    2014 NFL PRESEASON

It ain't even ice water. It's just...water. Probably room fricking temperature.
  2. How the hell do you know he's not a doctor? Maybe he went to night school, pal.
  3. If you have a PS3, I recommend doing Double Dragon Neon.
  4. The great Netflix Instant Queue Purge of 2014 continues: The Real Rocky - Another entry in ESPN's incredible 30 For 30 series of documentaries, this one focuses on boxer Chuck Wepner and his role as the inspiration for the Rocky Balboa character. The movie also covers the rest of his Wepner's career and his post-fight life. Wepner has a pretty strong case as the inspiration for Rocky but he's also delusional in some ways, still claiming to have scored a knockdown on Muhammad Ali, for example (he actually stepped on Ali's foot and Ali tripped). The film also rearranges the timeline a bit, making it seem as if the Wepner/Andre match from Shea came after Rocky when it actually came before. This is not the best in the series by any means but it's still very good. I'll go with right at the Tabedoza Line: 7/10. Interview With the Assassin - Fake documentary about a news cameraman whose neighbor comes to him and asks him to film a confession. The neighbor confesses to having been the second shooter in the JFK assassination. From there, the two visit Dealey Plaza and try to track down other principles in the case. This movie is so terrible that I can't believe I made it all the way through. Good grief. 1/10.

I pretty much everything Bon Jovi up through "New Jersey" - except "Wanted Dead or Alive". Never liked that song. Desmond Child helped with several songs on "Slippery" and "New Jersey" and Diane Warren contributed to a song on "New Jersey". The vast majority of the songs (on the first four albums; after "New Jersey", Bon Jovi ceases to exist in Tabeworld) are attributed to "Bon Jovi, Sambora".

Ways to speed up baseball games: - any visit to the mound by any player counts as a mound visit - pitchers must face a minimum of 1 hitter after a mound visit (none of this "shortstop comes over, catcher comes over, then the manager makes a pitching change" nonsense) - 3 warm-up pitches for pitchers brought in during an inning - or just set a time clock. You get, say, 60 seconds from the time the signal to the bullpen is made until your first pitch must be thrown. So, hustle in from the 'pen, you get 10 or 12 warmups. Walk in super-slow, you get 2. - reduce commercial time between half-innings (yeah, right) - no commercial breaks on pitching changes during an inning (yeah, right) - the aforementioned pitch clock

There's so many exceptions in that rule that it's essentially toothless. Put a pitch clock on the pitcher and let 'er rip.
  9. Can you adjust the sensitivity on your mics? Obviously one person's mic is picking up the conversation from the other guy, which shouldn't be happening.

Mad Max goes out and throws an "HOLD UP, I GOT THIS" start for the Tigers, gets 5 runs of support - and they STILL nearly F it up. Scherzer goes 8 innings of 3-hit shutout ball, Ks 14 guys and gets his 14th win. But the Tigers bullpen is absolutely wretched so Phil Coke had to come in and give up 2 runs until Joba could put out the fire. Scherzer had already thrown 121 pitches after 8 so I understand pulling him but...man. With that bullpen, no lead is ever safe.
  11. The high that day was like 63! AND it was raining! Horrible conditions. Rainy and cold so you decided to go with the "weakest attempt at an Ezio Auditore from Asassins Creed 2 cosplay" outfit?
  12. You're gonna want to address the echoing sound. Is one of you playing on speakerphone or something?
  13. A couple more movies for you: Guardians of the Galaxy - I'm goin' all anarchist up in here and refusing to put this mini-review in the Marvel thread. DEAL WITH IT. Anyway, saw this yesterday with a couple guys from work. I'm not a comics guy, knew nothing about this franchise until a month ago. Saw the Imax 3D version, spending $29 on ticket/pop/popcorn by the time I was done. Thank god for the $25 gift certificate I had. Anyway, fun movie. Enjoyed it a lot. A nice balance of humor and action without being completely silly. I thought "Rocket" stole the show. Unimpressed with Zoe Saldana as Gamora - thought she looked...old. Definitely liked Karen Gillan as Nebula, would have loved to have seen a lot more of her. As for the Imax and 3D aspects, can't say they were worth the extra money. The 3D was nice but not particularly necessary. I was MUCH more impressed with the 3D in the trailer for the new Hobbit movie. Anyway, a fun time. 8/10. Undefeated - Documentary covering the 2009 season for the Manassas (Tenn.) High School football team. Bill Courtney is the volunteer head coach entering his 6th season after taking over a program that had gone 5-95 in the 10 seasons prior to his arrival. He has built up a respectable program and is obviously very dedicated to the kids and to the team. This is a fantastic documentary, wonderfully capturing the highs and lows of the season. The movie focuses on three players in particular - the superstar lineman (OC Brown), the returning felon (Chavis), and the undersized smart kid (Money). Their stories are well-told and you root for all of them. Anyway, I'm a sucker for good sports documentaries, especially football, and this one is no exception. Netflix told me going in they thought I'd give this a 9/10 and they were right. 9/10.
  14. Except that's not what was said. Still not great but definitely more in the "hey, it's kinda interesting that you play a sport generally played by boys. how come you went that way?" question than the distorted statement you attributed to him.
  15. Has a concussion and out at least a week but no neck or back injury, so that's great news.
  16. You took the words right out of my mouth.
  17. That movie hits me on a whole bunch of levels as I can strongly relate to the Matt Damon character. But Robin Williams was by far the best part of it.
  18. With the news that Tomb Raider is just a timed exclusive, I can't help but think what a good move this was for CD and Squeenix. They'll sell a buttload of games on the Xbone, they'll either pay less royalties than normal or pocket a huge chunk of cash - or both. And then 6 months later, they'll sell the PS4 version they've undoubtedly been making all along, and they'll sell a ton of copies of that. Win-win for them.
  19. Clearing out the queue on Netflix streaming: Apostle of Comedy: Onward and Upward - I have no idea how this got in my queue in the first place. If you're not familiar, the "Apostles" are a trio of comedians that do Christian "family friendly" comedy. This particular concert was filmed at some kind of marriage seminar/retreat thing. The humor is not religious, just not dirty. And, quite frankly, that's a refreshing change from 99.99999% of all comedy out there. And...it's funny. I laughed A LOT. Very, very entertaining. 8/10. Devil's Knot - Hollywood take on the West Memphis Three case. Reese Witherspoon stars but does nothing of note. This is a very "blah" retelling of the case. It will certainly convince you that the boys were railroaded but it does so in a very...average way. This isn't bad or anything but if you're familiar with the case, there's no need to watch this. If you're not familiar, watch the documentaries instead. 5/10.

    MLB 2014: AUGUST

Tigers lose again to the Pirates, this time 4-2. Fans on Facebook praise the starting pitcher, blame bullpen for loss. Their lines: Starter (Robbie Ray) - 5 IP, 4 ER Relievers - 3 IP, 0 ER ??????????????????????????? Today we get the MLB debut of Buck Farmer, who has exactly 1 appearance above single A in his career (one start at AA).

When they picked up David Price, I had the same thought.
  22. Yeah, well how many of you had a dead elephant buried at your local mall as a kid? Cuz I did
  23. Yeah, sounds like Rise of the Tomb Raider is not a timed exclusive. When asked about it, Squeenix pointed out the other Tomb Raider games coming to PS4 and PC.
