  1. So the Final Fantasy V Four Job Fiesta begins pre-registration June 1. I'll be signing up, and thought I'd share it here in case anyone wants in.

    MLB 2014: MAY

I wasn't factoring in independent baseball. I'm a little iffy in it mainly because it costs the same to go to a game with unaffiliated teams as it does to go to Wilmington or Trenton and see potential MLB stars (or current stars in a rehab game). I read articles on nj.com talking about the Newark Bears closing up shop, and beyond the usual "LOLZ NEWARK IS DANGEROUS" comments there are plenty of valid reasons brought up for that; the controversy over the Mets refusing to let the Yankees put their Triple-A affiliate in Newark while their stadium in Wilkes-Barre was being renovated (which would have brought more attention and interest to the park even after the farm team left), the fact that one of the ownership groups which included successful baseball guys like the owner of the Somerset team couldn't make it happen and if he couldn't who could, transit issues... kind of a shame for Newark. I wonder if anyone bought the naming rights at the auction. That said, I heard the park in Camden is nice.

    MLB 2014: MAY

For all that I hate about living in Philly as a sports fan I can take comfort in the fact that I'm no more than 90 minutes away from four minor-league baseball teams. Thinking of taking in a Wilmington Blue Rocks game on my birthday, m'self.
  4. About as much as the guys who came up with the Quizno's ads featuring those things from rathergood.com all those years ago.
  5. Hey, guys, I can drop cable now that there's no sports in Philly to follow until the fall!
  6. We bury him today. There's going to be an assload of emotions running throughout.
  7. Which store? If you say Jay Street, I'll spit.
  8. Legitimately curious what time a FF VI speed run puts up. I beat it once in a single sitting as a teenager but that involved pulling an overnighter and I think was about 17-18 hours.Obviously it can be done much faster than that, but still, it's not like Morrowind where you can do weird shit and "beat" it in 8 minutes. I WANT to say there's a glitch in FF6 that warps you to a point in the World of Ruin, but I'm not sure. The Game Done Quick runs WILL exploit glitches and other nuances of the software (such as always focusing on the ground in Goldeneye since less stuff being rendered on-screen makes the game run faster), so unless a run specifically says something like "100%," you can count on glitch abuse. Just about the only things they don't use are tools and cheat codes.
  9. You and I need to meet up and have a drink if you're in the Philly area.
  10. So I don't know how many people on here follow speedruns, but the lineup for Summer Games Done Quick came out Wednesday, and the lineup looks pretty awesome. There are some gems like Mega Man V GB, a 106% run on Super Meat Boy, and a Final Fantasy VI run. It benefits Doctors Without Borders, too, so it's a worthy cause. Also, check out the blindfold Punch-Out run from Awesome Games Done Quick this January; it's seriously one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in video gaming.
  11. The thing about relief at his passing is... weird. I'm not going to go into details, but he was a complicated man, and his whole ordeal since he tried to kill himself has seen him get pneumonia several times, decide that he was done fighting and got his breathing tubes removed before starting to make a rally back to health. Meanwhile, my wife was on a rope with the ups-and-downs of the process, and his care in the future (if he survived, 24-hour-care was a given), and then the matters of financing it... I know it makes me sound like a piece of shit, but the relief of this ordeal ending is almost as much about being one less major hurdle we'll have to jump as it is about his suffering ending.
  12. My father-in-law passed away last night after 23 weeks in various hospitals. My wife got a call that he got pneumonia again and that the nurses thought this was it. He died ten minutes after she got there, but I was at a focus group at the time. It's hard to know how to feel about this; it's sad that he died like this, but at the same time there's a sense of relief that this whole ordeal is over.
  13. Not to mention the iOS remakes of FFV and VI are abominations to the eyes.
  14. You know what's awesome? Being told you can't test for a position because you didn't already test for it before the opening was announced. After all, we only want hires who can do their jobs with ESP! Man, my home state can really be is ass backwards sometimes.

  16. I don't know how to put pictures on the mobile browser, or else I would put up pictures of my kiddo flying around our front yard in her Supergirl outfit. Also, can I express surprise at how many cute kids were spawned from you ugly mugs? :-P
  17. We took a trip to Giant after I picked her up from the hospital and got her some gelatin and chicken broth. I probably should have suggested Gatorade, but I'll mention it when it comes to hydration.
  18. Thanks guys. We're home now. The tests concluded that she has viral gastroenteritis, or in non-medical terms, a bad case of stomach flu, which is surprising for how much pain she's in (she had a natural birth for our daughter without painkiller, so if she says something hurts, I fucking believe her). She'll be laid up at home and only able to consume clear liquids for a while, but I'm glad it's not something more serious like appendicitis or God forbid cancer.
  19. My wife was complaining about stomach pains this morning. She texted me that they were getting worse and now she's in the hospital. She thinks it might be appendicitis (she already had her gallbladder removed years ago), I just hope it's nothing both serious and complicated.
  20. I voted The Giver. Never heard of most of the other stuff, and I still believe Ted did so well in spite of, not because of, Seth MacFarlane, so I don't think that western he's doing will do so hot. But The Giver will be a hit with the "anyone who had middle school English class" demographic.
  21. Been jumping around games, trying to cut down my backlog. Meanwhile I'm also rolling on Final Fantasy V Advance, in preparation for the Four Job Fiesta this summer. I need to focus on one game at a time, dammit. Too many games, not enough time.
  22. Pretty much. It's why Omega Weapon was designed to ignore level-scaling in VIII and be a nightmare in any challenge. Hell, the main reason I want an HD port of XII with the International version is Trial Mode, aka "Here's a mode where you can actually use the OP equipment you get in the main game from killing all THOSE super bosses." Now if you want to bitch about a boss then Ozma is your guy. Open the battle up with Meteor AND Curse, AND that thing where actions autofill his AT gauge? Fuuuuuuuuck THAT!
