For those who hadn't seen yet - Mad Dog Vachon passed away this morning.

Since I hadn't posted a WOTD yet - might as well make this a tribute to the man

HA! That's exactly what I was coming in to post. I love that commercial so much.

Sad loss. I'm glad he at least got to have his HOF induction in 2010.

For those who have never seen much Vachon at all.

 

 

This is only a snippet of the match but it gives you a sense of a lot of things: 

1) How over late-era Mad Dog was

2) How great his punches were

3) How great his timing could be

4) How he could work the crowd with things like his biting and garner sympathy when being beaten upon.

 

And this is very late into his career. There's footage not hard to find in black and white from when he was younger and more mobile. Here he was a damned old scrapper.

I couldn't find the interview where Mad Dog is building a coffin to put Blackwell in.  There's a clip of it in the HOF thing.
