  1. I am amazed it's even a discussion that sometimes people misspeak and then correct themselves, followed by good natured ribbing from buddies. It was planned? Seriously? It's not actually a discussion. I made one post saying it was scripted, then another post explaining why I thought that, because someone asked where the idea came from. Looks like everyone else disagrees, which is fine.
  2. Yeah, I wanted to say something earlier, when I saw it mentioned pages ago ... where'd this notion that the "Silverdome" botch was scripted come from? Just me. I have no proof, but Hogan didn't have an earpiece, and I just think if someone screws something up for real, they would try to sweep it under the carpet rather than turn the entire segment into absolutely everyone riffing on that screw-up. Also Austin's laughter looked pretty fake when Rock delivered his Superdome line.
  3. I loved the story. People have touched on this already, but what was missing was some kind of... transition point for Cena, or something. We know Bray is trying to bring out the crazy side of Cena through intimidation - so Bray can win by traditional means, or he can "win" by making Cena do something that alienates his fanbase to win the match. At the start, Cena can only go on offense when he goes crazy heelish. And (I think) he initially attacks Rowan and Harper not because they actually did something to him, but because he's afraid of them. But at the end, he wins with his usual offense. Which is fine, but how did we get from point A to point B there? Was it supposed to be when he put down the stairs or refused to use the chair? Whatever that moment was, it needed to stand out more. Also, they talk about Mania having "something for everyone". I think you're on point with the Taker match comparison. This was supposed to be the "epic story match" that the Taker match has filled for the last few years. Bryan vs. HHH was the workrate match.
  4. Yeah, when the PPV started off with Steph in the ring, I was thinking "My god, are they going to have her sing America The Beautiful??"
  5. Orton was clearly hurt, but I would say at least part of that was them trying to make it look like Bryan was legitimately KOed.
  6. Still got 6 pages to read through so this might already have been mentioned, but it's interesting that it came off that way live, because on tv it was the opposite of subtle. I guess that's a case of what they say about showing emotion in wrestling... you gotta play to the back row.
  7. The table spot in the main event was also a throwback to XX's main event. Also Brock standing around doing nothing until Undertaker put the Hell's Gate on him was a callback to Lesnar vs. Mir I.
  8. Yeah, Ki must not care as much about getting wins on the indies any more - maybe because of his quasi-retirement, maybe because of his abbreviated WWE run, who knows. I was nodding off by the end because I have an old man's sleeping schedule, but people seem super high on Hero-Tanaka and Gargano-Ricochet. Will have to rewatch those two.
  9. Captain Phillips was the extra movie I was thinking of. Surprised it didn't show up at all.
  10. Oh no way, I was expecting Her to be #2 at worst.
  11. I do feel that I've got it all figured out now (and it certainly wasn't obvious to me at first - though it might have helped that you'd read the book and apparently gave it a good deal of thought), but I'll shut up and let you write your piece on it. Looking forward to reading it.
  12. I didn't predict The World's End or Inside Llewyn Davis showing up in the top ten (should've remembered the latter, though). So now I have six big movies in mind, but there's only five spots left to fill... hmm.
  13. btw without thinking about it too hard, I can name 9 movies that would probably be in the top 10. Curious which one I'm missing.
  14. Not hating, just thought it was amusing. I actually went to see it on my birthday and had a good time, but didn't vote for it because I am all about the srs movies.
  15. Place Beyond The Pines is another one I didn't see. Saw Side Effects but didn't vote for it - it wasn't bad, but I read a "this plan is ridiculous, who would come up with something like that" critique on another message board that probably soured me on it. Mud was at the very bottom of my list. I watched it last summer in New Orleans, taking the opportunity to get out of the heat, in one of those fancy pants theatres where waiters come to your seat and serve you drinks. caley, I mentioned that if you liked this one, you are going to like the Nicolas Cage movie "Joe" at least as much - and shoot, that's coming out next week. Limited release, though.
  16. For horror, you could split it into a whole bunch of subgenres and spend, I don't know, a couple of weeks on each one. The origins of horror - Nosferatu Creature feature drive-in stuff like The Blob Zombie movies, focusing on Romero Giallo, focusing on Argento Slashers - Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street Modern Japanese horror Torture porn, if you want to even go into that - I guess Saw? Eli Roth stuff? Found footage, probably emphasizing Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity
  17. Okay, stupid question: There's no way to watch the Friday night New Orleans show live on streaming video, right? There's a Bleacher Report article that refers to the show as an iPPV, but it doesn't look like it is.
  18. The first point of comparison that comes to mind is that both those matches felt very different from what you'd expect in WWE/WWF, even right when they were announced. For Shield vs. Wyatts, a high-profile heel faction vs. heel faction match in WWE is nearly unheard of (which probably has something to do with why we got "This is awesome" chants before the match even started). For Michaels vs. Mankind, Foley had been in the WWF for less than a year, and being put in the main event so soon was pretty unexpected. Also Michaels was coming off big matches with Bret and Bulldog earlier that year, which were more on the pure wrestling side of things. I know he had the No DQ match with Diesel, but my point is, this felt like it was going to be something completely different for him. Something really crazy.
  19. Welcome back! I haven't seen either of those. Had no idea Harmony Korine was in Stoker.
  20. But if some poster with a wife who likes Roman Reigns died today, that would mean one more single woman in the world who is amenable to watching wrestling. Some guys would be lining up to "console" her, especially if her dead husband leaves her a lot of wrestling memorabilia. Struggling to keep the smile off her face at her husband's funeral, and then dirtying up the bedsheets before he's even cold in the ground! How dare she!
  21. Toronto mayoral candidates are starting their campaign early!
  22. That's a pretty dire commentary on the state of the indies when Roderick Strong is a standout promo. Roderick Strong. Not to mention Kevin Steen being in better shape. Unless it just means "better shape than he used to be". His waistline is still pretty huge last I saw.
  23. Ambrose also used it on a PPV earlier this year (I think Elimination Chamber) and texted Nigel to say thanks. Nigel tweeted about it, saying something like "I appreciate the text, but don't thank me, thank (name of guy who originally came up with the move)." So he seemed surprisingly okay with it.
