  1. yeah, i found that a bit odd. fights that Jose Aldo has pulled out of (aka "turned down") Also note that all of these were FeatherWeight title fights, and that he was out for almost the entirety of 2012 and didn't defend his title for over a full year: UFC 125 vs Josh Grispi (neck injury) - Grispi faced Dustin Poirier instead and lost. He then lost his next three and was released from the UFC. UFC 149 vs Erik Koch (undisclosed injury) - Koch got injured and pulled out of the later scheduled match, then lost two in a row and never got his title shot UFC 153 vs Frankie Edgar (foot injury) - fight happened at 156 (Aldo by decision) UFC 176 vs Chad Mendes (shoulder injury) - fight happened at 179 (Aldo by decision) UFC 189 vs Conor McGregor (rib injury) - fight happened at 194 (Conor by 1st rd KO) not to mention that he admitted in at least one interview that he turned down a rematch with Conor McGregor (due to short notice).
  2. well, except for the retired former title contender turned analyst he just called out
  3. so far, i liked the Wineland/Mizugaki fight and thought the Smith/Aldana fight was fantastic. Emmett/Holtzman was pretty decent, but the next two fights put me to sleep. in the final prelim, da Silva was either hopelessly outmatched or just didn't put an any effort
  4. last week's episode of WCW Thunder (12/9/99) featured the "team" of Mike Tenay and Juventud Guerrera on commentary. There was also a revolving door for the third member of the announce team. Now, to be fair, none of the matches were great, but this show was just horrendous to watch, largely because of Juvi.
  5. i appreciate that the video for the above Jericho/Cyrus podcast has a picture of Earthquake for no reason whatsoever.
  6. still. there was a certain expectation, and i don't know if this was more towards the UFC brass or towards the fans, that Cyborg was going to be at 135. Cyborg vs. Rousey was the fight that everybody wanted to see. I'm not saying that UFC was promoting this fight, but they certainly didn't discourage people from anticipating it. It was certainly implied that the Cyborg/Rousey fight was the fight to make, and everything else was just a holding pattern. Here we are, 3 years later or whatever, and it seems like the fight will never happen. And i'm gonna repeat this. Who gives a fuck about women's 145 besides Cyborg? UFC is gonna need at least a semi-solid roster of competitors. the ones so far against Cyborg (and this includes Invicta) leave plenty to be desired, and will lead very quickly to low PPV buys. I've been interested in a Marloes Coenen UFC run, but that was mainly for the Coenen/Rousey fight. outside of that, what sort of competitors are there?
  7. my pride won't let me play any mode other than "normal". or harder. i have to add that "or harder" part to satisfy said ego. i never play anything tougher than normal unless i'm already well versed in the game.
  8. you show me where i can get all the weekly AWA shows from 82-90 and we will be best friends forever.
  9. everybody should ask for more AWA. it is sorely lacking on the network and unavailable anywhere else
  10. she calls featherweight "her weight class", but if they only way you can get there is with 12 weeks preparation, maybe she should start campaigning for a women's welterweight division. this is Rumble Johnson levels of too much weight cutting.
  11. came here to post this as well. apparently it happened 11/28 but i just heard about it today. at least he and Kato/Bruce Lee are kicking butt together again.
  12. i really loved when Paul Heyman replaced Lawler during the Invasion. Ross/Heyman was an excellent change of pace and never failed to entertain. Monsoon/Heenan and Monsoon/Ventura are the greatest ever, of course
  13. i hated Dusty Rhodes' commentary when i was younger, and the nWo stuff was current. i'd watch the weekend shows and just couldn't understand why they kept him around. flash forward, and watching some of those weekend shows is only make bearable BY Rhodes. there was some PPV that i rewatched and live tweeted the best Dusty Rhodes-isms. it was the best way to watch whatever shitty ppv that was. Michael Cole, for me, is just flat out BAD at announcing. he never adds anything of value, points out the most obvious things, but misses anything more subtle. (haha, subtlety in WWE, that's riot!) his stint as a heel was just freaking atrocious, but i've never found him to be good. ever. i issue a challenge to show me one match that his commentary actually ADDS to, instead of detracting from.
  14. this is the first season of TUF i've watched all the way through since season 2. i jumped in and out on season 4, and followed season 10 until i got to see the one fight i wanted to watch (Nelson vs Kimbo, which ended up being episode 1 or 2). i really enjoyed it. the 'all champions' idea was a great hook for me. was surprised to see Hiro and Shelton make it as far as they did, i was pretty sure early on we were getting a Pantoja vs Elliot final. i'm actually fairly surprised that the final never got spoiled, at least that i saw. i wasn't looking for spoilers, but i figured that i would've had it ruined for me at some point. glad that didn't happen. that being said, Tim looked good, but not nearly good enough to beat DJ. in the final with Hiro, he was gassed pretty hard early in round 3. i know it was a tough fight, but we all know DJ has the lung capacity to go for 5 rounds easily. should be a decent enough fight, but i doubt too many are predicting a new champ.
  15. any undercard wcw matches from '96-97. when all of the focus is on Hogan, all night, and the commentators barely mention the competitors in the ring, it just sours the whole deal.
  16. oh man. i just read the Mutant Massacre crossover with Uncanny X-Men and X-Factor, among others. holy shit, what a downer. like, it's seriously giving me depression just thinking about how this all went down. i guess the biggest concern for me was that the X-Men don't win. by the end of the storyline, the X-teams are beaten down and defeated. most have some sort of serious injury, they're emotionally devastated, and they still have no real idea who or why did this abomination. what a major bummer.
  17. they may as well make Aldo vs the winner of Pettis/Holloway and have that be for the "full" title. fuck dealing with anymore interim bullshit, and just make it happen.
  18. it's too bad people can't, you know, WATCH the promotion. i'd be interested in seeing that initial set of tapings from, what, last summer?
  19. i can definitely see that. a couple years back, i read the first ~100 issues of Spawn. for the first dozen issues, the only ones written well were the ones by guest writers. Youngblood was pretty good IIRC tho. but i guess that depends on how you feel about Liefield art.
