DVD/BR Collector Thread for the Physical Media Enthusiasts
Curt McGirt replied to jaedmc's topic in MOVIES & TV
Well, thanks, but the other part of my collector streak (the music part/the seriously bad part) took all the money I was gonna spend on Target today, so that's out of the picture. (For the record, that would be vinyl copies of Gauze - Fuck Heads and X - Los Angeles) -

I was about to say, I thought I saw that somebody was bringing Kasai in in the Wrestlemania weekend thread or some other thread. Neat coincidence, them getting to meet. -

Yeah, that is NOT Nada Surf (and all the better for it). That's actually awesome. ......................................... KABUKI! -

Don's mustache ordered Ribera to make the jacket gold. They complied, as one should. That Tracy shirt is awesome. Where the hell did that meeting take place, btw? Did Crazy Monkey get booked by a money mark in Chicago? -
FEBRUARY 2019 WRESTLING DISCUSSION.

I turned 35 last December and thinking about those guys is crazy. Wrestling truly is a young man's endeavor. It also underlines how much I wasted my twenties but I didn't need to read that to think about that... -
DVD/BR Collector Thread for the Physical Media Enthusiasts
Curt McGirt replied to jaedmc's topic in MOVIES & TV
I just read a David Schow piece titled "The Traps of Nostalgia" that everyone in this thread would relate to. He talks about being a collector and how hard it used to be, in the days when you would record AUDIO of TV showings just to have something to hold onto of a film, then a little later 16mm prints (if you've ever had an issue of Famous Monsters in your possession you've seen the ads for these), prior to even VHS. He also mentions that in the digital age things can be lost just as easy as ever, as the makers of Payback had their film files wiped entirely, forcing them to go back to the print and actually cut film, which they had never done before. And unfortunately, even though he's tried, he still can't get World Without End a DVD release. -
Watched the Universo replay of most of the Kofi match. Bryan puts him through the ringer. Missed whatever Jeff did (I was trying to watch Impact and listen to music too). Joe does absolutely everything short of sodomizing him in and out of the ring. AJ does whatever he can as a babyface at that point. Then he has to submit Kofi with mere minutes left to go... And Orton comes out, RKOuttanowhere, pinfall. This is why it's so so easy to hate this fucking company. Eat shit, Vince.

W.O.W. - Women of Wrestling (New Incarnation)
Curt McGirt replied to RIPPA's topic in FEDS JUST TRYING TO MAKE A BUCK
Tessa/Jungle Grrrl was pretty good, nice use of the ropes. Of course the end sucked but there was at least a visual pin. Then the TV autotunes to Impact and there's Tessa again, decked out like Onita ready for a death match? Okay. I don't know how they keep introducing new people every single episode. How deep is the WOW roster? Are any of them gonna reappear besides whoever's fighting for the belt? -
DVD/BR Collector Thread for the Physical Media Enthusiasts

Eh, I just went through 27 out of 50 pages of the Target stuff starting at the cheap stuff and a lot of it is shipping only over $25, and I only found two things in all that that I really wanted (the Black Mass/Blow twofer and Richard Pryor Live at the Sunset Strip). Where's the Scream Factory stuff? All I saw on the lower rung was a lot of awful crap like Super Mario Bros. and Catwoman. -

The crown/castle belt always looked super weird to me. New one is a big improvement. -
2019 ERNIE LADD MEMORIAL BLACK HISTORY MONTH REVIEWS
Curt McGirt replied to RIPPA's topic in MOVIES & TV
Another one I'd love to review if I had it. And it took me YEARS to see Next Friday -- I never thought it would be a patch on the first one. Turns out that I really didn't have a whole lot to worry about, actually.- 132 replies

2019 ERNIE LADD MEMORIAL BLACK HISTORY MONTH REVIEWS
Curt McGirt replied to RIPPA's topic in MOVIES & TV
Friday is beloved because some of us grew up with it. It was huge with the group I hung out with in high school. I must've seen it close to a hundred times by now -- literally -- and I will watch it every single time it comes on TV. It's iconic, and hilarious.- 132 replies

Mmmm, point taken.

I was just gonna mention that. Really, the answer for why Kofi deserves the belt is Jinder Mahal. If THAT load of crap can get a reign, then can't they put the belt on Kofi for at least a fortnight?

Fucking Ziggler... I've never been a big Kofi fan but him never getting a belt run in all this time is criminal.

The Yoko facepalm pin is so sick. -
You know, I've never seen him work. He was always referred to as "the good Sting" by the DVDVR boys, any truth to that or were they just being willfully obtuse?

I almost literally spit out the water I was drinking when I read that

Who's the white guy beneath Tenzan? Nice seeing Don Frye again.

Even coming from someone who has done more stupid shit when drunk than you can shake an empty 40 at, I have to ask: just how fucking drunk do you have to be to bow up to an armed police officer?! Especially in a town where you can likely be disappeared into a vacant within a block of where you're at? You gotta feel for Rusev, though venting like this probably isn't doing him any favors. -

...and so to complete the rentals, Sorry To Bother You was watched (again, as I already saw it in the the theater), and I realized that the film it most reminded me of was...? So, basically the highest recommendation possible. That would probably piss off Boots Riley so fucking much, but my opinion stands. Ignore that opinion completely and I still think it's my favorite movie and the best movie of the year.
