  1. Do NPR shows count as "podcasts" since they're produced primarily for terrestrial broadcast? If we're listing radio shows that get uploaded to the 'Net, then by all means check out Q with Jion Ghomeshi. Basically the Canadian version of "Fresh Air" with a host who's willing to ask tough, insightful questions of his guests (he badgered Willem Dafoe until he got Dafoe to admit that he doesn't care about the 'motivations' for a character he's playing and instead chooses parts based on how much physicality is involved in the role). To The Best of Our Knowledge has been awful for the past two years or so, as Jim Fleming obviously doesn't give a shit anymore and just sleepwalks through each episode. Some weird topic choices, like doing "The Best Short Stories of 2012" in the middle of March 2013. Is the Kevin Pollack podcast different than those long, rambling Youtube interview shows he posts? I like Bill Simmons when he's focusing on football of baseball. I'm too much of a cynic to really care for "storyteller" shows like This American Life or Snap Judgement. I had a friend who tried to get me to listen to the episode of American Life that launched the "sleepwalk with me" meme while we were on a long car trip, and I was like "Why are we listening to this? So a comedian fell out of the window of a La Quinta Inn while sleepwalking. Why is this on?" Just not a show that appeals to me, though I won't deny it has a lot of fans. Marketplace is a pretty good financial program, and Kai Ryssdal does a good job of keeping his own economic/political views under wraps, unlike NPR's Planet Money team which is basically an unpaid advertisement for globalization and those "Freakanomics" books.
  2. Who? EDIT: [checks Google] Oh, the guy who played the bank clerk at the end of Will Ferrell's The Other Guys.
  3. So am I the only one here who actually likes Rookie Blue? Probably my favorite show right now, with Castle in reruns.
  4. Are those the original actors?
  5. http://www.avclub.com/articles/read-this-sony-and-nbc-probably-got-dan-harmon-bac,100387/ Pretty good article documenting Dan Harmon's firing and return to the show.
  6. http://www.freep.com/article/20130718/NEWS01/307180107/Detroit-prepares-file-bankruptcy-soon-Friday
  7. Vader Crusher Blackwell One Man Gang in Mid-South/UWF King Kong Bundy in Mid-South Big Bubba Rogers in Jim Crockett
  8. I can't believe that for the Duck Tales remaster they actually spent the money to drag 93-year old Alan Young into the recording studio to play Scrooge McDuck and the even older June Foray to play Magica DeSpell (I just have visions of the guy who played George Jetson literally dying in the recording studio while recording lines for The Jetsons Movie, though to be fair Young seemed to be in pretty good health for a 2011 interview he did on Youtube). Oh, and they actually shelled out the cash to get Frank Welker to play the Beagle Boys. I mean, that's awesome that they did that, but this has got to be the most expensive voice cast for a download-only game in existence. Welker alone probably charges more than Michael Biehn did for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
  9. I'd like to hope that EA has learned some sort of lesson from the "Star Wars: The Old Republic" fiasco and won't go that route with ME, or at the very least won't abandon single-player games in the series. If they want to do a 'out of continuity' MMO that's fine, but don't continue the canon storyline in an MMO exclusively.
  10. I still can't decide if I actually like All-New X-Men or not. It's a little too smart ass for my tastes, and Jean comes off as a sort of God Mode Sue for Bendis, especially in this issue with the "sorry, only been a psychic for five minutes" jokes. Although anyone who gets pissed at Sabretooth's treatment in this issue needs to remember that he was once the victim of a no-holds barred beatdown by The Black Cat of all people back in the late 80's in Spectacular Spider-Man. I also wouldn't put it past Bendis to write a plot where Jean offers herself to Wolverine and Logan resists at first, given that Grey is 16 again, but then realizes that he used to bone 13-year old girls in the Victorian/Edwardian Era when that was "acceptable" (even though it really wasn't) and have him go for a role in the hay.
  11. Speaking of the Browns, how deep is the 2014 NFL Draft supposed to be? Are there a bunch of transcendent "Andrew Luck-esque" QBs at the top?
  12. Just get a 30 GB thumb drive or something and transfer the DLC for all three games into it, it's cheaper. Hopefully we'll get a "high definition" re-release for the Xbox One/PS4 and all the DLC will be pre-loaded onto the blu ray discs.
  13. *SPOILERS AHOY* The problem with Mass Effect 4 is that they shot themselves in the foot with the various endings, if they try to continue off of one or the other it will piss off the fans. They've been teasing that part 4 would be a prequel, but that's just pissed off fans who are all "I don't want to interact with characters that I know will die when the Reapers seize control of the Citadel." Not that they'd do it, but they could open Mass Effect 4 with Buzz Aldrin narrating that the Mass Effect universe is full of parallel dimensions and timelines and then we cut to Javik and the Protheans firing the "incomplete" Crucible, destroying the Reapers but wiping themselves out at the same time. Fast forward 50,000 years and you now get to play in the ME universe without having to worry about Reapers invading while there are a handful of Protheans still in the universe, bemoaning the loss of their empire. If they do do prequels, then I am a huge fan of the "retro cyberpunk" genre ala Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon so if they did a neo noir game set on Earth before the discovery of the Mars Ruins, with a heavy Neuromancer feel to the whole thing, that would be awesome.
  14. I just have this horrible feeling that SummerSlam is going to end with Daniel holding the title belt while "Voices In My Head" starts playing and KICK WHAM RKO and Orton is the champ.
  15. So...just a guy the studio can control, rather than someone with his own unique voice to imprint on the franchise.
  16. It's certainly frustrating how people get hooked on drugs and steal from their own friends and families and steal and murder to feed their habit. We just gotta keep hitting at these scumbag drug dealers and smugglers and keep fighting the good fight against the poison they sell which is ruining our country. Although that's really not what this thread is about though, sorry.
  17. So now that Justin Lin is finished with the Fast & Furious franchise, could we please get a director for part 7 who is obsessed with the car chases in Bullitt/The French Connection/The Seven Ups and get one car chase that is an homage to those films in part 7 where the entire car chase features traditional stunt work, lots of shots taken from cameras mounted to the front bumper and hood, no background "music" save for the high-pitched revving of the engines as they shift gears, and absolutely no CGI at all?
  18. Worse than Olympus Has Fallen with its seemingly gleeful depictions of innocent civilians getting slaughtered?
  19. So...Anime Expo happened. Biggest show licensed was probably Girls Und Panzer to Sentai Filmworks. And Genshiken 2 gets picked up by one of the streaming sites.
