  1. No argument here. Wrestling’s not a profession you get into if you want to be a responsible parent or spouse. Sherri probably wasn’t any better or worse than a few hundred (few thousand?) male wrestlers. Lol, she was probably still a better parent than Flair, though that’s a really low bar. Flair boasting on camera about how many women he slept with (the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary) was really slimy. I can’t imagine doing that on a show I knew my kids would probably eventually watch. I’m of the opinion that most people in the business are either immature or some variety of scumbag (usually several varieties of scumbag).
  2. Competition for worst tattoo in the NBA may be over forever. Lol, first photo I saw of it was taken close up… and I thought the lettering said “Dade One” or something like that. Didn’t realize until later that lower portions of letters are on black, not red. That had to be painful. Apparently, the tattoo artist used some sort of numbing crème, but still….
  3. Lol, she was going on live tv high or drunk. Why wouldn’t he fire her? Also, they covered Sherri’s firing in a minute or two at most. She was in WCW for a couple years, so I am assuming there’s plenty we don’t know. Maybe they tried to get her to go to rehab and she refused. Who know? I don’t. You probably don’t. We must have watched different shows, because my takeaway was that Sherri was an very gross person (stripper, basically gave away her child, longtime addictions to too many substances to list, apparently wasn’t too worried about hurting someone when she worked matches “in no condition to perform”). Eric is at fault if he honestly didn’t find out why she left WWE. I’m skeptical that’s true. If it is, he kinda deserved what he got out of her,
  4. I think of that line frequently while reading the board….
  5. “Janky, sleazy, and dumb” sums up my feelings about Splatterhouse too, lol. But, yeah, it”s a lot of fun. PS3 era has a lot of janky, unpolished games that I nonetheless like an awful lot. Ninja Blade, anyone? I mean, you ride a motorcycle straight down the side of a skyscraper into a giant parasite’s open mouth. If that’s not your idea of entertainment, I don’t know what to tell you. I own physical copies of Splatterhouse for both PS3 & X360.
  6. Finished Singularity over the weekend. Really enjoyed it. The time mechanics are a lot of fun and the offbeat, high-concept storyline is very interesting. Game has a “Russian BioShock” vibe to it that I dug. Pity it sold poorly and Raven Software got reduced to a Call of Duty support studio. Been playing second-tier Xbox & PS3 games lately & having a blast. Lollipop Chainsaw, Shadows of the Damned, Ninja Blade, El Shaddai, the Sherlock Holmes games, Afro Samurai, etc. That generation has a lot of slightly janky games that never found an audience but are great fun.
  7. I feel like every joke and gad in that trailer has been done in a few dozen other movies. And most of those movies weren’t good either.
  8. Our company president went on a rampage and fired most of the people who didn’t want to be here anyway (quiet quitters, culture warriors, people who wouldn’t come back to in-person work, the “all big companies are evil” set, etc.) so now those guys and gals suddenly care about their jobs and want me to intervene on their behalf I mean, if I was going to do that, I would probably have done that last week when our prez pulled me into a meeting about some of the bad actors in my department. Beyond that, well, my typical response goes something like “well, ordinarily I would, but do you remember that time when you went on social media and called me a moronic chud for supporting my employer? No? How about that time when you wished death on a coworker for voting Republican? Not ringing a bell? How about when you…..?” I’m really curious what people expect to happen when they run to social media to bash their employers, clients, coworkers, etc. I mean, I know Gen-Z’ers don’t believe in consequences, but some of us older folk still do. Anyway, company is better off today than it was last week, so I am content for now.
  9. He apparently tipped off other bettors that he was going to leave a couple games early, so they would know to take the under on his stat prop bet. i’m guessing “other bettors” means his bookie.
  10. I’m intrigued by the idea of Abolute, but somewhat pessimistic. I’m more of a Marvel & DC fan than the indies, but I don’t buy much Marvel and DC these days. Previous attempts to lure back big name creators largely fizzled out, though I enjoyed the books. New 52 had a lot of great books by writers and artists I’ll follow, but it ultimately didn’t make a dent in the industry or change DC’s trajectory. it’s high on my radar though, Early Ultimate Marvel and Wildstorm’s DC era are a couple of my favorite things about comics over the last 30 years, so if they can channel that….
  11. I rarely watch AEW but I’m all in for the Perry-Punk feud. That is where they’re going with this, right? Edit: Lol, that wasn’t meant to be a pun, but it is so I’m leaving it.
  12. Fan base seems pissed over this and I can't say I blame them. Pope may well turn out to be the guy, but it doesn’t seem like he was on anyone’s radar earlier in hiring season and it’s quite a turnaround in 24 hrs. UK fans started the day thinking they would probably get Scott Drew. At lunchtime, it was rumored UK was offering Dan Hurley $100 mil for eight years. Nope. Dinneritme talk was Billy Donovan. Nothing came of that. So they end the day hiring Pope and his 0 NCAA tourney wins and one season in a power conference. i’m not a UK fan and don’t have mich of an opinion either way about Pope, but he really feels like a guy, not the guy to me. You’re Kentucky. Money isn’t a huge issue, so you don’t have to rush to hire a guy. I just don’t get it. Neither does fan base. Good luck to Pope, but I think he’s going to have to win right away and do a heckuva sales job to win over alumni. i am impressed by Drew turning down Monopoly money because his wife didn’t want to uproot the family (their kids have spent their entire lives in Waco) and because the family prayed on it overnight and concluded God didn’t want them to go to Lexington (lol, there’s a joke there).
  13. Best thing about today’s eclipse is that it will be over in 8 hours.
  14. Didn’t Punk do a podcast last week where he *shock* painted himself as the victim? I’m assuming this is AEW’s response to that. I wouldn’t mind if the footage and whatever is said about it the footage puts an end to Punk the Outlaw Folk Hero. Probably won’t happen though. I’d bet Punk could be on camera punting babies at Jack Perry & clubbing seals and fans would still make excuses for him. He wears t-shirts & shouts slogans, y’know. Gotta be a great guy. if it’s just a pr stunt to pop a rating, welp, it’s one or the few things the company could do this weekend to draw attention away from WWE, but it could backfire. I kinda expect the tape to leave enough wiggle room for fans to defend Punk and Tony & the Bucks and whoever telling their side probably isn’t going to sway many people either. It maybe should, but probably won’t. Be interesting to see how this shakes out. I’m curious about the footage but I think airing it reeks of desperation and is something a bitter teenager would do to prove he’s right, so I don’t plan to invest two hours in AEW just for that. I probably won’t spend five minutes browsing the Dynamite thread or Meltzer’s recap, for that matter. Immature sh*t like this is one of several reasons I rarely watch wrestling anymore. At this point, AEW & the Jacksons will be no worse off if they stop giving Punk the attention he desperately wants. Just act like an adult and move on. edit: if it’s a bait and switch, the part of Punk should definitely be played by Colt Cabana. Or CP Munk. I would probsbly invest a few min in that.
  15. Gravity wasted his time trying to make PAC forget him when what he should have been doing was getting Tony Khan to forget his phone number,
  16. Ohtani’s reps say they’ve contacted law enforcement and asked for a probe into the “massive theft.” While they are at it, they should look into what kind of bookie lets a guy who probably makes $100,000/year get 4.5 million in debt. That’s the kind of guy I want to handle my action if I ever become a degenerate gambler.
  17. I feel like I’d have to be fairly naive to take this “it was the interpreter” story at face value. Particularly after both parties seem to have changed their stories in the space of 24 hrs. On the other hand, I like Ohtani & don’t really care if he lost millions gambling, so I’m probably willing to believe whatever tidy story MLB wants to feed me.
  18. Finished the recent Dead Space remake. Enjoyed it highly and would recommend it. Didn’t lose much in translation and is probably the definitive way to play Dead Space 1. That said, the best way to play the game is still the 2008 release on a Series X (also looks and plays fine on my PS3 with a SSD installed). Remake is a very good cover of that song you really like. Nothing wrong with the cover and it will stick in your head for while, but there’s only a fraction of “art” involved compared to the original and the cover will never hit you the way the original does. Remake is already off my console and I won’t be buying the physical edition (I buy digital first, then buy physical if it’s a game I will want to come back to. I rarely end up buying physical copies of remakes or remasters).
  19. At the moment, Steelers are saying Fields will not compete for the starting job.
  20. What has she been doing the past 10-16 years? I haven’t seen much from her since she left DC, aside from some low-profile gigs like Tomb Raider & Red Sonja which didn’t make a lot of waves. I’ll probably check out her X-Men book, but I feel like she’s either not going to stick around long or it will be a James Robinson situation where the later output seems well below what they did at their peak (imo). That said, I will most likely give it a try because Secret Six was really that good. New direction doesn’t do much for me though. It seems like a conscious attempt to channel the 90’s right down to the logos. Not sure that will be interesting to me, aside from a little curiosity about why they’re going that route. I feel like the X-books might be in a catch 22 situation. Krakoa really wasn’t my thing, but it was ambitious and different, so it’s going to be tough to follow that no matter what they do without feeling like the line is going backwards.
  21. From what I’ve read on social media from Fox Sports reporters, local reporters, etc., Pickett felt the Steelers had promised him the starting job next year and reacted ‘badly’ to Wilson’s signing, leading to everybody deciding it was time to move on. There’s also last year’s Steelers-Seattle game where Pickett was surprise deactivated about an hour before game time, allegedly because he refused to back up Mason Rudolph. It seems likely his relationship with teammates and the front office was a bit strained, for one reason or another. During Russ Wilson’s press conference today, he mentioned a lot of players contacted him to say how excited they were about him coming to Pittsburgh. i think the ‘KP was mishandled’ argument has merit. A lot of the blame can be laid on former offensive coordinator Matt Canada and Pickett got hurt in his second start after Canada was fired midseason. On the other hand, I don’t think Pickett was the guy and probably wasn’t going to improve enlough to be be the guy longterm. It’s tough to admit your franchise whiffed on a first round pick. Even tougher to admit you whiffed on a first-round qb. But, better to admit your mistake now than drag it out. GM Omar Khan didn’t draft Pickett and seems to be working to weed out the malcontents in the locker room. i don’t think Russ Wilson is washed up. Maybe he is, but I’m willing to see what he can still do. Also hoping the Steelers can get Fields relatively cheaply too. Market for him doesn’t seem to be what Bears hoped.
  22. Really enjoyed The Dynasty: New England Patriots. It’s really impressive how much they were able to achieve despite bucking the system and not hiring a coach for 20 years. I’m not a revieweR, but I defiinitely would recommend it the board’s science fiction fans.
  23. lol, that’s one opinion. Been quite a while since I’ve had this much of an urge to stay away from a movie. I’m not at all a horror fan, so to me, it just looks like ultraviolence for the sake of ultraviolence. And making the good guys look as much like sleazy tattooed weirdos as possible isn’t going to win me over either. I barely remember the original movie, so it was probably gratuitously violent too. But it had at least some sense of style, and Brandon Lee had star power. Also, the character design was fairly memorable, maybe even iconic. Ditching the white mime/kabuki face paint is the most head-scratching creative decision for me. anyway, kinda curious to see reviews, but probably won’t see the movie. Particularly if it’s a violent as the trailer makes the film out to be. I am mildly interested in seeing the original film again though, even though it’s probably too violent for my middle-aged self.
  24. I did not know that. Thanks. Probably both are true. SI failing to adapt to the times is the larger cause, but I’m mystified that a company in their position was willing to alienate readers and advertisers like that.
  25. Stumbled across this on Twitter and laughed hard. I’m assuming Vince is in no way involved in this or gave permission. Honestly, I have no idea why Twitter decided I’d want to see this ad. I think Tommy Chong is a gross dude and have no use whatsoever for the “edibles” crowd.
