  1. That reminds me, I've still never seen Ms. 45...
  2. Karen Allen has been working forever so you can file her under "working character actor" instead of "one and done". And as said before... Animal House? C'mon. I didn't even remember her in the Indy films, but I've not went back and watched them in forever. I blame Spielberg; most things he's done give me hives.
  3. Score! I went out to Family Video today trying to find anything decent in their worthless selection of new releases and ended up digging through their "for sale" section. Got Only God Forgives, Trailer Park Boys: Don't Legalize It (not as funny as Countdown to Liquor Day but close), and Wyrmwood (Aussie zombie flick that I haven't seen yet) on DVD for round about $6. How's Wyrmwood?
  4. The spinal tap was the only thing that moved the needle on the audience I saw it with. There's no way to not make that uncomfortable.
  5. There are very few filmmakers that can create something that cuts to the marrow in regards to fear these days. A lot of us enjoy the grotesque and the weird but not many want to be really scared. They want the illusion of fear but don't want the reality. That level is different for all however -- look at the near worship of true crime and fake true crime shows in US culture. It's almost safe to enjoy the rush of fear of something so common now, just like it was a rush to watch Dragnet or Mannix or something back in the day. Take anyone that watches CSI and its spinoffs on the regular and drop them into Alien, though...
  6. I noticed some parts that weren't in sequential order on the PR extras list aside from what I already mentioned, but if you go by the date you're good. Nothing else missing. The question now is, when do we get individual threads for the matches because I'm ready to start reviewing these suckers.
  7. Recently Michael Biehn said that a literal sequel to Alien and Aliens with his character and a grown Newt is still on the back burner somewhere, because Sigourney doesn't want to leave it laying with Alien Resurrection being her final bow-out in the series. Cross your fingers.
  8. Yep. Hopefully they take the same tact with the new one. Everyone knows the Xenomorph like the back of their hand now, but it can still pack a punch -- that trailer for the last Alien game was something I literally could not watch when it came on the TV after the first time seeing it out of nowhere in the middle of a pitch black room laying in bed one night.
  9. I thought it was kind of oversold as a movie in general for years (in quality, level of scares, etc.) but finally seeing it in a theater with a bunch of naysaying college brats who dumped on it made me appreciate how good it really was. The slow burn did not impress the youngins and it made me pleased that I could enjoy it while realizing how pigheaded they were. I was even more pleased watching Night of the Living Dead with a bunch of them and seeing the laughter and comments get shut the fuck down as the movie progressed; one young lady behind me whined at the end "that was actually really scary..." Here's a pretty cool article about the Exorcist trailer http://dangerousminds.net/comments/terrifying_rejected_exorcist_soundtrack_the_director_literally_threw_ou
  10. Ah man, the Ruby VHS box always fucked with me when I was a kid. After watching that trailer I seriously regret never renting it. The scary trailers game is probably won by this. They had to rescore the entire film after test audiences pretty much ran away screaming, literally. Also: do not watch if you are epileptic.
  11. It was pretty funny that I caught some of Stepbrothers on TV then popped in Magic only to find a 36 years younger Ed Lauter staring at me from the screen again. EDIT: Goddammit, I mixed him up with Richard Jenkins. Hey, if you squinted hard, could you tell the difference? EDIT II GODDAMMIT
  12. Jeez, I wonder about some of you. Either feeling nothing or just plain forgetting what happened in a movie as mean as Last House on the Left... Anyway, got around to watching some of the VHS pile last night. Magic was FUCKED. UP. It didn't give me a pathological fear of dolls, but it did make me reflect on personal failure way more than I wanted to. Which meant that the next two watches were the Dead Kennedys Early Years (TM Target Video) and Wayne's World in order to lighten the mood. BTW, in case you want to be seriously creeped out, here's the OG Magic trailer that got pulled after parents said it was scaring their kids:
  13. It's hilarious, as are Manowar. At the same time I have to use this as an opportunity to pimp their first four albums. Yes, they are ridiculous; yes, they are awesome as well. You wanna yell at somebody go yell at the Rhapsody fans. EDIT: Good lord. 日本語でマノウォー!
  14. What I want to know is why CMLL is running a hair match when they've banned blood.
  15. Remaking Suspiria is like remaking Citizen Kane.
  16. I think every wrestling memoir in the early 2000s had a mention of Kurt Angle as the future of the business or some such. Yeah, look where that went.
  17. Ah, thank Satan, they didn't fuck it up. That makes me very, very happy.
  18. Coming to the end of the PR extras right now and there is some really insane shit on here. Every other segment has blood in it and there is a super morbid part where they show Brody's last match ever match (against Abby) with extremely somber announcement to start where Brody chokes Abby with a cable for several minutes straight and it's creepy as hell. Then immediately after there's a long written announcement that Hugo reads about Brody's death and the one-two punch of that actually put a bad taste in my mouth and made me stop watching for a minute. They also mention Brody in passing during the improbable WWC Awards Show (hosted by Gordon Solie and the gal from Pro Wrestling USA!) and it is really brief and Gordon doesn't look pleased. Of course the ceremony ends with Hercules Ayala attacking Colon in front of his wife and everybody in their best duds. The matches on here are gonna be nuts. Oh yeah, apparently they really liked the theme from Friday the 13th Part 3D (the disco one) because it shows up in a bunch of these clips. Here's some additional material from the DVDVR archives where DEAN and Phil review a bunch of stuff that made the set, too! http://www.otherarena.com/nCo/dvdvr/dvdvr65.html From DVDVR #72:
  19. Huh, I looked up Hunico (just to find out the details of the catering incident) and found out that he might've been the real first Mistico down in Ciudad Juarez before CMLL copyrighted the name in 2005. He was also an accomplished state wrestling champion in high school
  20. Yep. The idea of a ghost fighting a ghost is just stupid. I mean at least Freddy vs. Jason was ghost (sorta) versus zombie. There's some kind of tangible crossover between the spirit world and the physical world there.
  21. For fuck's sake boys it's Jericho and Owens photoshopped as Jay and Silent Bob
  22. The last time Nic Cage kidnapped a baby we got a pretty good movie out of it. If that isn't another castle-rent paycheck for him it could be fun. First there was Frankenstein vs. the Wolf Man... then King Kong vs. Godzilla... then Freddy vs. Jason... NOW! Two ghosts battle it out in the most epic fight of all -- how to keep my attention span!
  23. They were pretty lively for Cesaro/Sheamus (even a "This is Awesome") and got close to it for Cesaro/Rusev, which says a lot. "YOU RESPECT MY WIFE" from Rusev was pretty great btw. Simple fury from him always works. In comparison whoever writes Cena's "funny" promos apparently wrote the Club sketch and Reigns' lines.
