  1. So with the news that Mom's got breast cancer and will have surgery (see that other thread...), I found myself thinking "damn, I really don't wanna spend $1200 on plane tickets right now" to get my wife & I back to Michigan to care for her & Dad. I'm talking to Mom yesterday and she says, totally unprompted, that one of my uncles wants to be able to help but can't come - and so he wants to buy plane tickets for my brother & I. How awesome, right? That saves me a bundle right there. Then I come into work this morning and my brother, totally unprompted, says "hey, I'm gonna use points for my ticket, Trish can use my ticket from Uncle Awesome". So that's a big relief off my mind. Also awesome: my company is going to let me "work from home", even if half days, while I'm in Michigan so I don't have to burn any sick time or vacation time if not needed.
  2. And now I learn that Jill Hennessy's twin sister - she has a twin?? - actually played Claire Kincaid in one episode of L&O. The things you learn...
  3. I thought the exit for Borgia was cheap. It just felt so cliche - seems like every TV show with a female cop or lawyer on it eventually goes to the "female gets kidnapped" storyline. Yeah, they flipped the script a little by bumping her off but it still felt really unoriginal. And I'm with you on Rohm - she was so miscast and out of place, she HAD to be sleeping with somebody to be around that long. Checking out her page on IMDB and I see she was in American Hustle. Had no idea - and I've seen the movie. She also has one of the best profile pics on there that I've seen recently.

    MLB 2014: JUNE

Oh yeah, that's an error all day.
  5. In other news, Sony has announced their long-awaited "pre-load" program for the PS4 and it starts next week: IGN Article on Sony Pre-Loading
  6. Another excellent trailer for Sniper Elite III, this one showing the choose-your-own-adventure method for attacking an objective:
  7. Hopefully you "bought" Resogun while it was free so you can download that too.
  8. I don't think we brought any back
  9. In the spirit of the cop partnership rankings, I give you sure-to-be-hated sidekick lawyer/ADA rankings: 1) Jamie Ross - super hot, solid character, and came back a couple times as a lawyer - and then a judge 2) Paul Robinette - seems like the most lawyerly of the entire bunch. Probably because he's a dude and not just eye candy. 3) Abbie Carmichael - another of the super-hot sidekicks. Exuded the most "toughness" of any of the female ADAs and also got to actually grill people on the stand 4) Claire Kincaid - Easily the most shocking exit from the show. Little did we know she was boffing ole McCoy. 5) Connie Rubirosa - Ho hum, just another scorching hot sidekick. Nothing wrong with her - a solid character, solid performer, and tied for the most episodes 6) Alexandra Borgia - I always thought she was a bad fit and was an obvious attempt to get a "less attractive" sidekick for McCoy. Her character just didn't seem solid and just not a great fit. 7) Serena Southerlyn - From the utterly baffling exit from the show, to her constant wimpiness, and non-lawyerly attire, Serena always seemed in over her head. Not a good character at all - and she got the most episodes of any sidekick.
  10. Emmert has been getting roasted on the stand all day. It's glorious.

    MLB 2014: JUNE

Can't seem to find a video of it but I seem to recall some thinking it shoulda been an error. Wood also beaned a guy. And I think didn't allow a single ball out of the infield.
  12. Bix and I were talking about that a bit ago. It's like Amazon decided to release the best phone in the world - for December 2012.

I know he's kidding and all but I'd be tempted to fire a guy for that.

    MLB 2014: JUNE

Just remember its still June and they are still the Royals. . . Not so much worried about the Royals as I am Verlander and Scherzer getting shelled game after game.

    MLB 2014: JUNE

Yeah, that would explain a whole bunch of the pitching staff all starting to suck at the same time.
  16. Sounds about right. Yeah, don't think I'd argue with this either.

    MLB 2014: JUNE

Mad Max got shelled (again) yesterday, giving up 10 ER in 4+ as the Tigers fell out of first place. Then they actually get a decent pitching performance today and still lose - 2-1. Now 1.5 GB of the Royals, who've won 10 straight. Tigers were 27-12 and are now 36-32.
  18. My biggest gripe from the demo was the animation. It just isn't as smooth as it should be.
  19. I have this sudden urge to channel Sally Field...
  20. He wasn't just better, he was worlds better. And I like McCoy - a lot.
  21. Yeah, that first Bad Boys team averaged 107 a game - while playing at the slowest pace in the NBA. That's a relative term though - just 6 years later, their same pace would have been like 3rd fastest. You watch the 1990 NBA Finals and the execution is just awesome - super-crisp passing and a very fast pace. Granted, at least some of that is attributable to teams still not generally playing great defense but a lot of is also just that an effort was made to be faster with better execution.
  22. It's a little early for a lot of the reviews, quite frankly. This is a game that needs a little time to percolate so the online community can mature a bit and online fights can improve. We'll have to wait and see what Bix has to say in his review of the game. He's been playing for several days already. That said, I'm glad I didn't pre-order.
  23. I thought she was a fine replacement, especially since that part is so small in the scope of the show. Really, in the entire history of the show, my only casting beefs are Charlotte Rohm and whoever the female sidekick cop was played by. Being hot just ain't enough, especially on a show the quality of L&O.
  24. The last several days I've been binge watching the first season of Law & Order. This is easily one of my favorite shows of all-time and it's been great fun to revisit that first season, all episodes of which I've seen at least once before. That first season is just awesome. I love that they handle cases that aren't just "RIPPED FROM THE HEADLINES" - or even not from the headlines - murders. I like that the show has a gritty feel, none of this overly-polished stuff we see in later seasons. And the so-bad-it's-good music. The cast, of course, is great. Stone & Robinette are absolutely my favorite D.A. pairing throughout the entire life of the show. It's a shame Michael Moriarty ended up being batshit crazy and impossible to work with because he was sooooooooooooo good as Ben Stone. So much better than either of the two guys that came after. Anyway, just wanted to share that with you guys
