmas, so I'll probably get an S8 or Note 8 through AT&T and pay it off over time.
  8. He's the spokesman for loudmouthed pricks who want to know why it's ok for rappers to say the n-word but not them.
  9. Independent of Michael Rapaport being dumb as a rock, who is paying good money to go to a Wag the Dog retrospective? It was, like, the 56th best movie of 1997. Back on topic: This NY Times story about the fucking infrastructure that Weinstein built to cover for being a raping-ass rapist is absolutely chilling and goes a long way to answering the "How could this go on for so long?" question.
  10. Honestly one of the dumbest things Mark Emmert has said, and that's a high bar to clear.
  11. "Fake Ricky Morton cousin gimmick" is the "cellar door" of pro wrestling phrases.
  12. The dude was so indie it hurt: a doughy white guy with a shiny sleeveless shirt/pants combo and a very Nova-ish move set. I love him. I also miss all the late-90s early 2000s whose gimmick and name was entirely based on vaguely resembling a WCW/WWF star: i.e. Dave Mysterio, Dave Jericho, Big Slam Vader.
  13. I will always have a soft spot for Supreme Lee Great.
  14. LiAngelo Ball has reportedly withdrawn from UCLA.
  15. Production has stopped on Bryan Singer's Freddy Mercury biopic due to Singer's "unexpected unavailability" so I expect that shoe to drop any day now.
  16. If my parents ever discover reaction gifs I am walking directly into the ocean. They cannot be trusted with that power.
  17. Man, learning how to set and enforce boundaries with people, especially family, is probably the best skill I've picked up as an adult. As my dad used to say "You have to love your family, but you don't have to like them" and my codicil "and you sure don't have to take shit off of them."
  18. Today's heads on pikes are Russel Simmons (raped Sidney Lumet's daughter in the 90s and lots of other creepy behavior) and playwright Israel Horowitz, who you may know as Ad-Rock's dad (abused a whole bunch of ladies).
  19. I figure for $40/year if I get a couple of decent games out of it, that plus the cloud saves and online play makes it worth it.
  20. Apparently Keillor was another one of those open secrets and everyone in public radio knew he was a creep. What a world.
  21. Oh boy, Garrison Keillor fired by MPR for inappropriate behavior. I don't know why these still surprise me but this one sure did.
