The Natural Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) For once a UFC show is on at a great time in the UK, prime time and it's on box office. Spiteful fuckers. Winner of Ilia Topuria vs. Max Holloway vs. Alex Pereira for 2024 Fighter of the Year. Holloway went up to Lightweight starching the heaviest hitter there in Justin Gaethje in legendary fashion and then regains the UFC Featherweight Championship beating an undefeated fighter in Ilia Topuria. Topuria KTFO the P4P #1 Alexander Volkanovski for the UFC Featherweight Championship and especially if he's the first to stop Holloway with strikes. Holloway has one of the greatest chins in MMA history. I'd take the winner of Topurira/Holloway for Fighter of the Year especially if there's a finish. Edited October 26 by The Natural
The Natural Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Max Holloway by decision and Robert Whittaker by decision.
jaedmc Posted October 26 Posted October 26 When I rekindled my interest in MMA it was because of three people. One was George St. Pierre. The other two were Max Holloway and Robert Whittaker. I think they were the first two fighters I'd seen that I was like "Oh they don't seem like total asshole psychopaths." Max in particular became my favorite fighter, because at the time I was doing a show set in Hawaii. I had to learn Pidgin English and I was studying Max's interviews for the accent. So all of this to say, I might actually pay for a PPV for once, and I'm fully prepared for this to be a really sad day. 1
jaedmc Posted October 26 Posted October 26 hoooo boy first fight and we already have one judge going rogue.
jaedmc Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Sorry to see Chris Barnett come back and go out like that. Looked like he hurt his leg a little during the fight introductions jumping. And then he may have tweaked it during the spin kick.
jaedmc Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Orolbai and Rębecki just took each other to the wood chipper. The canvas will never be the same.
Elsalvajeloco Posted October 26 Author Posted October 26 Myktybek Orolbai: Not in the slightest concerned about dying. 1
Elsalvajeloco Posted October 26 Author Posted October 26 I don't anyone expected that to happen to Robert Whittaker.
jaedmc Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Well that sucked. I figured it would look like that through the first round, but Robert would hopefully weather the storm and start to pull away. Didn't anticipate his jaw popping out. So yeah, who beats this fucking monster? I can't imagine anyone right now. He just leap frogged most of the Top 15, and I can't see any of them being much of a problem. Anthony Hernandez has the motor and tenacity but I don't think he can top this Chimaev's wrestling. Sean Strickland won't be able to walk him down. And I don't think Izzy's take down defense stands a chance against this. He's terrifying.

Beating Robert Whittaker when that's a tough ask for damn near everyone at 185 let alone in that fashion is astonishing. He's gotta face the winner of the next MW title fight. Only logical next step. Speaking of doing stuff that's never been seen before, Topuria just smoked Holloway when it was looking like we were heading towards a real scrap.

KO Alexander Volkanovski the P4P #1 for the UFC Featherweight Championship and defends it for the first time becoming the first man to stop Max Holloway with strikes.
The Natural Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Still wish we had Islam Makhachev vs. Max Holloway instead with the number Max did on Justin Gaethje.
jaedmc Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Max was looking great until he wasn't But it's like I said when Topuria beat Volk - Ilia could knock a fucking elephant out with that hand.

I was on the fence with him because he faded with Gilbert Burns and faded with Usman. So i wondered if he was actually ready for top level fighters. But I'm a believer. He's just too violent when he touches people. While I was typing this DC just showed Robert Whittaker's teeth. It looked like Chimaex crushed them vack into Wittaker's mouth. Fuuuuuck that
waffle Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) Event of the Year. Topuria, Fighter of the Year. That ruled. also, Topuria pointing to the ground to open the fight, what a legend. Edited October 26 by waffle
jaedmc Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Side note - Of all the #1 contenders I don't think there's anyone the UFC likes less than Magomed Ankalaev. They need Alex Pereira to knock this guy out in the worst way. And if you were one of those people that thought Ankalaev was going to beat Alex with wrestling, today should give you some concern.

You knew it had to be something bad for Whittaker to tap out so quick but that's even worse. Edited October 27 by The Natural

For me, it's Topuira for the reasons I already gave plus he KOd two GOATs in Featherweight history while doing it, Volkanovski and Holloway. That's one of the most impressive back to back wins in MMA history. Edited October 27 by The Natural
