Just finished watching this on DVR, and I wanted to chime in after this. However, I didn't want to risk being spoiled on any other fight. However, this x1000. A lot of guys would walk away after getting starched like Johnny Walker does. However, he's just going to keep getting fights until UFC just stops booking him. That said, fighting Volkan (or Volk Han as I like to say) is extremely tough after just getting stopped earlier this year by Ankalaev.

Speaking of in tough....that's another tough ask cause Whittaker was training for the fight of his life against Chimaev. Anything less than perfection from Aliskerov, he was gonna lose. This was a case of way too much, too soon. If this fight wasn't in Saudi Arabia, he wouldn't have been asked to replace Khazmat. He would fought and beat somebody like Trocoli (I believe one of his original opponents before stepping in to go against ole Bobby Knuckles) who went on to lose earlier on the card.
jaedmc Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 Yeah, I thought odds should've been worse for Aliskerov. They were trying to sell the idea that because Rob lost to an up and coming DDP, that it could happen again, but I wasn't buying it. There's just too much experience discrepancy between the two, and Robert's resume is almost the same as Izzy's, in regards to Middleweight victories. Also while I'm here, that was a class victory for Alexander Volkov. He stifled Pavlovich for 15 minutes. Took a lot of focus and poise to get through that knowing the other guy had two warheads for fists. It's too bad the title picture is a mess. 1

jaedmc Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 Choi/Algeo was an exciting scrap for two rounds. Looked like Choi broke Algeo's orbital bone with two hooks to the same spot. Ouch. Mo Usman laid a bit of an egg against Thomas Petersen, which I'm sure was not the expectation when they put that match together.
jaedmc Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 woooooah. Jandiroba was a fucking smoooooooth criminal. We were talking about submissions of the year a week or two ago. This may have been another case of a big skill discrepancy, but man watch how smooth Jandiroba took the back in Round 2. Then watch how she essentially used a rear naked to transition to an armbar. It's not so much about the end, but how she got there. Beautiful stuff. 1

jaedmc Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 I'm pretty excited for this card. Some interesting matches. Rooting for my Chicago guys, even though Belal has been making it difficult recently. Looking forward to Arnold Allen vs. Giga.
jaedmc Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 All that security to keep Kape and Mokaev apart and I don't think Kape threw a strike for the first 3 minutes.
jaedmc Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Disappointing result, but Molly McCann never gave up on herself. She's tough as hell, just wish she could get a run going at this weight.

Against (lower level) fringe level contenders, McCann looks rather impressive. Anything above that...she looks rather ordinary. If Bruna Brasil kept hitting her to the body like she did in round 1, she would have stopped her. If this was pro wrestling, Molly McCann would be well above where she is on the totem pole. Unfortunately, her level is entertaining prelim fighter. Ultimately nothing wrong with that, but she's basically a gatekeeper for fighters who need a tough, gritty opponent who will make them better.

Oh for sure. I think folks over bought on her when she got the submission win last time. On the other hand, Women's Strawweight isn't known for consistency or dominance. Jessica Andrade lost 3 of her last five and is ranked 4th.
