  1. I'm firmly convinced that Ishii is 100 percent a Hall of Famer now. I was on the fence but seeing how good he is no matter the setting even when other elite wrestlers are struggling with the clap crowds is showing that he's an all-time great.
  2. What's odd is that a company that was launched specifically because Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, Cody and the Young Bucks were the hottest free agents in wrestling can now be accused of "over pushing them " like they're TNA Jeff Jarrett. Honestly, this first year has done a good job of not over-pushing these guys the way they could have been. I dunno...people must have really hated NOAH when it started then.
  3. Surprised at the heat towards Cody's win. That's pretty classic old-school booking in every way. I have a hunch that the feud with Lee isn't over as they could come back and do another gimmick for the final blow off. You can go two ways with the Cassidy deal. He could simply just win a hard fought match or the story could be that he comes in over-confident and loses and THAT sets Cody down the way to the inevitable heel turn.
  4. Jesse Ventura at the end of Wrestlemania VI ‘ya know, Gorilla - maybe Hulkamania will live forever.’ Imagine in the world where Warrior takes off and Hogan’s movie career is successful and that’s the capper line of Hogan’s big run from one of his biggest critics on air for years? Non-WWE category - Don Callis breaking down weeping, repeating ‘hook the leg, hook the leg, hook the leg’ after Omega hits the One Winged Angel to defeat Okada. Up there with Heenan’s ‘Yes’ call.
  5. Yeah - his lackadaisical performance the last fight and I could just see him clowning around and being smoked.
  6. That's fair. And don't get me wrong - I love the show. But some of the reactions on some random segment being bad is like it's the Fingerpoke of Doom. Wednesday was a perfectly fine show.
  7. AEW is the only company ever where the weekly TV is scrutinized as if if we all dropped 70 dollars on a Pay Per View.
  8. Not to double-post but think about how Anna Jay was portrayed on TV this week vs Dominik. Both are probably the two most inexperienced performers on national TV. One is being put in a position to excel and the other is being both over-exposed and losing week after week as a narrative device to a bad story.
  9. To the winning streak thing - I was watching the AEW show the other night with the the Anna Jay and Brandi match and, sure, Brandi is no huge star but Anna Jay has wrestled for like five days and she just beats Brandy handily. It's just not hard to get value from people. WWE has just broken everyone about how wrestling should be booked.
  10. I know this is a question better for Wrestling Classics but then I have to register and all. Anyway: any good histories/articles/books on the Gulf Coast Wrestling territories. I'm out in the Gulf Coast of Florida and would love to find more of the history of this region outside of just random Cornette/Fuller shoots.
  11. Yeah, that Sturgis study is pretty specious and, when thought about for more than a few minutes, a bit silly. Still a dumb thing to attend.
  12. Who would believe Renee confirming everything that her and Mox told Meltzer? She wasn't in the room and doesn't know about her own diagnosis and treatment by the company. --- on another note. the Island Death Match discussion reminded me - what are the ESSENTIAL Inoki matches? I don't need to watch the best per se but just like 6-8 most historically important matches.* I have never watched any of his stuff. *I don' t need to watch the Death Island or Ali stuff.
  13. I'm a little kinder to Beefer in my old age. He had charisma and a good luck and did the best with a kinda silly gimmick and, as noted above over is over.
  14. Good show. WWE at least on PPV has seemed to pull out of the gutter.
  15. Having a Sunday chat about what if Hogan has a Karrion Kross and wins the belt at Mania V but has to forfeit the belt due to injury. What would you do? Do you rush the Warrior title win a year early? Go back to Macho King for an extended run? You have upper-level babyfaces like Snake, Hacksaw, Beefcake and Dusty. Do you gamble on them? Does Vince just put the belt on fucking Zeus? I can kind of see a world where Vince goes with Beefcake for obvious reasons.
  16. Yeah it’s a bummer Jericho went the wrong way on the wacky roll-up but it looked fine-ish.
  17. All those Hornbacker books are dry as molasses. I mean, GOOD and INFORMATIVE but my God is he dry. Finished the new Andre the Giant. Very good, especially if you have an interest in Montreal wrestling. Once you get to the WWF run it turns a little into just like reading match recaps from the Observer but reading about the Giant's early life and career was really interesting.
  18. Watched an episode of 82 Mid Atlantic and Flair is cutting a promo with Hammer and says some shit like "and there's the legendary Don Kernoodle who is synonymous with the ladies" and Hammer just fucking cackles like a madman. It's great. Hammer is normally so stoic. I like to think that Flair popped him because it's either so widely off-base that it's hilarious or Kernoodle ended up taking some woman from the bar the night before or some shit.
  19. Totally random ECW question but does anyone remember the episodes where: - Corino accuses Dusty in a promo of cutting Magnum TA's brakes. - Joey is doing commentary with either Cyrus or Gertner (I think) and one of them says "like the Cowboy say "let's string 'em up" and Joey start screaming "it's hook 'em up, it's hook 'em up." Those two rank with New Jack's OJ promo as some of the most hilariously inappropriate one-off lines I can recall.
  20. Randomly came across a Jeff Jarrett vs Eddie Gilbert match in the "GWF" listing. Hot little match with a wonky finish. I miss Hot Stuff and it's amazing how Jarrett was such a great territory babyface but absolutely was NOT one on the national stage.
  21. Love ya Craig but that is quite the sentence construction there.
  22. Not enough chatter that it looks like they are doing an Antifa faction.
  23. Came in to comment about JR. He needs to be removed from commentary. That was as unprofessional as some of his NJPW stuff
