The 2021 WWE Forever Purge - Part 3 of ?
joseph2112 replied to Gonzo's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I guess it's too much to expect a company that is making record money hand over fist to at least honor the contracts that they signed. I'd like a comp of any other company in the world, ever, if it exists. -

I think this is a fair assessment when it comes to network broadcast/cable tv. But when it comes to Peacock, I'm not sure that applies. WWE is just a bit part of giant conglomeration of programming. Peacock has 54 million subscribers, how many are there specifically because of WWE? I don't have the service, but I do have Netflix and I can't think of one single thing they could drop that would make me unsubscribe. -

So if I'm reading the new NXT edict right, WWE's popularity has waned because people do too many drop kicks and 2 3/4 kick outs? If you can't create compelling characters involved in compelling stories, it really doesn't matter how tall/good looking the workers are. -

I remember when the WWECW reboot started sliding in the ratings and the rumor was that Kevin Dunn convinced Vince that the reason was because it didn't look enough like WWE. Which leads me to the NXT stuff. Maybe having a developmental brand with young, muscled up greenhorns is the best thing for future business, I leave that out of it. But 4th and 5th hour Raw with guys who have never done this sort of thing will be an absolute ratings disaster. There is no way they could put that on actual cable tv. -

Just to double back on an ongoing "just let it play out" conversation, while WWE scrambles madly for "real stars" to face Roman and Lashley, Big E remains on the roster. Still there, in exactly the same place he was 7 or so years ago. -

This was leaked out for the male side. Not leaked: Ace's "measurement" requirements for new female talent. -
I'm guarantee Vince sits around dreaming of dealing with his "independent contractors" like this.

Boy I know it's not the case but I would swear it looks like the WWE is leaning itself out for something more than bottom line. Like a sale or something... -

It might just be me, put from hearing all the things Brian has said over the last several years, it seems like all he wanted to do was have "dream matches" with other guys on the roster. And WWE's ungodly amount of TV programming how hard could that really be? You keep the guy happy doing what he wants and he doesn't mess with anything else on the show. They've long since beat down the fans to not expect anything out of his programs anyway. -
2021 Discussion about Wrestling Podcasts
joseph2112 replied to RIPPA's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I'm halfway through the most recent Mid-Atlantic Championship podcast and it is tremendous. It is basically a time piece about the first Jim Crockett Sr Memorial Cup completely through the stuff going on during the TV shows. So while it is lightly narrated by Mike Sempervive, it's 95% promos and commentators talking about upcoming events and mixing in current storylines as well. Just a great listen. -

2021 Post-Mania WWE Purge
joseph2112 replied to ChesterCopperpot's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
If I'm not mistaken, WWE wrestlers are signed to contracts that have a specified length. Do I think WWE should pay them forever? No. If a company is making record profits, do I think they should honor the contracts until the end? Yes I do. The roster is bloated? WHO SIGNED THE TALENT? Can the wrestlers leave halfway through the contract if they wish? No, they can't. This is one sided corporate abuse. -

Actually since I read this about the word "literally" I am wondering: If I am describing something and I use the word "literally" but I also use the air quotes when I say it, do I threaten to create an infinite loop and rip open the space time continuum? -
APRIL 2021 Discussion of Wrestling
joseph2112 replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I doubt Vince sees AEW as competition in the traditional way. WWE's money is locked down on easy street for some time to come. My guess would be it annoys him that another viable company gives the "independent contractors" more independence and choices which takes some of the control away from him and also raises the wages of said performers. -

I think one of the issues is the "more eyeballs" or "casuals" thing. There are none. AEW's casuals are the ones that watch Smackdown/Raw. There isn't anybody out there that is really going to bring any significant numbers in. -

I think it's from the territory days where an outlaw group would run and it would probably usually be in a muddy field somewhere, presumably with 50 fans in attendance. This is how Cornette refers to AEW, which is obviously nonsense. He also predicted AEW woud be out of business by last April with Kenny and the Young Bucks handling creative things. It seems like the more success AEW has the more loony he gets.
