Well, it's definitely Spring in South Carolina... just a little bit of pollen...

I've always preferred the term, "arboreal bukkake".

Got a warning text this morning from the city/county that the heat index is supposed to be over 100 today.  Guess I can look forward to getting that same text every day till late September.

Dust storm in Springfield tonight

My family and I were caught in one of those seven years, almost to the day, while on vacation in Springfield to see all of the Abraham Lincoln attractions.  Dead stop on the highway as visibility was zero.

I'm telling you, the wind we get in the cornfields out here... Chicago is cold because it gets that shit off the lakes, but we get just as much of it out here. That day I could barely keep my car door open long enough to get out.

This year, we’ve had a couple times our normal rainfall for April and May.  Constant soaking rains in April, frequent thunderstorms in May. A portion of our yard doesn’t drain well.  Contractors think the problem is whatever the previous homeowner put beneath their in-ground pool, but we’d have to dig up the yard to confirm that.  It’s rarely much of a problem, but that corner has been wet and muddy more often than not lately. Been able to mow there without making much of a mess, but it was soggy to start the week and we’ve had storms most every night this week.  Yesterday, it was too soft to walk on and small puddles were just laying on the grass in a few places.  So of course, we had another round of heavy storms last night.  Forecast is more storms next few days, so I need to mow today but I doubt I can without tearing up the yard.  Not sure if it’s be better to mow everything or let grass grow in that area, mow around it and hope it’s in better shape next week.

Garage is also leaking water due to ground being so saturated.  No major issues yet, but it  definitely seems to be a situation where a storm could dump enough water to flood garage and get water in the house.  Wife seems unconcerned with these issues (we’ve had them before, but not frequently) but I am really on edge and generally annoyed with weather.

I’m surprised we didn’t. We did have a lightning strike like a half mile from our office and a cluster of 5/6 strikes in the bay close to us.

Man if you are in South Florida it looks like it is going to be awful.   This doesn't look like something that you can chalk up to "well we are used to it in this area"

It's early summer in southeastern New Mexico, so it feels like the surface of the damn sun. Until today. The high temperature on Tuesday was a toasty 107, today it's 81. I told my wife that I hope I can find my earmuffs and parka with it being so cold. It also goes to show how much my kids have acclimated to the weather down here. When I mentioned the forecast my 12 year old says "Oh, it's going to be nice and cool" and didn't get why I thought it was crazy to describe 80 plus degree temps as "cool."

There are times I really miss South Florida.

And then other times...

So, I go to Longlegs last night, get out and hear the kids working the front say "Hey, did you hear about the severe thunderstorm warning we have?" I get out to the car, close the door, and hear something whining over the music, turn it down... and it's the tornado sirens from the nearby airport, which are just ear-splitting. I'm only about 8-15 minutes away from my house so I FLY home. My mom always panics during these and is gathering stuff to put in the walk-in closet, I make a bug-out bag and throw that and my guitar in there, and we wait, watching the weather. Turns out just a lot of rain, other places get hit worse -- downed power lines and such. Then at exactly 3 AM I hear roaring that's shaking the fucking house and I almost wake up the folks, until it stops... then starts, stops, starts, stops and I realize it's what I believe to be is referred to as rolling thunder. I've never heard this before, but its goddamned ominous.

Needless to say I didn't sleep well.

I walked to work at 5 am yesterday and it was already hot and gross. I've never been as hot working in a kitchen as I have been this summer. I carry a half gallon water jug when I go out and have been drinking two and a half gallons at a minimum.

I work in the digital pick-up/delivery department at a Walmart right now and we have a team of kids that take the groceries out to the cars while I set them up inside. I sweat to, like, an insane amount inside, to where sometimes my shirt can be practically wrung out when I come home (which is embarrassing but fuck 'em). Don't know how but these kids don't look like they break a sweat going in and out, and it is BROILING when I walk out of the building. Maybe I have that Bobby Lashley thing where you can't stop sweating?

Annnnnd today we get flash flood warnings to cap off the multiple straight days of excessive heat advisories.  Is tomorrow toads, locusts, or rivers turning to blood?  I forget.

I'm with you. My shirts are just soaked not long into my shift. Been taking two every day.

We got the cicada invasion and have had the HORRIFYING NATIONAL DANGERS of giant flying spiders on the East Coast and of murder hornets (remember them?) so I think the bug plague part of Revelation* is already taken care of. And the Beast has been struck in the head and survived, even!

* It's Revelation, not Revelations, as has been reminded to me by Alicia Witt in Longlegs.
