  1. I finally remembered to track down this song.
  2. I enjoyed The Last Exorcism up until the last five minutes. It got assigned to me as part of one of our THIS IS HALLOWEEN ventures. I thought it started off strong, with Cotton being the perfect carny preacher/exorcist who didn't believe the garbage he was selling--until he runs into the right/wrong family. If she had been a big name, Ashley Bell would have been Oscar nominated for her turn as Nell. She was that good. Everything seemed right until--blam-o, what a cruddy ending. Aggravating as all out.
  3. FIBBER! Go watch the ending of Piranha. What happened, man? You used to be cool You've changed.
  4. Not 100% sure that guy even existed.*** *** based on an article from Olde Ye Inquirie, the TMZ of its day
  5. Simmons is a weenie. I've said it before, saying it again is no big thing.
  6. Win the Ravens' practice scrimmage! Get a visit from the ice cream truck! Watch as teammates prance happily to get a frosty treat!
  7. Give AP credit for ambition. I don't see it happening, either. But at least he cares, which is more than we can say for a large number of them.
  8. I heard so many times before. . .yet the story stays the same. When will it change? Not now, not ever. The end. *rattles tin cup for quarters*
  9. It's not called the Evil Empire for nothing. Mickey owns us all, including the moon and stars! All hail Cryogenic Xenu Walt Disney! *adjusts tinfoil hat*
  10. Something about Grant did seem younger than Stewart, though. Being a dashing Brit who's often cast because of that has its perks.
  11. The first hour of Insidious was great in its creepiness, a fantastic haunted house/vengeful ghost story. Once "The Further" was introduced, it all went downhill. Such a shame. It's a good movie IMO, but the last third took it down several notches for me.
  12. Corman came off as the boss he is in that doc. Dude squeezed pennies until Lincoln hollered, but he has such a sweet neighborly demeanor to him. It was nice to see that everyone understood what they were doing wasn't high art, but they enjoyed it and they all seemed content with their lives. Good times.
  13. For all the flack he took for his play against Alabama and the Lennay Kekua debacle, Manti Te'o seems to be doing well with San Diego and even found time to teacher former nemeis/current teammate D.J. Fluker how to swim: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/manti-te-o-helped-fellow-chargers-rookie-d-170127651.html
  14. Mr. Kimball was very accommodating when we took a tour of the Test Kitchen last year and he happened to be walking through the lobby while we were waiting for the tour guide/EiC of the magazine. ETA: If you like America's Test Kitchen, definitely give Cook's Country a try. Same basic people (Kimball, Julia, Bridget, Adam and Jack), different set. Yay, glad to know that he can keep his weeniness in check. But seriously, he does have a haughty air about him that seeps through, at least to me. He could be a swell guy, but it doesn't always come across.
  15. WWE has the same problem as daytime drama: they don't develop new characters properly, have their older characters behave in ways that make no sense, and no longer write compelling stories/arcs. In its push to become mainstream, the WWE has totally abandoned what would work in that scenario.
  16. The first one was fantastic until the last 20 minutes or so. This one shows promise, but I've gotta see how they explain Patrick Wilson's character being OK now.
  17. I hope MLB is underestimating how far A-Rod will go to fight this. What does he have to lose? Get banned for life, or take the deal and never play another in his life, anyway. His digging in and forcing Selig and Co. to fight would be absurd comedy at its peak. And better than 90% of the league's games, I'd wager. How much money is on his contract beyond 2014? That's what he potentially loses. I've heard $60 million or so, but that could be wrong. If you've heard that, then why are you asking what he has to lose by fighting? *SWOOSH* Why are you asking questions when you missed the point? Or is that your point?
  18. I wrote a review of MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED a long time ago. I'll have to look it up and post it here. It's a great watch.
  19. Justin Bieber is swaggy. He said so in a song. Just saying.

  22. Wracked with guilt over the suicide of her sister Ai, who was tormented by high school bullies, pretty young karate student Megu accompanies a group of older friends on a camping trip into the woods: smart girl Aya, her druggie boyfriend Také, big-boobed model Maki, and nerdy Naoi. Things start to go badly when Maki finds a parasitical worm inside a fish they catch – and wolfs it down alive, in the hope that it’ll help keep her skinny! Soon after, and not so unexpectedly in situations like this, zombies show up and begin to complicate things further. After they’re attached by a crowd of poop-covered undead who emerge from an outhouse toilet, the group seeks refuge at the home of strange Dr. Tanaka and his daughter Sachi. But unbeknownst to them, Tanaka has been conducting experiments on the parasites—and the zombies!—and has another fate in mind for the five strangers from the city. What’s the connection between the parasites and the zombies? And can Megu’s karate alone help them escape, or will she have to rely on the liberating power of farts to save the day? FYI, it's world premiere was at the Fantastic Fest in Austin,2011 Many thanks! I'll have to look for this one at some point. Sounds hilariously bad!
  23. As much as I consider myself a horror film buff, I cannot bring myself to watch that movie. I read the Wiki description and that was enough for me. Those of us who watch horror know we're doing to come across some weird stuff done in the name of art, but ASF seems to go too far.
  24. And if there's anything I dislike more than a formulaic slasher, it's a formulaic slasher that tries to hit me with "clever" plot twists that I saw coming about sixteen, maybe seventeen miles away. Yeah, the acting and production values in Mandy Lane were way better than in your average early-80s generic Dead Teenager flick, but that's just the icing, not the cake. And I thought All The Boys... was some pretty goddamn rancid cake. Especially when it trotted out a lot of the same old slasher cliches that we've seen far too many times, right in the middle of pretending it was doing something different. (Which is also one of many reasons that I should never start ranting about the Scream franchise or else I'll never stop.) With all due respect, I think you missed the overall arc--which is to take one of the major elements of this genre, turn it on its head, and then see how it plays out against the other genre staples that have remained the same. I think you're overlooking the feminist aspect of it, too First off, let's agree that the movie is GORGEOUS. It may be the most artistic approach given to a teen slasher film. It has a lush look, something you don't expect from a movie of this genre. The acting is also well above the grade. Amber Heard makes Mandy super approachable. She could have been a Teen Queen Prom Time Barbie type--a cold, distant beauty. But there's an earthiness to her that makes her charming. Anson Mount gives dimension to his ranch hand character in what could have been a throwaway role. The other characters don't get fleshed out much, but the actors are very good. I thought the big twist was intriguing, if underdeveloped. It plays on what we think is truly innocent within these type of movie, and by extension within the confines of high school. I liked it, but acknowledge that you can see it coming due to it not being intergrated fully within the story. It starts to stick out in an awkward way. I think the movie's biggest mistake is taking itself too seriously. Had it kept the same motif but presented it as tongue-in-cheek, it would have acquitted itself better. As is, though, it's a solid movie with an interesting concept that didn't fully live up to its potential. But it's still worth a viewing for anyone that enjoys teen slasher films. So don't listen to ol' Jingus. BLR would not lead you wrong--this time.
