  1. or he could've not gone 3-5 in the UFC and gotten a good deal. when he fought Manuwa, i figured the loser would fade into obscurity. thanks for proving me right, Jimmo!
  2. please no Tate/Cyborg. i like rooting for Meisha but she would get absolutely steamrolled in that fight and i really don't want to see that. literally anybody else and i'm ok with it.
  3. a bit, but not completely, and not forever. if he loses, and loses badly, he'll get fights lined up with lower guys again, start talking again, and after those couple of wins, start calling out Aldo and we're right back. He can always say Aldo ducked him if nothing else, and people will be clamoring for the fight again.
  4. I read and loved that series. Tracked down all 20 issues about 10 years ago. The last one was a bit harder to find than I expected. It was that series that really got me into all the PD Golden Age heroes. Have you read any of the spin off series? Man o War is decent, same with Ferret. i haven't started reading any of them yet, but i fully plan to. i found the whole Protectors series to download and about half of the Ferret (bought the other half) Bought the Gravestone series and the Arrow and Airman one-shots. haven't been able to track down Man of War yet, but still looking. as far as Golden Age heroes go, Marvel's "the Twelve" has been by favorite series. Dynamite's "Project SuperPowers" was also fantastic in scope, but since it is left open-ended it kinda bums me out now. Any other suggestions?
  5. recently heard about a series called "the Protectors" from Malibu comics back in the early/mid 90s. it reimagines a bunch of public domain golden age heroes and brings them to the modern age. started downloading it. found out there were a number of one shots and spin off series that i can't find digitally (legally or otherwise). bought a lot of them off eBay. just started scanning them. man, this turned into a lot of work for just sorta wanting to read the team-up book
  6. finally got around to watching the first episode of Daredevil. liked it, but didn't love it. will continue watching the series. it always gets rave reviews so i expect it will be more good than bad.
  7. this may be the most horrifying pitch i've ever read on the internet. i'd watch it, tho.
  8. ok, i loved this movie. i don't understand the bad critic scores/audience reviews/whatever. solid action, good one liners, great callbacks to the original 2 films, and the story was engaging. absolutely no complaints here, and i will be buying it when it hits blu-ray (and i don't buy very many movies).
  9. today the last digital issue of Jiro Kuwata's Bat-Manga was released. for those that don't know, it was a Batman manga produced only in Japan in the 60s that was never seen stateside. this is where Lord Death Man from Grant Morrison's run came from. i have followed this from the word go, 53 weeks ago, and have loved every story and issue. just wanted to give it some props.
  10. Angle vs Shane (street fight @ king of the ring 2001) is one of my favorite matches ever. i know people around here hate Shane going toe-to-toe with a professional athlete and all that, but i never had a problem with him, and this match is the epitome of that.
  11. if it makes you feel any better, Giant's heel turn to join the 2nd time in May(ish) of 98 is equally bad.
  12. i didn't get into WCW until the Nitro era, but after the nWo came in, i was all about it. i'd watch whatever i could: Nitro on Mondays, Saturday Night at 6:05, Worldwide Saturdays at 1 am, Pro on Sunday afternoons... i loved when they changed the Worldwide set to be that black and green tech looking environment. i have a feeling i'm in the minority here on that one tho.
  13. What fights were they severely lacking? my memory doesn't quite fill in all of the details, but i remember your bigger names like Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes, Anderson Silva, GSP, etc. had quite a few of their fights on there. I think there was a Pride "best of" collection or two on there, but no full events. A couple of the early UFC events (like 1 and 2) and a few of the bigger ones (100, for example) were there, but there were SOOO many missing things it immediately turned me off. i do remember WEC being fairly prominent, tho, i'm not sure if it was full events or just highlights of then-current UFC fighters.
  14. Except the jerseys from other sports are wearable and from athletes someone may actually know.No one of the general public would know who Tom Lawlor or Cub Swanson are. Much less would they recognize Thomas Lawlor or Kevin Swanson. What a pathetic mess really. As Reebok wasn't a stale enough brand to partner with already. Eh we'll see. Everyone laughed at Fight Pass when it started, and it became profitable faster than WWE Network. When Fight Pass began they were basically offering past Dan Lauzon fights and unaired prelims from a ton of fighters no one cared to watch for $9.99 a month. Yeah, I'm gonna disagree with that. They had a ton of whole events at the start and a bunch of great WEC fights. Considering how much they had to cover, they got a lot of stuff up fast in just a couple months. I think the problem was people didn't like the search because it brought up some unrelated stuff. Plus, you had some streaming problems during the first couple cards and prelims. However, a lot of the complaints were negligible and just plain irrational. i signed up to Fight Pass for the free trial in the first week or two and thought it sucked. the fights they offered were severely lacking, the streaming wasn't the greatest, and the search feature sucked balls. i didn't laugh at it, but it had to make some huge improvements before it would be worth any money. i believe they've improved everything that i had issues with since then, so good on them.
  15. Aldo's the best featherweight of all time. It would make absolutely no sense to cut him. yeah, i definitely don't see the appeal of cutting the top featherweight who hasn't lost in a decade or whatever. it's not like we've got a line underneath him of proven draws that just can't get a shot. we'd be in no better place with Chad Mendes, Ricardo Lamas, or Max Holloway. Frankie Edgar wasn't a big time draw during his lightweight title reign. Conor is the only possibility, the hype leading up to this (and his previous fights) proves that, but definitely not worth running off the long time champ for.
  16. those jerseys.....yeah. ugly and plain as fuck. when it's been pretty well established that MMA fans go for the "tapout" or "affliction" style designs, why would you pull a 180 and completely whitewash everything?
  17. does wrestling society x coynt as a promotion going out of business? they at least had national tv. then again, thats all they had
  18. right. but to call it the "NWA Network" opens up a lot of missed opportunity. Maybe they'll gradually expand to include more of that stuff, or maybe they're just leveraging it to sell to Vince, or maybe they're delusional enough to think they'll make money with what they have. Good luck to them, whatever they're endgame is.
  19. re: NWA/Houston video library: they don't have anything newer than 1986? i can't imagine they'll get many people signing up for that. As stated, the older WWE events are the least-watched things on the WWE Network. now, if they aired more current stuff, like the NWA Showcase tv shows from 2008 (that aired on the Colours network for 10 episodes before never being seen again) or the 2009 run of that show, or the NWA World Title Tournament from 2007 (which they promised to release a dvd of, but never did), or even the "7 Levels of Hate" series between Colt and Pearce for the NWA Title, then it would at least have SOMETHING. has the NWA Title tournament from SMW ever been shown? or for that matter, the whole NWA/ECW tournament? (note: i am aware that WWE likely owns both of these) the 2 NWA Grand Slam events from 1993? how about any NWA title matches/cards from after the ECW tourney up until the TNA merger? or any smaller NWA fed's weekly shows. Anarchy and Wildside both had shows in the 2000s that likely feature current talent and have name recognition. just saying, there's plenty of unseen stuff out there to bolster a "NWA Network".
  20. damn man, 101 is ambitious. being done with 77 is impressive. i don't think i could average one a month, even if i wanted to. then again, if i read in my free time, it's comic books, so they're not really comparable.
  21. just read Batman- City of Crime (from Detective Comics #801-808 & 811-814). this is a slow-moving psychological thriller of a Batman tale that goes to some dark places. i really enjoyed it. don't think i've ever heard it mentioned, so wanted to give it some props.
  22. really became a fan during the Black Machismo gimmick. but since i didn't follow TNA for much after that, i don't know what's happened since then. But i always enjoyed seeing him wrestle. will make it a point to rewatch that Jay/Samoa Joe match and to check out that Jay/Liger match.
