  1. Weirdly proportioned Hulk Hogan is going to be in my nightmares at some point, isn't he?'
  2. I believe I agree with that. Also thought they dropped the ball on Miz&R-Truth: Lead Pipe Terrorists. Truth got suspended for a wellness violation and when he came back, they broke up the team, turned Truth face, and pushed him into the tag team with Kofi. I assumed the face turn and midcard demotion was more punishment.
  3. Tebow was cut. First Take is going to be something else next week.
  4. Am I the only person that still likes Eva? I agree with most of the criticisms, but still enjoy most of it. I've really enjoyed the Evangelion rebuild. Kinda bummed that the last movie won't be released (in Japan) for over a year.
  5. That was brutal. Probably not all-time awful, but AJ's a decent enough promo and that was probably his worst promo in quite a while. And it's really hard to take him serious while he's wearing those oversized gloves.
  6. When my wife and I first got serious, I made her promise never to risk our relationship in a ladder match. I'm old school. Texas bullrope match or nothing!
  7. I feel the same way. AJ's not a megastar and probably has limited value outside of TNA, but he's the closest thing they've ever had to a homegrown babyface ace. I kinda think the only they let him walk over money is if the end is near. Hogan's just posturing. Whenever he gets let go or the company really does fold, he'll spin it as a case of him and Bisch not being given the resources to properly get the job done.
  8. Was watching this a bit earlier and got nostalgic for the bad promo thread. From USWA, the video debut of the Dream Warriors. Three awful promos for the price of one.
  9. You're thinking of Lawler. Jokes, aside, yeah, Ric Hogan was busted for child porn a few years later.
  10. USWA late 1996. Words fail me. This makes me wish they had given Kowabunga (wrestling turtle) a run with the belt instead.
  11. Came later. When did Jackie/Miss Texas win the middleweight belt? I remember her feuding with Downtown Bruno/Uptown Karen, but I don't remember her winning a men's/open title in USWA (she did win the women's title six times or so). Can't find anything online to indicate she ever beat Jamie Dundee for the title. The only men's title I remember her winning was the WWE Cruiserweight Title (beat Chavo),
  12. Chris Jericho Al Snow and Unabomb (Glen Jacobs/Kane) from their short run in Smoky Mountain Wrestling Hunter. I don't recall him looking that young in WCW. Michael Hayes. He probably had that perm in kindergarten.
  13. USWA, 1991 Lawler's the babyface here. The video doesn't show it, but the segment starts when Jerry saves a jobber from being hung by the masked Texas Ranger (Jeff Gaylord, irrc). Remember, Lawler's the babyface. Yeah. Odd way to book a babyface.
  14. I know I've seen this PPV in it's entirely, but I don't remember it all. It sounds mostly awful, so I assume I'm repressing the memory to preserve my sanity. (I imagine a lot of people who worked for WCW during the later years are repressing the memories).
  15. I have no idea what twerking even is. I'm old, apparently. I could google "twerking", but.... somehow, i suspect I'm no worse off remaining ignorant. On the plus side, Kyle Baker got a mention in this thread. I bet it's been 15 years or so since I've heard his name. Big fan of some of comic book work way back when (around the time Why I Hate Saturn was published).
  16. Same. There ended up being parts of the show I liked, but, overall, it felt like a slog. I'll give it at least this week, maybe a couple weeks. I really don't expect this to fly. The ESPN/Olbermann dynamic strikes me as something that can't last for long, and I don't think Olbermann has a personality that plays well with sports fans. Watching the show last night, I felt like I was watching the smartest guy in the room "slumming" by discussing sports. That may be true. After he became a political commentator, Olbermann said he would never go back to sports and generally acted (in interviews) like he was above being a sportscaster. So I'm wondering if this experiment isn't a case of Olbermann burning his bridges and needing a friendly audience to make some money while he rehabs his image with prospective employers. It was a bit surreal seeing Olbermann and Jason Whitlock together on ESPN. I really thought both would be persona non grata for life with the network. Who's next? Can we get Dan Patrick in to host the show after Olbermann rips his bosses and gets fired? (Actually, I'd prefer to see Patrick hosting a late night show.) How is Crowd Goes Wild? I keep forgetting Fox Sports 1 is as thing now, so I haven't caught the show yet. I've heard the Tebow thing was brilliant. Skip and Steven A Smith should bring in a couple large barrels and do the same thing (a jar will be way too small for Skip, in particular).
  17. Fuck you, Summer! I loathe heat and humidity. This has been a fairly average summer in my neck of the woods and I've hated it anyway. Just tired of it all. My wife and I have been arguing for two years about where to live. She wants to move back to the South to be closer to her family. She also envisions us living in the South without air conditioning (she grew up in Alabama w/o AC), I'm too hot here in the Ohio Valley. I'm not moving somewhere warmer. I've actually been applying for jobs in SF, San Diego, Seattle. At this point, our relationship is... not good. I'm anticipating we move two different parts of the country in 2014 (there are other issues in the marriage, but this is the most contentious).
  18. The Olbermann show seems like it has been going on forever. It's been on the air for 25 minutes. Jason Whitlock looks to have aged at least a decade since the last time I've seen him.
  19. Judy Bagwell supposedly called JR so many times badgering him about pushes and perks for Buff that he (Buff) was explicitly told JR never wanted to hear from his mom ever again. What makes it more pathetic is that the Judy Bagwell locker room stories go back to at least Global in the early 90's (Judy thought Marcus should be the promotion's champion and told the booker so. Repeatedly). Keep in mind that Marcus got into the business in 1990 and joined Global in 1991, so he was a rookie at the time. You'd think after a decade or so of locker room ribs and stories, Buff would handle his own business or at least reign his mom in. Guess not.
  20. "Dream Machine" Troy Graham gets tarred and feathered by Jerry Lawler after the First Family jumps Lawler, but fails to beat him down This leads to..... I wouldn't exactly call this a good promo by Graham, but it's certainly memorable. I wasn't aware Jerry's last name had that many syllables. Oh, and Graham>anyone else. Criminally underrated.
