Discovered that my island had dropped to 4 stars (this was the first time I checked in at least over a year)

It was because parts of the island were a "traffic hazard". Turns out it was all the model fish and bugs that I had neatly placed on display in part of the island.

So clearly there is no real good way to display them other than pretty much ripping up everything else on the island

Hopped on for the first time in - 1 year and 10 months says Raymond and immediately Tia wanted to leave, which is what I'd been trying to have happen when I last played.

So now I'm invested again with a soon to happen villager hunt.

So easy to get pulled back in.

I was reminded a couple of days ago that I have been playing this game for 4 fucking years

It only took three different Octavians to be on my island but I finally got his photo

And I got Marina's a couple of days ago so Operation Get All the 8 Limbed folks is working out

I have now seen thirteen of the forty-three paintings and sculptures in New Horizons in real life.

Manet's "A Bar at the Folies-Bergere" is the latest one, and it's a fun painting. I never noticed the trapeze artist in the upper-left corner until I stood in front of it.

Turner's "The Fighting Temeraire" is my favorite, but I'm a Turner stan, so there's also that.

Damn, that's pretty impressive.  I'm only at 3.5: Sunday on La Grande Jatte, Great Wave, the Sowers, and the cast of the The Thinker that's in the national gallery in DC.

You can knock off like six or seven of them just by going to London. I basically have seen almost everything in London-Paris-Amsterdam.

I wish I had known that the Rodin Museum a) was in Paris and b) had the original Thinker when I was there.

I have seen a cast of David at the Vic and Albert, so that'd be a .5 to the total. 🙂

After being unable to locate my Switch after two years (I have a sneaky suspicion it was stolen during our move) and acquiring a Switch 2 last week, I am back on Animal Crossing.

Had to start a whole new island and everything but I'm giving it another go for something to do.

Judging from the fact that it's been about five months since anyone posted here I'm guessing the DVDVR Animal Crossing community is no more.

I think it is just me - I still play almost every day (I maybe miss two days a month max)

I should note that when I eventually get a Switch 2 (which will be awhile) - there is no fucking way I am starting over

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a new AC sometime next year, given its insane sales number, which admittedly were a n abberwtion due to the pandemic.

You shouldn't have to. We transferred everything over from 1 and all files/games are intact. So you should be able to keep at it when you get one.

Oh, believe me, if I would have been able to find my Switch 1 I wouldn't have started fresh.

Of course, there would have been 2+ years worth of weeds on my island and probably a bunch of new neighbors, so at least there's no dealing with that.

I'll have to do a better job of keeping up with things when the inevitable next installment of this game comes out, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Missed my window to buy turnips for this week. I forgot that Daisy Mae only hangs out on the island until noon. Ah, well.

Paid off my second home loan (98,000) and did all the prep work to get two new people to come to the island, which will put my population up to 6, counting me.

I forgot how relaxing this game can be.

As I said before - there is some irony to the fact that the game became a lot more relaxing for me when I stopped buying turnips

I'm now up to six neighbors on my island:

  • Rudy (original)
  • Plucky (original)
  • Weber
  • Nana
  • Flora
  • Cephalobot

None of them are actively annoying to me or anything, but I might try to get Cephalobot to leave at some point because every time I see him the only thought that goes through my head is "Bring out the Gimp."

Tried to talk a couple of people who were staying at the Campground into moving in but they both shot that down. Whatever.

I have never been able to do this because the timing has to be perfect

Basically you have to have an empty plot ready to go

You probably have better chance since you still have some more houses to go

You can have all your plots filled, but then the game picks one villager at random who agrees to leave so that the person at the campground can move in.

Took a damn bath on turnips this week. Well, probably more of a mild shower compared to what it could have been. Turnip Prophet said it wasn't going to get any better (probably) later this week so I just sold now and took the hit. Could have paid for my next housing upgrade if I could have hit a spike. Maybe next week.

Now up to seven residents on my island with an eighth coming soon to the plot of land that was waiting for someone.

  • Rudy (jock cat)
  • Plucky (sisterly chicken)
  • Weber (lazy duck)
  • Flora (peppy ostrich)
  • Nana (normal monkey)
  • Cephalobot (smug octopus)
  • Bree (snooty mouse)
  • Static (cranky squirrel, hasn't moved in yet)

Had a third camper (Peggy the pig. . .gy) come to the campground and say she just couldn't bring herself to move to my island. The other two that shot me down were both ducks. I don't know if the game tries to not duplicate certain animal types and/or personality types on your island or what. But I believe I've hit the population limit.

At some point, I probably have to start chopping down trees and pulling weeds and stuff. I'll get around to it eventually.

You will eventually be able to get one more islander (10 total residents - you plus 9 residents) but I dont think that happens till after you fully renovate your island

You can definitely have multiple of the same animal/personality types as at one point I had 3 Octopi (Cephalobot, Zucker and Octavian) plus I currently have 4 fucking lazy residents (though one just left and I get to replace them today)

And Facebook reminded me this morning that it was 5 years ago today that I got my first Blue rose

God caring about flower types seems like another lifetime ago
