  1. The Phillies just announced that they're kicking Pete Mackanin upstairs as a "Special Assistant" after the season is over; he'll manage the last 3 games as a dead man walking.
  2. That looks like an awful show. Though, if it was 1984 and there was a house show with Hogan, Snuka, Steamboat, DiBiase, Valentine, Bret Hart, Rotundo, and the Sheepherders on it, it'd be a great card.
  3. As a Phillies phan, I am very optimistic about next year's team, bats-wise.
  4. Heenan's WWF debut:
  5. The only thing that could have topped it is if Monsoon had left the broadcast table and saved Heenan from a beatdown. The crowd would have lost it for that.
  6. This tag match then led to Heenan vs. Fuji at the Nassau Colosseum.
  7. He has two starts left, so it’s likely that he could climb up to 15th place.
  8. WCW Nitro comes back from commercial. A series of promotional sponsor logo spots appear on-screen as Schiavone reads them. The second or third was for Snickers. Heenan: Heh heh heh heh. Schiavone: ....and Snickers! Packed with - Heenan (continues): heh heh heh. Schiavone: peanu- what are you laughing about? Heenan (quietly): I'm not, I'm snickering. *silence for the rest of the spot*
  9. As seen in the July thread, Yoan Moncada damn near destroyed his knee and Willy Garcia's head with an inadvertent Bomaye Knee last night. Luckily x-rays were negative, though Garcia certainly has a concussion.
  10. Is that the industry term for the "babyface makes their comeback with three little, shitty clotheslines while the heel inexplicably keeps getting up to receive each one" sequence that I despise?

    MLB - JULY 2017

He should be able to get to at least 300, though - he's still 85 innings below his previous max, and his SO9 average is a career-high 12.7.

    MLB - JULY 2017

Yankees trade pitcher Tyler Webb to the Brewers, receiving prospect Garrett Cooper. Maybe someday he'll be....The Pride of the Yankees. I'll show myself out.

    MLB - JULY 2017

Quintana is awesome, and the Cubs will be thrilled in the end.
  14. Correct - Mascaras in December 1972 is the first masked guy. Before that guys like Olympico would wear the open-face hood look:
  15. I think so; I remember it with Flair, Savage and Bret as well.
  16. I don't remember that, but I do remember him doing his two when-in-Japan fancy moves (the leg step-over into a cross-armbreaker; the move-chain of "headlock-facelock-hammerlock-drop toehold") in select WCW matches.
  17. I'm still miffed that we never got Flair vs. Sabu.
  18. I love watching those old Garden crowds; they're alive and reacting to the most basic stuff, and then when seeing something totally contrary to that style (Tiger Mask/Dynamite Kid, or Cobra/Black Tiger for examples), they completely go apeshit for it. They're just happy to be there!
  19. Now I'm trying to envision the finishing sequence...Hulk Up, "You" finger-point, block, 3 punches, Irish Whip, Big Boot which *dazes* the standing opponent and thus spinning them around, SLEEPER.
  20. Good Lord - no, I'm not advocating that Hogan should have cycled up again, or that anyone should. I was merely responding to the idea that Hogan would be the advocate for bigger wrestlers by pointing out that he had gotten much much smaller in comparison to his former self. Scrawny only in comparison to himself pre-93.
  21. '93 Hogan was fairly scrawny; I don't think he'd be the "big guy" to spotlight then.

    MLB 2017 - JUNE

Yeah, at least - an orthopedic surgeon commented on Deadspin about the complexity:
  23. Knowing Vince, he'd opt for one of those ventricular assist devices like Dick Cheney, where he technically has no pulse, just so he could brag about it. "HAHAHA I HAVE NO HEARTBEAT, PAL!"
  24. I think El Gigante debuted before him.
