  1. Wow, I had somehow never read the Eartha Kitt/Lady Bird story. Eartha kicked so much ass. My great-grandpa was a fairly big player in the Texas Democratic party when LBJ was coming so there are a lot of family stories about him coming over to the house and being way-too-friendly with my then-teenaged grandma and her sister.
  2. Your opinions about meeting presidents are whatever but LBJ was one of the all-time great crazy people and would be fascinating to meet, even though there's like a 70% chance he would show you his hog. I would meet any president presented to me so I could either have a conversation with them (LBJ, Carter, Obama) or yell at them (the field).
  3. He looks like a very good kitty to whom you gave a long and happy life. My condolences.
  4. My official position is that $3k is insultingly low for Fred Van Vleet and I hope he got a lot more that we don't know about.
  5. I've gotten to the point in my life where I'm infinitely more annoyed by grammar pedantry than by bad grammar.
  6. Congratulations to your 2013 NCAA Champion Michigan Wolverines!
  7. Holy shit, Hamhock, that's amazing. What was the story with Rick Rude leaving WWF in the middle of his program with Big Boss Man back in 1990? Boss Man was lil' Zimbra's favorite wrestler and I was very sad that feud never got blown off.
  8. Pete Thamel has an article up suggesting the ongoing FBI investigation is going to blow up a lot of top-tier programs. The breathless tone makes me think he's overselling it, but he's generally a pretty reliable reporter. And college sports could sure stand to get blown up. I was at Wisconsin's win over Purdue last night and it was lots o' fun. They did one of those 3D projection things on the court before the game, which is super-cool to see live. They retired Frank Kaminsky's jersey at halftime and he gave a really nice speech while absolutely stunting in a red suit and matching Jordans. And I got to see a court-storming live for the first time. The game itself was dogshit, but it was nice to see one bright spot in this UW season.
  9. Whoa, there's a new Dr Octagon track out and apparently there's an album on the way!
  10. "Whites and high yallers only"
  11. Well, that's horrifying and racist, but it's also amusing to imagine an AABL youtube highlight video set to Pat Boone that's all bounce passes and set shots.
  12. Between college, the NBA, the And1 tour, and the D-league it's a pretty crowded space. There have been various attempts at creating alternative basketball leagues over the past few years which have mostly crashed and burned, so I'm not sure it makes any more sense than making a new football league, except insofar as the costs would be lower. The real reason is that basketball is just too "urban" for what Vince is going for.
  13. The Stop Making Sense versions of Life During Wartime and Slippery People will always be definitive to me.
  14. It is such a cool, weird, flawed story and I love it a lot. I'm trying to put together a D&D campaign that's loosely based on Seven Soldiers and I really hope it actually comes together.
  15. No idea, but they were delicious and I looked like 1981 John Belushi after I ate one.
  16. So, my downstairs neighbor died in her condo last year. No idea how, I came home and the medical examiner was here. It sat empty for a while and eventually sold and new neighbors moved in. Yesterday I was googling my address to find out how old our building is and the first result was the Redfin listing from when the downstairs unit was on the market. What was the first line of the listing? Owners' change of circumstance is your benefit! What the hell, realtors?
  17. And an hour after I post this my D&D session for tonight gets cancelled because work stuff came up for the DM.
  18. That sounds a lot like my copy of Netrunner. We both enjoyed Dominion, so I got it to play with the wife but she was not into the deckbuilding aspects at all. And no one else I know plays so it just sadly collects dust on the shelf.
  19. Maybe your son could try an LCG like Netrunner? I'm not super familiar with it but it seems to be less pay-to-win than CCGs. I'm really glad I got back into D&D but I hardly ever get to actually play since getting 5 adults together on a regular basis is like herding cats.
  20. While I am universally in favor of people bringing donuts for their coworkers, why would you only bring powdered sugar-covered jelly donuts, the one donut that is completely impossible to eat in public without making an absolute mess? Still ate one, though.
  21. If I were an insane rich person I would happily go broke bankrolling weird, psychadelic Grant Morrison series that would be incomprehensible to and hated by almost everyone. Like a Seven Soliders of Victory miniseries or Jodorowsky's Final Crisis. Also, it's Image instead of Marvel/DC but I think you could make a pretty dope Godland animated series.
  22. Give me my I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League movie, dammit! Or at the very least a Booster/Blue Beetle buddy comedy.
  23. Man, I don't even know what to say to this. Actually, you know who would be fucking awesome as Barda? The woman who played the dora milaje in Civil War/Black Panther. I don't know if she's physically large enough but you can CGI that shit. EDIT: Florence Kasumbo!
  24. I wonder if they'll try to go in a GotG direction with the Green Lantern Corps movie.
