  1. KU beats Iowa State 34-14. Pretty good chance Bowen gets the interim tag removed, even with just that one win. The team looks like it gives a shit, and being a former Lawrence High/KU player, the local support is there. Plus he'll be cheap, which never hurts.
  2. I mean, one is a sport with an entirely different bag of gender politics and one is a fictitious battle between good and evil based on the concept of wrestling where a world champion once lost his title because the fake son of Andre the Giant and a tall mummy double humped him until someone rang the bell. Wait, you were at my high school for that tournament?
  3. I'm a distance running dork. Pretty much anything from the 800 meters up to ultramarathons. It's strange, because certainly the longer events can take some time. An elite marathon, for instance, usually finishes up around two hours and five minutes, give or take, depending the course and weather. For that duration.... it's basically just people running. Well, that's exactly what it is. And I love it. Not just the race itself - which I do find very aesthetically satisfying - but everything that goes into it. I have several exercise science textbooks - and of course the usual pop references - and seek out the most recent scholarly articles about mitochondrial biogenesis, lactate threshold, AMPK, etc. Like most for whom this is all true, I'm a bit of a hobbyist myself, but not at all what anyone would consider good. This, I think, adds to the appeal, for me. I can run one mile in around the pace of the marathon world record (4:41.5).
  4. DB solidifies the heel turn... in KC only... and for a week or so at most... we'll be over it soon. Also, Pence is jacked. I had no idea.
  5. To me, this is good news, because it implies Mason and Graham were ahead of him on the depth chart. (Although, Frankamp was the go to shooter at the end of last year, and with him gone, we're either counting on a much better 3 ball from Selden, or more playing time for Greene.)

    2015 HOF Thread

Beltre keeps HOF company, checking his historical comps on Baseball Reference. (I'd vote yes if he retired today, and of course he's not doing that. He's clearly better than several 3B who are already in.) Sheffield won't make it - the steroids thing is pretty concrete, in his case - but he'll always have a special place in my heart as the guy whose stance I could never imitate in the backyard, and who terrorized me on MVP Baseball worse than any other hitter.
  7. He provided the incisive moments that won the game for NY. I think the idea that he just sort of floats through games, detached and disinterested, is kind of a cliche at this point, which people repeat for a lack of genuine analysis. (As for us, I'm honestly glad the season is over. Targeted all 3 competitions, and thus none of them effectively. Injuries ravaged the depth that could have made such ambition somewhat rational. Even with presumed health, and no CCL to bother with, we've got a roster that, for the first time in a couple years, seems to need real work.)
  8. Hey, did you see the weak sauce penalty on the Whitecaps that ended their season last night? I'm not a diehard fan but my season ticket holder bud was fuming afterwards. They played like ass in the first half so the team has a large chunk of the blame in the end. Didn't see it live, but just checked it out. "Weak" is right, but that's the tricky thing about the handball rule. It touches the arm, clearly. But it was also without intent, and didn't seem to impact the play at all. Thus, it's the referee's discretion. I'll say this: Having no rooting interest, it strikes me as lame, but understandable. Were it called on SKC, however, I'd be livid.
  9. IF the Marlins aren't willing to open the bank for at least a respectable offer(what 7 year 200 mil?), they ought to trade him before the rest of MLB realized it so they have maximum leverage. I would imagine they probably will break the bank for him, but you never know with Loria. . . Royals need a right handed power bat, who could ideally split time between right field and DH... And Glass has all that fresh postseason tickets/merch money... (Yes, I realize this has 0% chance of happening. But I'm going to pretend otherwise for a day or so.)
  10. Just listened to an interview with Ned Yost. Apparently he talked to Bumgarner after Game 5, and the two got to chatting about hunting videos and the like. Yost closed the conversation, politely, by saying he was glad Bumgarner was done for the series. About that, Ned...
  11. The good thing about Sporting's pending loss tonight is that I'm still numb to feeling sports things after last night.
  12. Hi everyone. I'm gonna sit in the corner and listen to Joy Division for a few days. Don't mind me.
  13. Well, fuck. Literally the best possible post season record without winning it all, and by far, the best season I've ever seen. Could be another 30 years. Who knows. So I'll remember this more fondly soon, and I really should. But for now, it's a letdown. Guthrie should never have started the 4th, and fuck, if Alex had ran hard out of the box he could have scored there. Maybe that's delusional, but it'd have been better odds than counting on Bumgarner giving up another hit. Even he scores 25% of the time, who thinks Perez is getting a hit that often? However, I can't really nitpick individual moments when one guy wins 3 games. Historic, and I don't know that there's ever been anything like it. But it's a little disappointing to see your team reduced to the "other guys" in the highlight package, or the answer to a trivia question, like the best Jazz team ever being immortalized as the guys Jordan hits the jumper against. Oh well. I'll feel better tomorrow, better than that in a week, and stoked for next season in a month. And this was all still pretty great.
  14. Worse would indeed be hard, but anything is possible if you believe in yourself. Dare to dream, Tim.
  15. I sent something like five emails to the wrong people today at work. That I know of. My brain can't process anything but baseball at the moment. If we lose, I get my sanity back. I'd rather wait an extra day though.
  16. Kinda assume there will be an NXT callup or two on Team Authority, given Triple H's heavy handed referencing of "the future" defeating John Cena. (Of course, that could have been Rollins too.)
  17. Kansas grad. Pretty sure I saw Brandon Rush steal french fries once and I didn't say anything. This is my cross.
  18. Stolen from the entirety of Royals twitter, basically: "Since 1982, teams down 3-2 going home for Games 6 and 7 have won 8 of 10 World Series" I'll take those odds.
  19. Rusev can't be the best foreign heel in however long, since he's actually one of the best faces on the roster. Fights two former world champs, wins clean, stands tall.
  20. Well, I'm glad the complete game perhaps limits his availability in a hypothetical Game 7.
  21. Obviously I don't love the results, but I can't take issue with Yost's bullpen management. Sometimes things just don't work.
  22. Two wins to go, out of four possible games. Bumgarner can't possibly pitch all four, so I'm feeling pretty good.
