  1. Good rule of thumb for the villain in any form of storytelling, really.
  2. Heenan and Ventura were right about him all along. All those years Hogan actually was the heel except America cheered for him. Metaphor for the 80s?
  3. And yes, Bret absolutely had the moral high ground in 1997.
  4. Even though it wasn't actually a heel turn, Sting's walking out of War Games 96 and the "you didn't trust me, so why should I fight for you?" speech to the WCW fans before he went Achilles Sulking In His Tent for the first half of the NWO angle was completely on point. I mean, how many times had WCW run an Imposter Sting before that? At least Cobra was the right height and hair color unlike Barry frickin' Windham, but still, given the history of unconvincing facsimile Stings he had every right to get pissed at the fans and/or Luger & Flair for buying into one (particularly since the Horsemen were responsible for at least one of the previous scams, you'd think they'd remember their own schemes).
  5. The more cynical among us might posit that A-Rod has gotten a lot of practice in saying things he doesn't necessarily believe but knows sound good. But yeah, he seems like he could make it a regular gig if he doesn't mind the pay cut.
  6. Unfortunately, taking a home run cut in a situation where only a single is necessary is part of Donaldson's deal. Could've slapped that first strike into right field, and trying to homer off Wade Davis is generally a fool's errand. Ah well.
  7. A New Stadium Is Not A Means, Winston. It Is An End.
  8. Jed York thinks the Super Bowl works like the world cup and the host qualifies automatically
  9. In the country that brought you such hits as "drop of blood"? Of course he does.
  10. Pretty much this. I mean, honestly, there was so much to hate over the past almost 15 years that I couldn't even get together who I hated most. Fortunately, the Raiders of now are merely a dull ache instead of a throbbing pain. Yeah, Crabtree would be who I'd pick now, though I have a feeling Latavius Murray is going to remain McFadden-level fragile and force me to hate him. I DO still hate Jack Del Rio though. Crabtree makes a great Dwight Clark when he isn't trying to be Jerry Rice. Unfortunately the latter happens fairly often.
  11. It's also a bit of a relief to not have to muster qualifiers to defend Jim Harbaugh anymore too, tbh.
  12. The Sharks continue to employ Raffi Torres. If you're gonna sell your soul, at least get a championship out of it.
  13. Oh and I could not help but notice the refreshing lack of a God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch tonight. That's enough to get me pulling for the Jays to be a regular MLB postseason participant. [Also, one more reason to recreate the Expos.]
  14. 4 run 9th inning to pull a blowout close. Bring garlic and a stake when you're playing Kansas City.
  15. And that is all the people need to know.
  16. I opened this thread to post Rat Scabies. As you have seen to that, I'll go with his bandmate Captain Sensible. As a wrestling board one of us must mention Sid Vicious, right? I would be very remiss if I failed to mention Siouxsie Sioux since, yes, I ripped her idea off for my board name.
  17. Is Bartolo Colon truly the last active Montreal Expo?
  18. Kinda fun to see Wrigley get to shit itself like that. Pace yourself guys. You might get to do it again pretty soon.
  19. Greg Roman is gone but the 49ers' compulsion to race down the field and throw shitty passes at the goal line instead of eat clock/time outs continues. They actually ran it in eventually, of course, but throwing when you've got 2:00 and 2 timeouts left (and they have all 3)? If nothing else you make them use their timeouts on Defense. Still their only hope after doing that -- Goofus Eli winning out over Gallant Eli and throwing an INT -- almost happened, I guess. But, well, we had fair warning they were going to stink this year...
  20. They let Cuzzi do a playoff game? What, does Joe West have the flu or something?
  21. A heel who got too cool was forever in danger of being embraced by the bloodthirsty ECW crowd. [?] As "smart" as the ECW crowd wanted to believe it was, you needed someone with at least some portion of "go away heat" [?] Justin was thus an ideal heel for the ECW crowd because his offense and promos would never appeal to their sense of cool. [?] That was at least partly what I thought at the time. I think.
  22. Half a season before I have to hold my nose and root for Raffi by association. Sounds good to me. That might be enough time to brace myself for it.
  23. Peeled off a piece from beyond the grave. True team player.
  24. Not in Kansas City! Their guy hit seven today!
