  1. this was me confirming we were talking about the same ACB. I had never heard of it until a week ago or whenever Amir Aliakbari signed with them. Does ACB air on tv anywhere? Their website doesn't make any mention of television coverage. Has any ACB fighter beaten any fighters ranked in the top 15? Has any of them headlined a major card with worldwide appeal? I have nothing against the organization, but claiming that they're a step away from Bellator's roster is just ridiculous without backing that up somehow.
  2. is this ACB the Russian MMA league? because i just looked up their last few events and.....yeah, i'm gonna have to disagree. Zero name value. Most of their fighters don't even have wikipedia pages. I can't speak to the talent level, having never seen an ACB show, but as far as a 'roster comparable to Bellator' i don't see what you see.
  3. i was there. literally the first time i heard the crowd chant (outside, in line to enter the building) was a "fuck you cena" chant. it was glorious. Mania 22 was such a blast. they should run Mania in Chicago again.
  4. i am confused by the people who say the film "didn't feel like previous SW movies." Ep1 was complete dogshit. THAT didn't feel like SW. this? this works just as well as any of the other films.
  5. people are acting like Bamgbose put on the worst performance ever. it wasn't good, and with his other losses he deserves to be cut, but come on. fights of that excitement level (or lack thereof ) happen all the time.
  6. i read the article linked earlier. It states that fans want less rules, more hard hits, etc, etc. and the NFL isn't delivering to fans what they want. The current WWE is more focused on safety and concussions and stuff of that nature than ever before. Also, the WWE routinely does not give the fans what they want. why do people think that a Vince Football League will do what he's never been able to do- deliver what other people want to see, NOT what HE wants to see?
  7. i also enjoy Mike Brown as a fighter. But the story on him is that if you take the Faber fights out of the equation, he hasn't really ever beaten any top-tier guys. Yves Edwards is probably the next best guy he beat, and Edwards was always pretty mid range. I don't see that as a knock on Aldo. At the time, Brown looked damn good, beating Faber twice and defending the title against Leonard Garcia (lol). Brown was the favorite to win that fight, although the odds were fairly close IIRC. A solid win that should be counted as kicking off his 5 year run with the title.
  8. when Rey/Chewie make the save in the Falcon, i was sure that was going to be Luke in his X-Wing.
  9. i agree fully with this. not a positive sign for the movie biz in the long term. that being said, i'm surprised Fox didn't have more big franchises.
  10. so what are Fox's biggest movie franchises that Disney now owns? i keep seeing Aliens, but what else?
  11. watched Justice League today. liked it quite a bit more than i thought i would. Most of my criticisms are small and didn't take me away from the movie too much. Definitely the best of the bunch. (disclaimer: i haven't seen Wonder Woman). Much props. I absolutely hated Man of Steel, thought Batman v Superman was ok, and enjoyed JL. not a bad upswing.
  12. this is almost exactly my take as well. Dick Grayson/Nightwing is my #1 favorite comic book character of all time. i was hesitant about this series because it was such a drastic change (and it came after his horrendous portrayal in 'Forever Evil') but Seeley & King knocked it out of the park. So much crazy fun spy stuff. The tone was picture perfect. The action was always great. A recommendation on the highest order.
  13. this WME era of big money fights and interim titles is playing hell with the title lineages and rankings. Yes, i know it is a less than perfect system and flawed from the outset, but this propensity toward marquee matchups only highlights the flaws. Fighters who win championships should be held to a higher standard, not rewarded for taking extended breaks and/or defending against the top contender(s).
  14. sad to see Tim Seeley off Nightwing. He had a tremendous run on Grayson and his Nightwing run has been above average as well.
  15. somebody at work made this same claim. IMO Clooney had the worst performance under the cowl. Affleck's Batman was the least Batman-like. Affleck himself did fine. at least Clooney-Bat wasn't outright shooting people.
  16. Guardians, the big budget Russian superhero flick, was officially released on video today. i finally got to see it, i've been impatiently waiting since i first saw the trailer. some cool visuals with a cookie cutter storyline and cardboard characters. i quite enjoyed it for what it was.
  17. Batman: Dark Knight, Dark City was a good read. I had heard it touted as being amazing, so my expectations were a bit high, but it is well worth checking out. Fun stand-alone that you don't have to read anything leading in to it. Infinite Crisis. i felt it was very good. at the time i wasn't reading the lead-ups to the event, which i actually think helped me enjoy the event itself more. It is unapologetically a sequel to Crisis on Infinite Earths, so if you liked that event (and/or the idea behind the story) you will likely enjoy it.
  18. so finally saw Batman v Superman. two major thoughts: 1. this was, by far, the worst version of Batman i have ever seen, in any media, ever. 2. other than that, i didn't hate the movie as much as i expected to.
  19. amazing card. more of this, please. more thoughts: missed the Fight Pass Prelims. bummer. Drakkar Klose was frustrated because he didn't know how to deal with an opponent who knew how to use range to his advantage. I'm ok with Herb Dean issuing a warning, because it made for a better fight, but Klose really needed to force Teymur into his kind of fight but didn't have the experience to make it happen. Yancy Medeiros vs Alex Oliveira. what a fight. FOTY contender, if not the favorite. not sure what happened on the ground that lead to the stoppage, but wish we would've seen it in replay. i felt like Joey Styles because i said "oh my god" so many times over 15 minutes. It doesn't get much better than this. Alvarez vs Gaethje. i said before the fight that Gaethje had this, because he'd lure Alvarez into a brawl and get the better. Please allow me to eat my words. Alvarez showed composure and know how and really took the fight to Gaethje. He made better adjustments and used the body shots and composure to show that he is still an elite fighter. Cejudo vs Pettis. it was still too early for Pettis to take this fight. who gets the next flyweight title shot? DJ has beaten everyone in the top 5 except Jussier Formiga, who recently lost to Cejudo and Borg. not looking forward to those two (DJ/Cejudo) in a rematch, but it probably happens soon. Ngannou vs Overeem. that uppercut scared me. it was like something from Soda Popinski in its brutality and finality. I've seen the Reem KO'd before, but never like that. Hol. Eee. Shit. Aldo vs Holloway. Aldo looked good early, but you could tell he was fading even after Rd 1. Once Max turned up the aggression in Rd 3 it was all over. Better strikes, better positioning, better angles. Aldo should have no excuses. Aldo's been teasing/threatening retirement for a while now, it is probably time to step away. He will never be the top dog again, and i feel that he's not OK with being second best. Not a fan of Frankie Edgar, i hope Holloway is able to put him away next.
  20. LOL at Carwin refusing to qualify for a tournament. Dude hasn't had a fight in like 6 years, lost his last two, and pulled out of the last tourney he was announced as being part of.
  21. cheers for the reviews. like the UnholyDragon, i read the first issue but didn't enjoy it. i've stayed away from the series since, although i have been curious. will take this as my invitation to check it out.
  22. watched the movie Warcraft yesterday. played Warcraft 2 back in the day, never tried 3 or WoW. you know, it wasn't terrible. some of the characters were developed well. others clearly were just thrown out there.i can see why it wasn't well regarded, but i had no major problem with it. well worth my 2 hr and $0 investment.
  23. used my long weekend to beat Gauntlet: Dark Legacy (GCN) and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES). Zelda is my favorite franchise ever, haven't played LTTP in probably a decade. Still great. Gauntlet is one of my top 10 games. i've got great memories of playing this (and its predecessor, Gauntlet Legends for the n64) constantly when it came out, usually with a couch full of buddies. still a great game, I'm going to have to backtrack to unlock all the hidden characters. also may as well level up to 99, as I'm only lvl 85 now.
  24. remember when everyone was excited for the StrikeForce HW Grand Prix? yeah, this is not that.
